My friend who has all the screeners did an open house movie marathon this long weekend, helping me finish my to do list of movies for the Oscars. Here's my personal ranking. As the Big Lebowski says, it's just my opinion, man.
Must-See (in order): Poor Things The Holdovers Past Lives Godzilla Minus One The Boy and the Heron Spiderman Across the Spiderverse Nimona
Could See, if you are a Movie Fan (in order): American Fiction The Color Purple Zone of Interest May December Anatomy of a Fall Barbie Killers of the Flower Moon Nyad Rustin Oppenheimer
Yawn: Maestro Elemental
Hot Mess: Napoleon
"Robot Dreams" isn't coming to USA until May. The completist in me is mad.

Finally seen all the Oscar nominated films. This is how I'd rank them:
1. Poor Things 2. Oppenheimer 3. Killers of the Flower Moon 4. The Holdovers 5. American Fiction 6. Anatomy of a Fall 7. The Zone of Interest 8. Past Lives 9. Barbie 10. Maestro
Overall it was a solid year. I didn’t really dislike any of the movies nominated, unlike the past couple of years when there was at least one I didn’t care for (I thought May December would be that one this year, but glad it didn’t get the nod.) Almost half of these made my personal top 10 as well, which again, is more than the last few years.
if i was at the oscars, i would interrupt oppenheimer's best picture award kanye style and start rambling "imma let you finish, but blackberry was one of the best movies of the year"
I got no beef with Gladstone winning best actress, but it’s actually crazy to think Stone in Poor Things won’t win, up there with PSH in the Master for best performances to not take home the gold.

It's understated vs overstated. Sort of like Michelle Yeoh vs Cate Blanchett last year. The argument against Emma is that she has already won and that playing the manic pixie dream girl archetype isn't really as important or even difficult as the type of role and performance that Lily Gladstone gave.

To reduce Bella Baxter to "manic pixie dream girl"....seriously? Her physical movements alone was next-level for her as an actor.
I wish Gladstone all the best and am rooting for both.

Yes. To be clear, Poor Things was my number 1 of the year and I love the book as well, and I love Emma Stone. But if you comb through letterboxd and see what naysayers are going with that's the main thing. And the whole "hollywood pedo" thing about her being a child in an adult body or whatever
Lily is my pick mainly because I thought she was by far the best part of Killers and I think understated performances don't get enough love from the academy. But if Emma wins the SAG this weekend I think it is a lock for her.

This is exactly why I don't have a Leterboxd account. Thankfully, those folks and the awards voters have probably no overlap.
edit: I find the whole trend of throwing around "pedo" is such a strawman shutdown technique. They have no interest in eradicating rape culture in media, and the normalcy of that language waters down any effort or critique A LOT of tv and film needs.

Gladstone was good, as were all the nominees this year. But Stone’s performance was on another level imo and I think she really deserves it. But I think the Academy can’t wait to pat themselves on the back for giving it to Gladstone.

This is reminding me of the NBA not wanting to give Jokic MVP because he’s already won it. Wish this wasn’t used as an argument.

Or Jordan every year and then he just went out and won the Nba Finals along with the Finals Mvp instead. Or even Lebron for a stretch.

Everything seems locked down for Oppenheimer, Cillian, RDJ, and Da'vine Joy Randolph. It's officially a race between Emma and Lily.
I’ll admit to being a little bummed that the Paul Giamatti dark horse bandwagon hasn’t gathered more steam. I can’t be mad at Cillian Murphy given what he did in Oppenheimer, but Giamatti’s work in The Holdovers, while less showy, is just so great.
