Night before the fest, seems like the grounds are set and weather is looking prime, what makes this weekend a win for you guys?
I’m hopeful that the Red Stage sound design is a bit better this year and that they are still using the same easy breeze through scanners for entry. Also hope the merch line is better (or just that nothing interest me enough to wait).
I expect the Lumineers to be somewhat underwhelming (or just generally low energy) but I do think there are a few other sets that could surprise and deliver across the weekend and make the fest an overall win. Will be interesting to see how crowded Saturday ends up being and where the crowds end up.

With the weather looking perfect, all i really need for this to be a big win is for the sound issues that hurt the Red Stage last year to be resolved. Felt like outside of Rufus, the sounds was really low there all weekend, though maybe that's because i was much closer to the front for Rufus and it was just turned down too low so standing comfortably in the back kinda sucked.
Outside of that, would be nice if cell service was better later into the night as the place fills up. It's always so hard to find friends in big crowds in the dark, and phones basically never work past like 8pm.

it was really fun being between in the crowd between green and red and just straight up not being able to hear the red stage at all. Rufus kinda figured it out and RTJ got a bit better as it went on but man, it totally ruined a couple sets I had a bit of interest in
i hope theres some decent experience stuff happening during the day. friday i’ll be exploring most of the day bc my schedule is empty aside from beaches, national, YYYs and foos
Red stage has bad sound every year it seems, was it worse last year than 17/18/19?
I think Cheap Trick, Rufus, RTJ were the only ones I saw last year and it was definitely quiet, although Rufus wasn’t that bad. I don’t recall it being that noticeable in the past years, like for Bon Iver, RTJ Lord Huron, Odesza. It may have never been amazing but seemed particularly off last year
I've wondered if maybe something about the way the Red Stage speakers face impacts the surrounding neighborhood more and they're required to keep it quieter... it's really the only reason i can think of that they'd have this issue year after year, but even that doesn't really make sense, given the actual placement of the stage. I just hope it's better.

Everything on the Green Stage is also amplified through the secondary PA speakers hanging on poles where most of the food and sponsor booths begin, which has always made it easy to catch Green performers at a distance and have decent sound, if not great sight lines. They should really configure the audio so that the Red Stage audio is sent to those secondary PA speakers, as well. After all, the stages trade off so that there would never be an issue of multiple audio feeds both needing to access the secondary PA at the same time.

Except for catching a few local bands playing in parks in 2021, Cheap Trick was my first live music since the pandemic began, and I was so disappointed with the sound quality. Not an all-time favorite of mine, but a band I always liked and had seen a few times over the years. That sound mix made the set so disappointing for me, and I wound up walking off midway through and heading over to the Blue stage.

well that sucks. i guess the silver lining is that The National gets bumped up to the better time slot though (and gets 90min now). but makes me a bit more anxious about the red stage sound issues
I was curious about catching Niall Horan (i.e. Harry Styles-lite), but The National now getting 90 minutes is a big plus. While I wouldn't pay to see the Dropkicks headline, it'll be fun seeing them in this setting.
Of course, the Red sound issues just got a lot more important (for me, anyway).
A few people here gave me grief when I suggested that having some notable locally (and regionally) based musicians opened the door to finding replacement acts quickly, due to dropouts from Covid or other reasons, but that's exactly what happened here.

J.F.C.- that was my most anticipated act tomorrow. An extra 30” of The National is at least some consolation… On a funny related note, at Shaky Knees I passed on YYY’s in a conflict, because we were booked to see them in Boston. I’m 0 for 2, again reminded to take nothing for granted these days!
