This message board is based around a music festival that regularly books numerous artists who play those genres of music. People here listen to waymore funk and R&B than classical. Breathtakingly dumb argument.
But I’ll make you a deal, the five people who have posted in the classical thread don’t have to vote for it.
Lol no.
edit: also how would you even know? It's not like people here brag about that they listen to Parliament Funkadelic, Sly & The Family Stone or artists like Michael Jackson, Janelle Monae, old Beyoncé, Janet and Aaliyah music etc.
I know I was just answering the question of what would be played on Jan 6th whilst also sharing this fine piece of cinema, that I will some day write a dissertation about.

I'm on classical. It's a good genre and I listen to it every so often, especially new modern classical releases, but yeah it's probably it's time to go.
to be clear, Bing your assertion that inforoo is more of a classical music message board than a funk/r&b/soul message board is wildly incorrect.
Wrong. I said there's probably a lot of people that don't care about the genres mentioned above, yet they're still here (see previous page). Meatball Sub changed it to 'listening more to than'.

One other thing on this - Phish is your favorite band. Folk is part of what Phish is.
is it though? i don't think of phish as being folk at all.
Sure it is. I'm not saying they're folk per se - just that it's part of what they are and their live shows. They're lots of stuff - jazz, progressive, classical, rock, blues, country influences. But what's also at the core? Trey is up there telling a story strumming (or tuning), that's what you expect from folk. It's not just music or politics or protest. It's the intimate connecting of musician and fan - often acoustic or electrical-acoustic - and often with the fan singing or harmonizing with the musician. It goes way deeper, but the major point is that Folk is a strong influence on them (or at least Trey).

You make a good point and I buy that, changing my vote. But it's hard to choose where to switch my vote to. Going to have to be classical I think. I thought about soul since it's a subset of r&b so r&b covers it but I don't think it's time yet. and even though i've nitpicked the definition of alternative, so much of the music i actively listen to falls broadly under that "early alternative" umbrella.
If anyone else wants to connect any other genres to my favorite band so I change my vote feel free.
I made an attempt at what I listen to least to most.
Dubstep Classical Ambient House Techno Disco Trap Reggaeton Jamband Funk Reggae Jazz Blues Buttrock Hardcore Punk Bluegrass Country R&B Psych Hyperpop Pop Soul Hip Hop Metal Grunge Classic Rock Alternative Folk Indie

i love the idea of janelle monae more than i actually love janelle monae. i even saw her live, opening for goddamn Prince, and had a great time, but whenever i try to listen to janelle monae my mind drifts.

Ya I agree, which is why I take notice when everyone around here raves about her. Don’t really get it. Except Tightrope.

Cool story, bros: I've seen Janelle Monae twice. The first time was a 2014 festival set while touring The Electric Lady, and it was fantastic.
The second time was her own show, after Dirty Computer came out. It was mostly great, but about 2/3 of the way through, she took a break from performing her own music to do a, like, 15-minute DJ set, and...Janelle Monae was a really bad DJ, you guys. Maybe she was new to it at the time, but the transitions were rough, there were technical issues she had no way to compensate for...it was like watching someone practice in their bedroom, except in front of a few thousand people. Thankfully, it was mercifully brief and she finished out the show strong, but I remain perplexed by that as a performance choice to this day.

It probably makes more sense for someone that loves Lauryn Hill, Mary J Blige, Erykah Badu like I do.
Tonight were takin' my fast car. And we're going to go down to the cowboy bar. I'm going to wait til the club is full. And I'm going to ride the mechanical bull. Cowboy look is the one I sought, can't change now cause the clothes are bought. To be a true cowboy was my fate, I can't help it if I's born late. And all the cowgirls with their stetson hats. And their tight fitting jeans so they don't look fat. We'll all be listening to cowboy tunes. And stomp around like a bunch of goons. We're all OD'd on the olden west and seeing whose cowboy clothes look the best. I can ride that phony bull so damn good. Sometimes I think I'm Clint Eastwood.
I know I'm a cowboy deep inside. My hat's made out of synthetic rattlesnake hide. After a couple shit-kicking cowboy movies, we'll check out the cowboy scene down at Zubie's. To find out who all fights the best, we start fights with those punks from the Cuckoo's Nest. Those damn punks are crazy though, and meaner than a bull in a rodeo. You call me an urban clone of course. Well big deal if I'm afraid to ride a horse. With a broken nose and a fucked up knee, aw maybe this cowboy scene just ain't for me (I couldn't make it as a punker).
Nothing in my recollection is or was as bad as the phoniness of Urban Cowboy Country. It was fad and fashion coming out of a movie. Some could argue that's similar to disco, but I'd argue that disco was a thing before Saturday Night Fever. Country was too, but not the phony let's dress up in cowboy costumers and go to a bar downtown in a metropolis outside of the SW. It was a terrible scene of followers and partly led to the rise of Kicker/Shit Kicker which is a particularly vile form of country. When something make the Disco scene look good in comparison, it has to suck at historical levels. It did.
