Energy in the NBC is really high. Way way more packed than last night. They set up their own mixer and sound equipment in the corner so less room. Lots of recording equipment and a full band set up ready to go. No opener. This might be a good one!

Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
Madison Cunningham, Abraham Alexander, Nickel Creek, bassist from Lake Street Dive (I believe), Jim James, Sarah Jarosz, Bella White and band, Carn, Danny Clench (?), Jeremy Kittle, and Joe F on kit (didn't catch the last name)
Piano recital was very good but pretty sleepy considering many there baked in the sun all day. Some of the guests were:
Holly Bowling Phil Cook Elijah Wolf Craig Finn Nicole Atkins Madison Cunningham Peter Anspach from Goose Franz Nicolay Johanna Samuels Joshua Harmon (the backseat lovers)
It wasn’t even that hot today unless you were one of the myriad people who attend this fest who seem like they’ve never been outside before.
I’m from the heat; I’m used to it being hot. That said, today was very hot at Newport. The humidity was up there and the sun was relentless. The only saving grace was the breeze and the few shady spots that weren’t covered by blankets. But definitely one of the hottest days I’ve spent at a festival.
That was the best aftershow Newport has event had! Incredible!
Not lying. One of my favorite live music experiences in a long time.
Also, I've seen 40+ Jacket shows- today was really, really, good. That Steam opener followed by this new-ish version of Amazed they are doing was a great 25 minutes of music.

James Taylor into MMJ into fenagling my way into the best Tyler Childers show I’ve seen by a mile, has me on cloud 9. Absolutely stellar first day ever at Newport. I could only make it for one day, but I feel fulfilled. The muppets at not only MMJ, but also Tyler’s after show made me so happy. I’m starting to wonder if maybe they are an “artist at large” sort of thing this year” we will see if they continue throughout the weekend or just happened to be two sets in one night.
The Tyler situation was bananas. Tons of people outside trying to get in spilling out into the streets. People haggling with the door guy left and right, trying to bribe. Girls standing in all the windows outside watching the show and cracking the windows to hear better. Bar tenders abandoning their post to get videos, everyone singing Along. It was a fucking killer time. The energy in there was unreal

Of my 29 shows, I think it’s a top 5 for me. I absolutely loved it
When I got back last night, I was on cloud nine reading about the show etc., and realized that all day Childers has been getting crushed for his new video by right-wing Aldean weirdos. He played this last night:
By the way, from the looks of all the people gathered around outside the Blues Cafe last night, they aren’t sneaking anyone in anymore.
I think you're right, but at the end during Follow Me to Virgie > Lady May, three young window girls found their way in and made a mild scene rushing through the crowd to get a spot for Lady May. Not sure how they managed it. At that point it was kind of endearing.

Looks like the storm last night did a number on the Fort, but no schedule changes as of now. Forecast looks okay through most of the day- Batiste set might be in trouble though.
...but selfishly, I really just want this Hold Steady set to happen.
Jacket and Childers were so good it made it a top NFF day for me ever on those sets alone. Othwerwise, Mdou Moctar blew me away, Caamp was fine, Heavy Heavy was fun.
Maggie Rogers was a surprise. I don't know her well, but she should have closed with the song she did 2nd to last- that was great.
Logistics: This fest can be so frustrating. If you are going to have seats in the Quad/Harbor (which I hate, but am in the minority), then you have to have dedicated GA standing space. It doesn't need to be in the front, but it needs to be all around the seats. The fact that people can put blankets on the far side of the Quad right next to the seats under the tent is outrageous. I can't deal with the seat nonsense- feels like flying Southwest. I think this is the only festival in the world where it's easier to get a good spot at the main stage than the side stages. /rant
I like the Harbor Stage changes. Curious to see what it will look with a big artist there.
Fix the fucking lines to get in on Friday! Every year.
I'll also take an end to the beer prisons, but I don't think I'm winning that one.

Still love this place!
In that case I’d have no problem standing on the blankets. If they don’t give a fuck about human decency, why should I?
Sounds like some epic stuff last night, but the best thing I will see all weekend was the Robert Ellis/Phil Cook/Beau Bedford show at the Pineapple Club. They played 3 hours. Best secret show at Newport every year. And it's free. We danced with Trent Crimm from Ted Lasso. So. Much. Fun. Do not miss this set on Sunday

1000% agree. I wish I was more excited for Bartees today because he rules but I actively dislike going to anything not main stage because you can’t get a decent spot.
And especially in the quad, why can’t the beer garden be closer to the stage, down that left side? You can barely hear back there. Drives me nuts.

They definitely are not. The door guy bragged to the people trying to get in last night that he wouldn’t let anyone in for the happiness show and that was significantly less crowded than Childers was
