I'm actually looking forward to the Lumineers, and I can't believe I'm saying that. Would I have preferred like, 50 other headliners? Yea. Still tho. Better than ID, MGK, PATD, FOB, etc
fall out boy has much more good songs than Lumineers
Absolutely. 'From Under the Cork Tree' alone trumps Lumineer's entire discography.

And let's be real... a good portion of the people that hate on The Lumineers either dislike them by name alone, hate that genre all together, and/or haven't even heard their stuff past the first album.

Personally, I love the genre, but heartfelt Americana should be inspired and come from the heart.

Just curious, what bands do you like from that same/similar genre?
Personally, I think Schlutz's writing is solid and comes from the heart no less than anyone else.

The Lumineers are an oscillating fan of mellow, meh folk music. Not awful, but just okay. Better in a seated, small venue. And I also dig the genre in general. FOB's later stuff is unlistenable (see:Uma Thurman). From Under a Cork Tree and Take This to Your Grave hit me in the pop-punk soft spot. Advantage: FOB.

It's not just the lyrics... It's the whole package. It's just boring. From what I understand Fraites writes most of the tunes with Schlutz being the lyric man, correct me if I'm wrong.
I love Big Thief, Pinegrove, Bright Eyes, Caamp, Mt Joy, Antlers, Fleet Foxes, Avett Bros, Neutral Milk, Mumford, Shakey Graves, Waxahatchee, Beck, Jason Isbell, boygenius and any of the trio's solo stuff... I love all types of Americana and Indie Folk, all different influences, etc... I just cannot connect with The Lumineers. It feels empty and shallow to me.

My issue with The Lumineers live is that Schultz seems to struggle with his voice. Maybe a combination of trying to oversing to a large crowd + mixing issues, but he seems to get washed out by the backup vocals and music. Just my take from seeing them previously. I know you didn't ask me, but Isbell, The Felice Brothers, Iron&Wine, Lucinda Williams, Ryan Bingham, and Tallest Man on Earth. Even Avett Brothers. Maybe I just like really loud and distinctive vocals.
I just hope everyone gives them a chance. Like this guy at Wrigley (Derek, are you lurking here? It's like I'm copy/pasting a summary of this discussion):
Never judge a book by its cover. Nor a band before seeing them perform live. This obviously does not apply to those bands who you love from the very moment you first hear one of their songs (I’m looking at you CAAMP), but some bands take a little longer to penetrate your soul. Such was the case for me with The Lumineers.
Shamefully, I dismissed The Lumineers ten years ago with their first single and massive top-five hit, “Ho Hey.” Their second single, and equally massive hit, “Stubborn Love,” did nothing to change my mind. Nor did their Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Americana Album. They were everywhere, but unfortunately my musical radar couldn’t pick up their transmission. I heard them, but I wasn’t listening.

Fair enough, to each their own. I really like most of those bands you mentioned as well. For me I just really like the Lumineers music, production, and arrangement. I'm not entirely sure how the writing works between Fraites and Schultz but I enjoy the end result. The 'III' album really hit home as someone who grew up in a addictive household and lots of their songs seem genuine enough for me.
But I will say they may run out of female names to title their songs one day.
I think we'll get an announcement for addditions soon. Snail Mail just posted their tour dates and it ends at Shaky.
She was on the initial announcement.
She was on it then they took her off like immediately. But now that Coachella has announced they can do additions. She might be the only one who knows.
Some good shows in ATL on the week of Shaky. Tuesday - Yaeji, Wednesday - 100 Gecs, Thursday - Destroyer (solo).
Destroyer was so good at Shaky Knees last year, strongly recommend.
Can't say I was familiar w Destroyer but I watched him last year and he seemed like he didn't want to be there, he was checking his phone WHILE PERFORMING. Mumbled through the rest of the show, it was a snooze fest. Did we see the same show?

I love his recorded output, but I had never seen him before. I thought it was very odd as well. He did seem very disinterested. But I wasn’t sure if that’s part of his act? Musically it was fine and I enjoyed it but he did not seem that particularly engaged. I do think he was underbilled and played a little too early. Maybe he was not happy about that?
