i love paramore and would love for them to headline. I am excited at the prospect of them being a #4 solely because that means we get 1 more headliner than previously thought
Spoon is touring Europe with Black Keys in June 2023. They have a festival appearance in North Carolina in late April. It will be over a year following their House of Blues show, so I’m really hoping they’re in play for Boston Calling. We were all set to see them in NYC but COVID paid our household a visit instead…
I think we can expect some of the names that we thought were possible here to play The Stage at Suffolk Downs instead. Billy Strings, Flaming Lips (especially if they're doing an album show), maybe even the Strokes lmao

the strokes are definitely in for BC but yeah this venue's gonna take out a lot of the "likely" list

Maybe I missed it, but why are we positive that The Strokes are a definite?

agreed, this is what i meant with my earlier comment. (that being said, i think both new Paramore singles STINK.)

That same thought just occurred to me. We've been assuming that so many acts that are skipping Boston on recently announced tours must be playing Boston Calling. But they couldn't have announced their Stage date before the venue itself had been announced.
I don't know if The Flaming Lips would play an 8,500 capacity venue, but basically anyone who'd do two nights at HoB/Music Hall/Roadrunner or a single Agganis show is right at that level.
The most interesting thing about the venue is that since it's the racetrack infield and general admission, the space could totally have a festival vibe. We'll probably have a stage at one end of an open field, just like we do at festivals. One of the articles made a point of noting that the venue is contained within the infield, so I'm assuming that the grandstand won't be used. I wonder if they'll set up portable bleachers on the sides. If the grandstand is off-limits, I'm betting on porta-potties which absolutely seals the festival vibe.

They probably wouldn't have announced the venue's opening if they weren't ready to drop some of the early acts playing there next Spring, so we're likely to be able to cross more artists off as possibilities as Stage shows are announced long before BC's traditional late January lineup drop. I'm expecting the first few Stage show announcements next week.
I wouldn't expect much overlap with Summer Camp Festival, but if they wanted to toss in a jam band or two, they're probably on this poster. Given the long history of overlap with BottleRock and Sasquatch, a lot of bands could be equally or more willing to fly halfway across the country if coast-to-coast is no big deal for some.
