Why do you enjoy routinely embarrassing yourself like this? lol Like I’ve never seen this level of being unable to accept taking an L in my life. You have been wrong about Paramore every time you talk about them.
Are you literally claiming that more people know Misery Business than know Dog Days or Mr. Brightside? Seriously?
You're the one who's wrong on that point.
Those songs may be bigger but Paramore has a more rabid fanbase and more people genuinely excited to see them live on this tour vs the recent Florence & Killers arena tours.

Florence show in Boston sold out and she was awesome but the demand isnt gonna be there that soon after her arena show. i also think less people would buy fest tix specifically for her. whereas paramore hasnt toured in half a decade, ofc theyre gonna sell a ton of tix
Longtime lurker, finally decided to sign up to chime in on the discussion. Primarily to say:
I'm 24, and I may only know a few Paramore songs, but I have never heard a Metallica song in my life, so by that measure they shouldn't have headlined.
And while I love Fred Again I highly doubt he's popular enough in Boston to close a red or even blue (even though his show deserves a nighttime slot). I could see Jamie XX or maybe Justice in the electronic spot that closes red, both of which would get me there cause I was planning to see both this year but my plans fell through for each of them.

welcome to the board! Jamie xx or Justice as a red or blue closer would be amazing. I do think Fred again.. has the popularity though, he sold out roadrunner which is 3500cap, same venue Chvrches, a past Blue closer, played this year as well. If not closing blue, could definitely see him second to last on red or 2nd to last on green

That may be true, but the sweet spot for a multi-genre festival, especially one in a big city which is trying to attract locals, is the combination of a rabid fanbase and casual appreciation among many people. Paramore has the former, but not the latter (Maybe they do among people under 30, as someone posted here recently, but Boston Calling attracts a very wide range of ages.) I'll concede that after playing the Garden this fall, Florence might not be the best imaginable top line booking at Boston Calling in 2023, but The Killers have so many hits that people know. They could play the Garden, Xfinity Center, or Boston Calling ever year and they'll still draw.

Paramore's first album come out 17 years ago, so they have appeal for the over 30 crowd as well. I am indifferent to the band, but this is a wild hill to die on. They are easily big enough to headline this fest.
Pearl Jam Bring Me The Horizon - WILLOW - Fred Again..
Lizzo My Morning Jacket - Steve Lacy - Big Thief
Paramore Death Cab For Cutie - King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Yeat
Could See this just replace Lizzo with Strokes and move some acts around
Pearl Jam Fred Again - Death Cab For Cutie - Big Thief
Strokes Yeat - King Gizzard - Steve Lacy
Paramore Bring Me The Horizon - My Morning Jacket - Willow
I could definitely live with this, especially if MMJ closed Blue and got more than the usual 75 minutes, maybe overlapping with Paramore's set for 30-60 minutes.

Thanks!! Trying to expand my posting communities now that Twitter is looking to become even more of a misery pile than it was before Now that you mention CHVRCHES I do think that Fred closing blue could be possible, especially with a hard genre contrast with whoever is headlining green (i.e. a classic rock act). I guess I'm just used to thinking of Boston as at best uninterested in and at worst hostile to dance music, though that seems to be getting better with more acts coming to Roadrunner and also smaller venues like Middlesex Lounge and INFRA/The Lower Level. Fred did sell out several nights at T5 in NYC too so that counts for something, even in a city that likes dance music more than Boston. Would love to see a straight run of house or dance acts on blue ending with Fred Again one day of the next BC
half buttrock, half pop, why wouldn't they? It's not like it's gonna be billed as a Count Your Blessings album play
Fair, doesn't seem like an act that would be booked before but I need to get it in my head that the current BC is/can be pretty different from everything before 2019. BC booking more buttrock makes sense considering it is Boston.

Yes, no festival wants to attract that undesirable 34-and-under demographic.
Even if you’re right about the age limit of their fanbase, which you’re not, they’d still be a strong booking.

Small dick energy putting the goal posts where bands they dont like cant ever feasibly perform anywhere without approval.
Yes Florence was bigger than Paramore at one point, I don’t think anyone would disagree with that, but it’s pretty clear that Paramore is more relevant right now
So, exactly how and when did they get big? Throughout the last decade, they've been playing 3,500 seat venues in Boston and closed Blue in 2018, and acts that close Blue or Red usually headline at those sized venues.
They didn't have a Kate Bush moment in a wildly popular TV series or movie, no acting/showrunning crossover like Donald Glover, HW hasn't judged a reality singing competition on U.S. TV, nobody in the band dated Pete Davidson or beefed with Kanye, and if they haven't released an album since 2017 or 2018, it's not like they've been racking up new hits lately.
The younger siblings and nieces and nephews of Paramore fans since the beginning are listening to Billie Eilish and other pop artists now, and their older siblings and parents are listening pre-2000 indie rock, jam bands, Americana, or whatever they enjoyed when they were young
Avril Lavigne had much more ubiquitous hits than Paramore, and she closed Blue this year. Paramore may have done very well this year headlining at two mostly punk pop emo festivals, but you wouldn't necessarily take whomever's headlining Newport Folk, Rolling Loud, or Electric Daisy Carnival and book them to headline Boston Calling, either
You know who'd be a better choice to headline than Paramore and is even more relevant and a bigger draw right now? Olivia Rodrigo. She manages to bring rock and pop together in a way that sounds much fresher than stereotypical punk pop emo and her fanbase is as rabid as it gets.

I pretty much hate Metallica but I acknowledge it as a brilliant booking under the circumstances, because they combine that huge, rabid fanbase (as in "headlined at Gillette Stadium" big) with a lot of casual appreciation. "Enter Sandman" was huge and "One"was all over MTV in its day.
So, it's not like I'm setting the goal posts based primarily upon my own tastes. Like everybody else, I want to see artists I personally enjoy in the lineup, but this is basically like an NFL mock draft. You figure out what will work best in a given market at a particular time, and you make your case as to why a particular football player or musical artist should be picked in a particular round or be placed at a particular spot on the post.
Paramore's nothing more than just another Baker Mayfield. Highly touted before the draft, but you'll wind up wishing that you picked someone else.

I wonder who Olivia Rodrigo is influenced by...oh. Huh. And I'd be willing to wager that she just doesn't wanna play festivals at this point.
And jesus fucking christ spend 15 minutes on Tiktok and you'll run into *somebody* talking about Paramore. They have a longevity that a lot of other pop punk acts lack.

They played dcu center in 2013 and sold it out. You have no idea what you're talking about
