No. It’s a show. A fun loose show. Probably 7-8:30. Basically a band playing by the water at a fancy bar ….but the band is DeerTick with Robert Elis and Phil Cooke. They might be staying there.
It’s not part of the fest. Its the outdoor bar at what was Gurneys, the hotel on Goat Island
It’s a great location. Right on the water and beautiful view of the bridge.
I'm assuming sort of a practice run/rehearsal type set but I know nothing more than what's been posted here.
I guess I’m asking more of, is the pineapple club on the grounds of the folk fest? The start time of 7 is weird being that that fest doesn’t end at 7. And on their events page, it lists NFF. Almost implying it’s part of the fest
Oh, my mistake. For some reason I was thinkin 28th was Thursday.

Yes. I think the Pineapple club closes around 8:30-9 If you had a really fast bike, you might catch the end of the set. Im not a Big MMJ fan, so this is easy for me.
Just got a press release for Illterate Light’s bike stage lineup. What a lineup!
Illiterate Light The Ballroom Thieves Caiola Al Olender Joshua Ray Walker Palmyra Odie Leigh Bendigo Fletcher Ian Ferguson Raye Zaragoza Sir Woman Valerie June (“For Pete’s Sake”) Erin Rae (“For Pete’s Sake”) JP Harris (“For Pete’s Sake”)
Just saw that the "For Pete's Sake" ones are from 10:20-11:00 each morning. That's fun. Given how many people enter right as gates open, I always thought there could be a little more for the sickos during that time.
Any idea what’s going into the 1:50 fort stage slot on friday? I’m assuming that’s from someone dropping out but they’ll obviously try to get someone decent if it’s fort stage
I figure it can’t just be a straight Billy Strings set. Jay has done wonderful things with this final Sunday set. Am guessing Hilly will have some amazing guest join him. Could be a Doc Watson or Warl Scruggs tribute as has been suggested here. I think it is more likely to be one of Jay’s white whales joining him on stage.
There was an interview back in 2015 where Jay listed a bunch of people he would love to have play Newport someday which included Beck and Paul Simon among many other luminaries. One name from that list that Billy covers regularly and met in the past year is Eddie Vedder. No reason to think it would be him, in particular, but could see someone of that caliber joining him for a surprise. www.reddit.com/r/BillyStrings/comments/xtvtgv/billy_meets_eddie_vedder/
Ok - finally in for 3 day pass for this thing. What an ordeal.
So happy! Was feeling like it was a huge disservice to not have you there. Was seriously questioning if our tickets came through whether we should give them to our kids or to you.

Ha! Appreciate the sentiment. But nobody will miss out this year. Did you end up squaring up for the whole weekend?

Good enough. Would like to get a pair of Saturday tickets so the kids can join but they will make it Sunday. They will be ok either way. Their first fest and my 15 year old son, in particular, has really fallen for Willi Carlisle, Goose and The Backseat Lovers so would love for him to be there. It will be nice to share this with them in a way that they appreciate.

Weir or Billy K should also be a possibility.
Remember someone said Molly Tuttle said she'd be at Newport. Her combined with at least the Earls of Leicester lead me to believe it will be more traditional bluegrass leaning than Eddie or Bobby.

I get it. But I can’t see Newport closing out on Sunday with a Bluegrass Bonanza…. Too niche even for Newport.
That being said Billy Strings is the best there’s ever been…. Wait a minute. Are we going to have the Charlie Daniels Band?

Gotta keep in mind. Billy is booked all weekend, so there isn’t gonna be a lotta time for practicing for some one off set. So that points to a comfortable set in my opinion.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

But he’s also the same guy that did an entire Doc Watson set because they got to their trailer and there was a photo of him on the wall.
