MMJ/Isbell/LDR is a very fine trio, especially if that Isbell set is actually some sort of Crosby tribute with cool guests. If it's just a Jason Isbell set then its much less enjoyable.
I just don't know where they'd fit him. Seems a bit too big to pre-headline.
Jason > Tyler (Headline)
Maybe. Gotta slot Goose in there too, and they're too big for a Quad closer at this point, I pegged them for a preheadliner.
I also think there's some legs to the whole "isbell hosted Crosby tribute" thing. There is a pattern of Saturday nights having that kinda show over the last few years, and I didn't realize how close Isbell/Crosby were, nor that Crosby's last performance was with Isbell. Given Crosby's footprint in this genre, I'd be stunned if they didn't have something in his honor, and Isbell seems like a logical candidate.
Her tour routing is still weird. She's in Oregon a week before the fest, then plays Colorado 7/30. Odd for her to go all the way back across the country for one gig at NFF, then back out west a day later. But yeah if she's playing its gotta be Friday.

I mean you've said several times MMJ wont play because of their tour routing so we will take your analysis with a grain of salt

interesting though that they've got 4 more acts to announce, but it seems like the headliners are all out there. would be very weird if they wrapped up announcements with Molly Tuttle and Son Volt or whoever

You heard it here first: MMJ, Isbell, and Lana are all actually sub-headliners.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

Yeah I get that LDR is super popular and all, but I almost feel like the fest would have to hint at there being a surprise to that set to keep folks around through that set if it headlined.

MMJ opens for Bon Iver, Isbell opens for Neil Young, Lana opens for Taylor Swift

He also said that LDR would never play. I’d take anything Larry says with a grain of salt.

honestly i'd love to see it, the backlash would be immense
Unfortunately, he’s booked all three days, but that would be awesome
i was being ironic, i'd rather not have this festival rightfully pilloried for booking a known abuser (among whose accused number two women who have previously played the fest)
