Super bummed Golden Features and Sherelle pulled out. Both were Top 5 for me. So I guess here's my revised list...

I’m playing at Incendia tomorrow at 9-10PM. I conflict with Earth Wind & Fire but stop by if you can. I’m also doing an ambient set on Sunday in the Bamboo Garden at 2:30PM.
Still trying to process paak showing up at the powow last night. You knew it was possible with the free nationals being the backing band but was still blown away when the riff for bubblin started playing and he made his entrance.
One of the best festival moments I’ve experienced.

Hope everyone had a good time! Def seeing more complaints than normal over security/ asshole attendees on reddit. Also sounds like there was a tragedy at the beach that was not handled well by Okee.
Yeah, someone drowned apparently, and the circumstances surrounding it are as absurd as they are tragic:
Yeah I don’t know about any of the other rumors about deaths this weekend, but my friends and I were in the lake when they pulled the guy’s body out of the water. There was a guy who was super drunk in the lake who kept yelling he was digging for clams then he came up screaming for help and pulled a body up. This was at around noon - 1, my sense of time wasn’t that great, but he had to have been in there all night. Absolutely tragic and I can’t believe they just let people keep swimming in there the rest of the fest after that
WELP year 6 is in the books and I wanna share my thoughts.
The music, production, and sound was excellent. It was the best out of every year I have been. The artists threw down new, wild sets and it was so fun to listen to from every angle. My faves:
ODESZA - holy shit. AMAZING. I cried probably like 7 times. They had maybe 4 or 5 vocalists from their songs as guests coming out to sing. They had their drum line. They had insane remixes. They had 4 fireworks displays?! I think it was 4. I lost count. They used SO MANY fireworks it was bananas. They are absolutely worth a headliner spot now. I love how far they've come.
Excision - I've seen him a few times and it's not everyone's cup of tea, I know. But he threw tf down and it was so much fun.
GRiZ - I haven't been a fan of his for a while but I caught the last 45 mins or so and it was wonderful. There were fireworks too, and he times some of them at the end to match with the music (cue tears) great job.
Earth Wind & Fire - They can still move and groove and sound awesome after so many years.
Big Boi - He played a bunch of old Outkast classics and I about near lost my mind. B.O.B., Ms. Jackson, I Like the Way You Move, etc. Lost my voice there lol
Lil Yachty - surprisingly good?! I wanted to hate it but I didn't know he had a new album and I really liked it. They band and background anyway. Vocals are still auto tuned mess lol but he also had trippy visuals which was cool
Tinlicker - nice vibe
Skream - good old school dubstep. Cut out a few times but I guess that's what happens when you mix live.
Tomayo - local band that sounded really good
Boogie T.rio - I like them better than Boogie T. and it was a nice vibe
Emotional Oranges - good vibe
BUT - there was a lotttt of fucked up stuff that happened which dampened the atmosphere.
Obviously everyone by this point has heard about the death/deaths. Someone drowned in the lake, that was confirmed. They pulled him out and didn't close the lake the next day. Which is... a health hazard?
Security was a joke. Barely checked my bag sometimes. It seems like they just let a bunch of people run around and do whatever on whatever substances and not care
SPEAKING OF getting hurt... a pole at Yogachobee tent one morning fell and broke some guy's leg. (I heard this info from a lady saying she was behind him.) Then there was another pole that fell so they told everyone to evacuate, and everyone ran screaming. I was GA+ so I was right next to Chobeewobee Village where it was and we heard the screaming and wondered what it was, so I think she was being honest.
And the reason it fell over was because of the wind. There were 40+ mph gusts on Friday and Saturday. So what did they do Friday? Delayed the Here stage for 4 or 5 hours. We don't know what they were doing bc they cautioned tape it off and had cranes but I'm assuming that was what they were doing. I asked security and they basically told me to stop asking them and go the fuck away. (Like I said, security sucked). I got ZERO notification on my app or anything that any set was canceled. Like seriously?
Also... it was 91 degrees all weekend with humidity... and NO SHADE. No shade tents at Aquachobee (they had it last year), barely any shade in the village... which may have been bc of the wind but you HAVE to give shade in Florida, that's just irresponsible.
On top of that, the prices are even more freaking ludicrous. $17 for a damn corona tall boy. $25 for a burrito. I already paid $600 for a ticket can you cut me some slack?
Set times were changed with no warning. I came to see Big Boi and it got switched with Earth Wind & Fire and I got no notification.
The bathrooms were TERRIBLE. Like so so so bad. They used to have attendants. In GA+ they have AC bathrooms with toilets and sinks etc. But they stopped checking wristbands after the first or second day I think, bc every time I went there there was nobody there, and it was flooded, shit everywhere, paper towels everywhere...
Someone in my group got their phone stolen and another one think there was a pick pocketing ring in the GA+ bathrooms.
It breaks my heart because this is my favorite festival, I'm close, I've been every year and I'm a loyal OG, but Jesus the logistics and organization (not the music) was kind of a shit show. I had an amazing time because I saw amazing music and hung out with my friends and we took care of each other. But damn this year was a serious downgrade. They need to get it together. There are rumors its not happening next year and I honestly wouldn't be surprised.
I think reading the Okee subreddit post-fest is genuinely giving me cancer. The amount of false info being spread and all the negative posts are astounding.
This year was not perfect, and Insomniac definitely deserves some flack for cutting corners. That said, I had nothing but positive interactions with all the people I encountered. The music was great and Paak showing up was something I’m never going to forget. Top 5 Saturday Shows:
1. Powow: Left Griz early for this and was a couple rows back from the rail. Show was fantastic even before Paak showed up. This is the absolute best of what a SJ type show can be. 2. Local Natives: One of the biggest reasons I went and they did not disappoint. Immaculate sunset vibes to kick off the night. 3. Night Tales (DJ Set at Grand Artique): Everything I look for in a LN DJ set. Mixes of songs that I love interwoven with their own vocals (Latch and Unholy were the highlights). They played their own stuff as well and the production was surprisingly good for such an intimate setting. 4. Tinlicker: Slightly regret not catching the full set as this was great but we were in the mood to hop around a bit during this set. Ended up catching 10 mins of Truevine’s set and some of BigBoi so I’m pretty content with the decision to leave Tinlicker early. 5. Truth: Had never heard of this artist before Saturday. One of my friends is big in the experimental base scene and he got us down to Aqua for the set and I’m glad he did. Cant even really describe their sound but it sucked us in and we ended up staying for almost the full set.
All in all, if this truly ends up being the last Okee I’m really happy I was able to attend 1 day as we went out on a high note. I’d be pretty shocked if it’s back next year especially with all the backlash but I have some hope they will take a year off and be back in 2025. Insomniac is backed by a billionaire so you would think they would be okay with some losses to keep this alive.
Does anybody have info on the powwow Setlist? I searched on Sunday and couldn’t find anything. Besides Paak doing bubbling. Still super jelly of the powwow before Paak Man came out!
