Prince might have played some funk, but he was not a "funk" act, come the fuck on.
And James Brown's nickname was literally "the Godfather of Soul"
Lol Prince being a Funk act is a lot less goofy than saying P-Funk were "progressive soul". And yeah, James Brown was called that before he invented Funk. His best stuff is funk.
I’ve been on hyperpop but I didn’t expect jam to be in the picture. I’m pretty sure I enjoy Charli more than any jam bands.
there are fewer hyperpop acts i like but hyperpop also doesn't have to answer for the crimes of moe. and the disco biscuits and twiddle and (shudder) string cheese incident and so on
-pitched and sped up vocals ✅ -weird industrial pop songs ✅ -use of classic styles and sounds that border homage and satire ✅ -dumb fashion ✅ -stupid fonts ✅
In hindsight, pop should absorb hyperpop… alternative should absorb grunge… r&b should absorb soul and funk… indie is too vague (indie rock? Indie pop?)… and I am now trying to decide if Metallica is metal or classic rock at this point.

Inb4 "they're not named Classicrockica."
Sabbath are a more interesting case study for that imo. Still would consider them metal.

I think early Metallica might be metal and late Metallica might be classic rock. Good point on Black Sabbath. I would say metal but I am often wrong.
