eh Levitate has passed though, they'd be free to announce i think.
whoever mentioned Rhythm & Roots was probably on to something. plenty of acts there that could play that time slot, doesn't happen for another six weeks, hasn't sold out, etc. lots of reasons why someone on that lineup might not be able to announce an NFF performance in advance.
Ohhh that puts Cosmic Country into play which I think would be a good fit for that time slot as well. (And as I’ve mentioned before, an act I really wanted to see on this year’s lineup.)
Although I’d think a festival after Newport would result in an “Unannounced” rather than a “TBA” but I guess semantics.
They have a 7:30 set in Western PA so I think we can safely scratch them from the Friday TBA

whoops i was looking at the dates wrong, for some reason i was thinking the TBA was on the 27th not the 26th.
“Ok sure it’ll be a Dawes set with Conan and guests”
“…. Like it was advertised, and it’ll be all covers, not Dawes songs”
“Oh yeah that too , they’ll be doing covers too”
“…………… so not a Dawes set”
Someone tell me if I’ve been getting ripped off, but none of the 5 Dawes sets I’ve seen had Conan or Sierra Ferrel, or the weight for that matter.
my point is more that Dawes + people playing at the festival + cover songs feels like ground we've trodden on many times beforehand
I feel you, it does feel like at some we might want to address the elephant in the room that this base has possibly become impossible to please. One of the most talented musicians touring today closes the fort with no guests last year and many people complain.
A guest driven set is announced and some still complain. I just don’t think we’re getting anything mind blowing most years and for a fest that sells 10k tickets a Conan cover set with Dawes as a backing band and possibly some decent guests, sounds like a fun evening to me.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
It's the 10 year anniversary of the album and 65th anniversary of the Fest.
Taylor made a couple posts about the recording on his Substack in May. Probably reading too much into it but this quote stuck with me:
"There’s no good way to tell this whole story of this album without forcing it or getting too much of it wrong. So I’m gonna let this remembrance end here for now. I’m certain there will be one reason or another for The New Basement Tapes to come up again here on Substack, so I’m sure we’ll circle back at some point."

Then Conan can finally meet Dylan….since he was cockblocked by Gore last time he was supposed to meet him.
Only scenario where that's a Dawes set is if they're introducing Conan as the new bassist
As official band members yes, but Trevor the other guitar player has been with them for a while now and was finally included in the studio this go round. Some (including me) think he’s the secret best part of the bands live shows since 2021.
They haven’t said if the new touring bass and keys players are sticking around so who knows there.

Oh the live show went up 2 levels when Trevor joined. I often wondered why he wasn't a full time member. Key cog at this point imo.
Upon further digging on wikipedia, he did the music for O brother where art thou. Gillian Welch was an associate producer and performed two songs on the soundtrack. The hit song "man of constant sorrow" from the movie was covered way back in 1960 by none other than Joan Baez.

He also produced the music for Inside Llewyn Davis, which includes a beautiful rendition of Will the Circle Be Unbroken with Gillian Welch and Punch Brothers. Joan Baez also performed, along with others including Rhiannon Giddens, Elvis Costello, and Jack White (although if he’s at NFF, I figured they’ll save the surprise for Conan?) www.nonesuch.com/albums/another-day-another-time-celebrating-music-inside-llewyn-davis
