Why not just call it a Crosby tribute set? The misdirection was necessary last year because the artists getting tribute were going to be part of the set.
Not to mention, Joni was part of “Brandi and Friends” and Paul Simon with “American Song Revue presented by Nathaniel Rateliff”
yeah i don't think its a Crosby set - though I could easily see Isbell pre-headlining and then coming back out for one after
my stupid brain is still holding out hope that with Graham and Nash both active this year, and with Neil Young finally deciding to play shows again, we get all three for a Crosby thing but that's probably too much to ask
And I'll add Roger McGuinn. He's been playing 28 song sets as recently as March 28th.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

I don't see how it's not Goose -> Isbell as pre-headlining/headlining the Fort.

It was American Tune Revue which I immediately knew was a set of Paul Simon covers at least coming.
"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!
I know that it will by the end of announcements, but it’s going to take two solid weeks of announcements for Newport to take the lineup throne from Beach Road.
When I look at it, I go it might be nice to visit Newport Folk 2018 again.

1) This is a headlining performance to play new material from “Weathervanes.” Similar to his 2018 headlining slot. Could include some special guests a nod to Croz. 2) Jason Isbell is not the headliner and has more of an Avett Brothers/Ryan Adams slot having previously headlined. Another set could be after such as a Croz tribute or a totally different performer. 3) This is the Croz tribute akin to Brandi Carlile being announced last year, and it’ll be a surprise day-of.

The easy answer is “because I don’t want it to be that”
MMJ are booked on Sunday now in NC - so if that’s happening it would have to be Friday and ALSO be a late add since they were already booked for Floyd…

they were booked for Sunday at Floyd though, so they could have been booked for Friday at NFF all along
still don't think it's happening, though. if they hadn't added that DC date on Saturday i'd give it more of a chance, but Newport > DC > NC back to back to back seems a bit much

Was MMJ announced for Friday at Floyd? Couldn't the Sunday date in NC be a replacement for the cancelled Floyd show?

yep. when i was at two step inn a few weeks ago there was a guy in the press lounge with me that was talking about how amazing she is and how most of her music is pretty heartbreaking because it's about her trying to help Tyler get his shit together. need to find his interview but he said that she told him after it got published that he was the only writer that didn't just continually try to talk about Tyler and how that's his wife.
They’re going all in on Newport Country Fest this year. Especially if Tyler Childers did make the final lineup, but even if not.
I do like Black Opry though and it’s one of the sets I most regretted missing last year. I wouldn’t even mind seeing it in a headliner spot with the right curation.
