And just for the record, I’d prefer to keep it super casual and have fun with it. I’m not really interested in splitting hairs over technical stuff or anything as long as it isn’t game breaking or too OP. I’ll probably write most of the campaign.

i've gotten a good amount of responses to the form and it looks like monday/thursday are leading for the best days to meet, with tuesday just right behind. i'm going to leave it running for just another day or two just in case anyone still interested missed the thread. but as it stands, we defs have enough people to get started.
unless there's a big objection, i think we're going to go with roll20. it's super easy to sign up, and for the newbs out there it basically does all the rolling for you. once you've signed up, send me a DM with your email address that you used for the account and i'll have you added to the campaign. our first session will just be setting up character sheets/answering questions, but the great thing about roll20 is that once you're added to the campaign you can go ahead and start on your sheet. i will give everyone two days to DM me that they signed up and if i don't hear from you i'll consider you officially uninterested.
edit: is everyone comfortable using discord to chat while we play? or do i need to download skype/zoom etc?
CREATING YOUR CHARACTER:
list of races. once you've picked a race, take note of racial abilities and other traits, such as walking speed and such for your character sheet. let's keep it to races covered in the players handbook section UNLESS you think you have enough to deal with something outside of it.
list of classes. on this website you can find the class your interested in and it will break it down completely for you and help with optimization and stuff. it is very technical but don't let it get to your head; customize your character as much as you feel comfortable. as long as the basics are there, we won't have to worry about completing anything else for awhile.
consider your characters motives, ambitions, and personality. currently all characters are living within the QUAN MA DISTRICT, a rather populated port city in the country of Clarcton. What brought your character to this city? do they have a job? family?

also side note, just for my own lols: i had an idea to write a campaign where everyone's a bard in the same band, and then trouble ensues, so it would be called band on the run. then i thought about how cheesy that is so i punched myself in the face and started writing a real campaign lmao. don't wanna stifle everyone's ability to create their own characters.

Yeah it hurt my brain too. But I pulled out Jeremy's dnd stuff.
It's possible that my books are still in my dad's basement but I'm assuming that this website does the same thing? I'm having laptop issues at the moment so I haven't checked yet.
