Lol. I don’t even know 20 Country songs off the top of my head but I might be able to work through it. I used to hate it but have come around on some of the alt-country live with Brandi and Kacey both making Top 2 and Top 7 at 2019 festivals. Johnny Cash Rusty Cage. There’s one song.
Hilarious how much you've dogged the genre in these threads and come to find out you don't know anything about it.
Throwing out a bone for funk and soul. Super Fly with the right jab in the jaw
For the youngs, that’s 1972 and the title song for the soundtrack to the movie Super Fly. It’s about a drug dealer trying to get out the game. I need to watch it again and recommend anyone see it. It should be easy enough to find if you got some time down the road.
deto and DMS probably forgot more historical shit about the genre than I know. I just have my experience. There was controversy around the whole genre of blaxploitation. I respect the valid and fair criticism of some of the older black civic leaders at the time who didn’t want to see some of the character portrayals, etc. Meanwhile I’m 8-12 years old in black school in a poor section of town. My mom and dad banned us from anything not rated G. All my friends at school got to see those movies and would talk about them to where I knew many of the plots and characters. Hell, Shaft would become one my movie character heroes once I was a teenager and finally got to see him on late Friday night TV movies. I knew the music. I’m coming at it from more of a kid at the time appreciation for the culture and superhero black characters from that era that I only heard about for so many years having to live vicariously through the stories of my school friends.
I saw the Superfly remake in theaters. The soundtrack was uh, less good
I rarely ever go to movies anymore, so I don’t even know about the remake. OG had 93% on rotten tomatoes whereas remake had 51%. I don’t know the new soundtrack, so I’ll take your word on it. I’ve seen and liked a few of the people on it. But give me Curtis Mayfield.

Post had some tongue in cheek. You could probably guess that I know some of the music from the past besides a Soundgarden cover. Nashville, Outlaw, local, etc. I don’t know much of the 80’s-00’s because I didn’t like what I heard or what I was exposed to. Before and since, I’m not really hating all that much. Hypertakes are survivor.

Wild Up is doing a series where they're recording and releasing some of Julius Eastman's work. The one that came out this year was kinda boring but the one last year, Julius Eastman Vol. 1: Femenine, is really good and one of my favorite releases from last year. All you classical heads should listen to it.
