all of the best "funk" artists could also be described as "soul" artists, but the inverse is not true
it's time for funk to go
Parliament? That's just soul, baby!
even if you wanted to argue that Parliament doesn't qualify as soul (and wikipedia includes them in progressive soul so we'll take them), it's a sacrifice i'd be willing to make

Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
I don't care whether a genre is currently relevant if I can still listen to the great music in it from back when that still exists. I think this line of argument basically just exists to protect hyperpop.

True. That's why Dre called it G-Soul.
if i was going to keep an entire genre in on the basis of just a couple acts, i'd be riding for jam to the end.
If the artists are James Brown, Prince and P-Funk, I think it's worth it. Certainly better than Phish and Dead.
Prince might have played some funk, but he was not a "funk" act, come the fuck on.
And James Brown's nickname was literally "the Godfather of Soul"
Lol Prince being a Funk act is a lot less goofy than saying P-Funk were "progressive soul". And yeah, James Brown was called that before he invented Funk. His best stuff is funk.

at best, you're listing acts who could fall into either category. P-Funk (possibly) aside, i've yet to see you name an artist that can only be described as a "funk" act that is in anyway essential.

Almost no act is going to fit entirely neatly within one genre, especially with your outlook that nothing is funk and everything is actually just soul.

plenty of acts fit in one genre (excluding parent genres of course, i.e. punk is also "rock", soul is also "R&B")
