How much more is VIP? Had a bad experience camping next to untrustworthy people last year and I'm a little more comfortable financially this year so I am considering the upgrade...
Generally speaking, General Admission (GA) is $200 and VIP runs a little less than $600. Again, these are general prices as it all becomes a big blurr once the fees and shipping costs get added on top of the stated ticket price.
VIP is so worth it. If you can afford it and want to enjoy the Roo music experience and see more bands than you could ever see as a GA'er, then do it. I think I saw four or five shows in 2005 because we were out in GA in BFE. In 2006, we saw over 40 shows - no problem.
Unrelated: OU is losing in this stupid Fiesta Bowl. Ugh. They're killing me with the turnovers. FRICK! BARF! Ugh! blah.
Ok, so I know the cons of VIP, all the things that I would miss if I wasn't in general camping. But I need help with the pros of VIP - I just can't bring myself to thinking it's worth $550(if it doesn't go up more!) vs. $150 (pre-sale)... it's tough
But it seems some of my favorite roo-ers might take the VIP leap, and I like those people darn it!
So can anyone who has gone VIP please tell me some really fabulous things about it... things good enough to make me spend $400 extra dollars! I'm having some trouble rationalizing it on my own!
Thanks.... I'll be waiting patiently ;D
Go VIP or I will break into your house and pee in your kitchen sink.
ahhh.... well that would bother me only if i didn't pee in the kitchen sink regularly
oh i have another vip food question... was there free fruit available, and what kinds? when I drive to roo that's generally one of the only foods I bring in - fresh fruit and trail mix/granola type stuff... i find it's kind of nice to have some fruit in the extreme heat there. just wondering if vip supplies it and i won't have to bring it in.

Hmm... I remember apples. And a fruit salad one day. But apples on two days I think. Anyone else?

care to elaborate about the untrustworthy experience? i heard of people getting their cars broken into, over in tent only i had great neighbors - no complaints

The guys (and gals) next to us drove off while their neighbors were all gone, leaving garbage all over the place and smashing a tent (and the content of said tent) with their huge pickup truck in the process. They came back the next day, pretending to be oblivious to what they did and the people they screwed over declined to call the cops or even get mad about it. Ya gotta love it when people are too f'ed up to show any consideration for their personal property. I posted about it right after roo and got flamed for it, the thread is probably still buried in these forums somewhere.

I've had a completely different experience in GA (every year for me so far). I usually leave my campsite before noon and return after the late-night shows. It's easier to see more music with VIP, but it can be done with GA. Packing everything I need for all day is the trick (water, food, sunscreen, chair, rain gear, etc.), but it's a real hassle to carry a 30lb backpack back and forth from BFE for three days straight. On the plus side, the more you pack in, the less they seem to search you at the Centeroo gates.
As of right now I am going solo again, but if there is anyone willing to split the VIP I may be ready and willing. ;D
Hey Jay,
As of right now I'm going solo again too. (After the fun I had going solo last year, I almost don't want to risk going with anyone. I would be afraid I wouldn't make as many cool new friends. Plus I'm a bit afraid of going with friends, and coming back with enemies...since I know that happened to some people.)
Anyhow, I got the early bird ticket and definitely couldn't afford VIP. So I hope some of the Inforoo crowd is planning on GA again this year. Camping wouldn't be the same without you guys. ;D
VIP is a "Real Roo experience." It's a much much better one if you ask me. There are 2 types of roo experiences. One entails a bunch of walking and not a whole lot of time to go back to camp and take breaks during the day, and one entails minimal walking and being able to watch the music WHILE you break at camp. It's a no brainer if you ask me, though I completely understand people who feel it is too expensive.
See that's the only statement I'm still on the fence over, cause I had the no walking/hearing bands at camp in tent only, ya know?
But seriously, that was good advice, thank you
I actually found out today that I am going to have to cancel a cruise I was supposed to go on, because of my new job. If everything goes ok, I will be getting about $600 back in my hands, that I had considered already "gone." So that little windfall, is kinda putting me over the vip edge It makes me want to try it since it won't have to come out of any sort of regular budget, I can just put it aside for roo now.
I'm actually nervous about the whole "boyfriend at bonnaroo" thing... although he's super great and I adore him (blah, blah, blah ) roo is my FAVORITE time of every year, and I'm really an independent person in general. If I have a shadow the whole 5 days, I'm gonna be pissed. That happened with a friend in '05 and we are no longer friends! Not that he's uncool enough to really shadow me, but I get irritated really easily when I want to see a million things and I have to coordinate with someone else, and it's 100 degrees on top of that. So I'm thinking I might just tell him - hey, I'm going vip, you can do what you want. I'm actually hoping his friends end up going cause then he could camp with them in GA and not annoy me!
Plus I mean, although this is my best relationship ever, I do suck at them in general, so do I really want to make my plans for 6 months away around him? That is soooo far away. Yeah, not thinking that's too wise.
And, ok, I swear I am not as evil as I just sounded ;D
Hey Tara,
I totally understand your fear of going to Roo with someone. As you know, I went solo last year, and I had such an amazing time with all the other soloroo people that I'd be afraid to go with anyone and have a less than amazing experience.
Good luck trying to tell the BF that you want to go to Roo, but not with him. If he's cool with that, you've definitely found a great and understanding boyfriend.
Sorry I've just been massively posting to this forum. I blame it on trying to make up for my absence and getting very excited about this years Roo.
I'm disappointed to see that so many Inforooers, including Alisa, Tara, and Jay will all be moving up to VIP this year . As a broke grad student, I shouldn't be going at all (I don't really have the money. Plus, I'll be missing classes and my internship.); so there's no way I can afford or justify the VIP treatment.
However, I do have my early bird ticket to Roo (xmas present from mom and dad) and if everything works out I will miss Thrusday, but be there from Friday morning thru Monday. I hope you guys will all come visit the little people who are still stuck in the Tent-Only section of GA. Speaking of which, are there any members of Inforoo who are planning on camping in GA tent only again? I hope that Camp Shooter McGavin doesn't become deserted!

Well, as of right now I am still in the air as far the VIP thing goes, so maybe you won't be alone in the camping only area ;-)
Do the VIP attendees get any preferential treatment as far as seeing bands in the tents goes?
No, not in tents. There are two bleacher stands that are nice but not really used as much as I thought they'd be (by younger VIP'ers). But I did hear talk of possibly having VIP "side" areas.
I'm thinking VIP will either be crowded and/or sell out really quickly this year, with all the new Bonnaroo fans from last year. And more and more people seem to want to upgrade to VIP.

I think I am convinced. I purchased my pre-sale tickets already for me and the girlfriend but I just got a huge fat raise with my promotion so I think its going to be VIP this year. I like the shower Idea and being so close. Walking always kills me cause every year I am in BFE. THANK YOU INFOROOOOOO!
