I just want to highlight how I predicted a couple weeks ago that it would probably be entertaining to see a World Cup final featuring two of the tournament’s greatest players squaring off. Stay tuned for more hot takes de futbol.

Haven’t enjoyed a World Cup this much since 2002. Cherry on top with that final!
The best moment for me over the course of the whole tournament was when I saw an interview with a kid that played the game and he said that he played soccer/football because it was the World’s game and not just America’s game (paraphrasing). One of those moments that transcends sport, may the beautiful game bring more interconnectedness…
We'll talk about Mbappe like that when he moves to a real club and does something in a real league.
Holding the guy to account for being from a country with a decent enough league to actually keep him.
Also.. isn't Messi on PSG?
Messi won 4 UEFA champions league titles and 10 La Liga titles at Barcelona. That's much more impressive than what Mbabbe is doing or will ever do if he stays at PSG.

He probably will eventually move on from PSG. He is 23 years old.
Messi also played with some really great players let's not act like he carried Barcelona all by himself.
I think the point is more about the competition than the team he's on. also PSG keeping Mbappe has nothing to do with the French league being good, they kept him because they're owned by Qatar and basically printing money for him.

Mbappe won the WC as the best player on France when he was 19 so yeah. I totally am on-board with Messi GOAT but I think the idea that Mbappe never could equal him is weird. Put Mbappe on a team with Ronaldinho, Eto'o/Zlatan and the Barca D they had back then and he's probably gonna win some La Ligas.

put 19 year old messi on a team with Kante, Griezzman, Pogba, Varane, Umtiti, Lloris and he might have more world cups too. Messi is the best scorer, best dribbler and best playmaker/passer/assister in the history of the game. Mbappe is already an all time great but he's not gonna equal messi.
Messi also played with some really great players let's not act like he carried Barcelona all by himself.
But the thing is Messi was so good that he still did what he did with all that talent around him. If his numbers dipped because of player x and y being signed on and such then thats something to argue over. But it didnt matter who was around him, he was still better.

Of course Mbappe could equal him - if he leaves PSG, which is what I originally said. Will never be his equal staying at PSG. And yes, he will probably leave...but he has a golden chances just this past summer and chose to spurn Madrid. I think it's fair to have a sliver of doubt whether he will leave.

It's also funny people are always like "Messi has no one around him" when Di María earned both first half goals and that clearly wasn't a flash in the pan, he is also a great player (even though he played so long for PSG 😔).

Argentina's team hasn't been that good until recently and they won the Copa and World Cup, I don't think people are saying he doesn't have help now. If Di Maria didn't get hurt before the final in 2014 they might just have won that too, but looking back at Germany's roster compared to Argentina in that final is insane. Germany had world class players in literally every position on the field.

Mbappe is elite in space and an elite finisher. Messi is also that and an elite playmaker. If you replace Mbappe with like… Vinicius Jr there will be a big drop off at the position but you’ll still be good. Messi is irreplaceable IMO. It’s like having Mbappe and Modric in one player, and in his prime he was better than both at everything.
yeah I mean I'm not trying to take anything away from Mbappe. He's like a better Henry to me which is already super nuts. He also still might be the third best player on his team.
