Def. doing the VIP thang. It'll almost pay for itself. last year looked like this....GA ticket+groceries, campstuffs&beer+ 'other' roo expenditures= 200+150+200=550$....... and VIP is lookin like dis.. 600$ ticket+200$camp stuff, cheap booz, food & roo exp.=800bucks. i can afford the extra 250-300 raise due to the fact i'll be IN CENTEROO! and i can get dirty all i want and take a nice shower so's I can get dirty again.plus with less walkin' i'll have more energy to see more shows with some extra gas left over to chase the little green goatmen wandering around my altered psyche just before Tool plays.
So we went last year and did GA, had a 30 minute walk to Centeroo and was so tired out, we missed half the concerts we planned on seeing. This year we're going VIP, as I understand, we're allowed into the main stage area 24 hours a day? Is that right?
I would kill for a 30 min walk. The last 2 years we were as far out as possible. Took about 45-50 min each time.

Hi all - this is my first post and 2007 will be my second Roo experience. Husband and I stayed in a hotel last year and day-tripped (!) it into the event. Not bad, we had a nice bed and hot showers, but missed the camping experience and had nowhere to rest during the day. This year, we want to stay on site, but have no desire to stay with my 18 year old son and his buddies amid the great unwashed masses (plus - son doesn't need to see us in action!). VIP is perfect option for us and we will still have the option to travel among the peasants and meet up with kid to hand him $$$$. Hoping we will meet more "boomers" like us - we can compare wrinkles and share colonoscopy stories!! See you in June!

I wish you were my mom....can I still meet up with you to get money?

Oh sweetie - if last year is any indication, I am going to be Mom to a lot of kids -- I love the young pups, but frankly, they just don't know how to pace themselves over 4 days. No need to drink/smoke it all in one day! Find me in Centeroo - I'll be handing out water, bandaids, wipes, tylenol and hugs ($$$ only in extreme cases - not so much)

Did you deduct all these kids on your taxes cause thats a huge EIC? I know exactly what you mean.....#1 rule of Bonnaroo=PACE YOURSELF
Anyone have an idea of how many VIP tix are available? I'm trying to get the finances together for it, but I'm not sure if they will be by next Friday.
I know it sold out last year, and will probably sell out faster this year, but I may need a week or two for the tax return to show up.

i think you should be ok, they didn't sell out for a while last year. and i can't imagine the lineup having THAT much of an impact on VIP. don't have a credit card you could use in the meantime?
alright. I went GA in '05 and it was a humbling experience. packed like sardines and miserable. exhausted by the time we got to Centeroo. My boyfriend and spent most of Thursday in a state of shock and trying to get some sleep after an all-night drive. I didn't think we'd go back.
But this lineup will bring us back. And now, after just 2 pages of this thread, I'm definitely going VIP. It will take out anything that made us uncomfortable the first time.
And thanks to the person that mention it works out to 100 a day plus ticket cost. To me, this makes all the conveniences well worth it, free food and cheaper beer, showers, happy people. I can't argue with these things. I'm over the fence as well!
and I CAN'T WAIT!!!
I'll just have to pay off my laptop next year....lol.
We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and They both tell me that we're better than this
We'll do the VIP next year - looks like in order to go this year - it will be GA - but I did not have much of a prob last year - we ended up on Pod 2 I believe - the walk was not horrible and once we hit Centeroo - we just stayed there - found some shade trees - kicked back and enjoyed ourselves.
The nice thing is that I think my boyfriend will be super gung-ho about VIP tix. Even if he wasn't, I'd buy em anyways . The griefs of GA is what stuck in his mind and even despite this amazing line up, was his only reservation about going this year. Plus I won't have to put much time in thinking about food. I'll probably bring some breakfast foods and then leave teh rest to the VIP tent. We'll be able to travel a tiny bit lighter. And as far as gear, all I need to find is a shade tent set up. We have a two room tent, one room for sleeping and another room that is a floorless screen room, which thanks to the sardine-packed GA last time was impossibly hot.
I"m going to be planning for the next long 4 months. Buut i loves it!

I'm new to this Forum, and will likely be a Bonnaroo Newb this year. I've been reading about the line-ups and experiences each year and keep telling myself I have to go. My girlfriend are I are going VIP (in fact only going to Bonnaroo at all) if we can get a couple friends to come as well. We have some friends who want to come, but not sure if they want to spend the extra cash for VIP. For me I gotta have that shower every day, but the friends I'm asking aren't as hard core about travelling 13.5 hours to go to a festival.
I've been read the pages throughout this thread and I passed on advantages of VIP, but I think I need a closing line. Any ideas?

There's a special show on Thursday night just for the VIPs. 2 years ago it was Benevento/Russo. Last year it was Rebirth Brass Band. It's a small stage for a small group of people and it's a blast. You get to interact with the musicians in a way that's impossible on the larger stages.
The VIP tent is located by the What Stage -- the main stage where the headliners play. You can hang out there drinking discounted beer, eating free food, out of the sun and then, when you re-enter, you're right in the thick of things.

Question...what time is food served to and from. I think I read noon, but what time do they have food til? And is it basically lunch and dinner, or do they leave the food tent open all day and after the show?

The special first night show alone could pay for itself if you drink enough of the FREE beer. The discounted beer and free food could make up the rest of the difference. I think last year it took 1 $8 falaffel (not a good one either) and a $5 iced chai to make us realize that vip was money well spent. Also, Ice Cream! who doesn't like free ice cream on a 90 degree day. There is also something to be said for being able to jet back to your tent for any number of forgotten items and be back to whatever show within 15 minutes. Showers were hot (most of the time) we had plenty of space, everyone was very respectful of each other where we were. But most importantly The Air conditioned bathroom complete with attendents to make sure it was always kept clean (the other vip outhouses were cleaned about every half hour from what i could tell, always clean) enough toilet talk though.

I am now in the VIP debate too. Thank you all for all this great info so far. Another question: Does the proximity to the What Stage make it difficult to get any rest during the noon-midnight time? Last year I crashed at GA camp for Elvis Costello, etc. I don't need silence but how crazy is it being right on top of that stage?

It's loud!! we were about 100 ft off the back wall so the sound was great. You get used to it! They did a sound check at like 7 am on saturday last year, was a drag for a few minutes then we laughed it off and went back to sleep. I usually sleep pretty hard when I finally get down to it after being in a festival state of mind.

We didn't have any problems with noise from the stages, but we were pretty far away.
The yellow area is our camp and just right of the pink star are the bathrooms.

I swear I saw a picture on this forum similar to yours, although showing the VIP area and a picture towards the big stage. Anyone have any idea where I can find it?
There are lots of aerials, you just have to be familiar enough with each year's layout to know what year it's from. Terrapin used to have a website of aerial's from 2006 that I loved, but it's been taken down. There are several aerials of 2006 on the Roo 2006 website. I have an awesome one from Sunday afternoon on my desktop that I got from the web, but I can't find it anywhere now to provide the link.

I was just hoping to show a friend how close the VIP area is from the main stage..no worries, I'll take a look around...thanks for trying to help out : )
A little late to the party, but I figure this is a good thread to weigh in on.
VIP is worth every penny if only for the guaranteed close-in location and quick (un-searched) access into Centeroo. Everything else is a bonus. The food was so-so last year, but good enough to keep you full (and we're vegetarians). The lack of breakfast is kindof a drag, but we rock our own, so it's not a big deal. (Stop by the Pirate Latvia flag seen in Andrea's "room to breathe" pic and we'll hook you up with pancakes!). Flushing toilets, showers, and discounts on beer are certainly gravy.

Oh, and a cool-ass parking sticker that's still on my car.
I think half the reason we have kept our van is 'cause of that sticker!

I think that sticker is the reason I've held on to my car this long, too. And when the guy put it on there, he said, "I turned over the corner on the sticker so you will be able to remove it." I told him that sticker's not going anywhere and will sit patiently to wait for the 2007 sticker to be placed above it on the glass.

Hey folks, I'm new to the boards, but a local (Nashville) and a veteran of the '04 and '06 'Roos. I'm playing tourguide to a horde of Police fans (only a couple dozen, not anyone who'll steal all the tickets) and we're wondering: how are the sight lines from the VIP section for What Stage? Last year the VIP guidelines mentioned an elevated platform (which I believe I noticed during the Oysterhead show)...will we be able to get into the bleachers? I don't care so much about food or air conditioning, but I really want to see Stewart Copeland. Last year we didn't even stay for Radiohead, because the GA area was so crowded you couldn't even see the jumbotrons.

i'm glad you asked that cause that reminded me to bring some earplugs this year. as sacrilegious as it is, i'm thinking the best time for me to take a recharging hour or so nap will be during the headliner... being out in the sun all day, every day, last year i always ended up passed out before late night on some camp chair! and late night was really a favorite experience of mine in '05. so i've got to make it somehow this year! without the earplugs it definitely might be hard to catch a few z's being so close to that main stage.
