A quick question:
We bought VIP tickets and a hotel package on the first day they went on sale (which after reading this board is an oxymoron and pretty lame).
We decided that we would use the hotel room as an insurance policy and camp most of the weekend (in case of rain, or wanting to sleep somewhere in the heat of the morning as a recharge).
The problem is we thought there would be a shuttle, which now I understand there isn't unless you bought the Roo complete package.
My question if anyone knows or has done this before:
Is it not worth it to leave the grounds at all or is there the possibility to leave via car/cab easily on early morning Friday, Saturday, Sunday if you are in the VIP campgrounds?
Thanks for any info. And yeah feel like we wasted some cash but trying to make the best of it.
If you are parked in the VIP section, I don't think you can leave once you are parked. You may want to park in the day parking area and haul your stuff to the VIP camping area..you can leave in your car and re-enter after 9pm on Friday. You may want to check and see if this is OK to do (walking into VIP instead of driving in). I would prefer to just camp so I wouldn't have to bother with getting back to the hotel every night.
You can leave and enter on foot any time you want, so if you wanted to meet a cab somewhere, I'm sure they would meet you off grounds.
Please don't! We all know there is only one true university in NC. Ha. J/K! See you there.

hahaha, i didn't realize until now that the 'Roo takes place in Central Time, so we'll gain an hour on our arrival time. Probably about 11am or so. At least I figured out the time difference now and not after completely missing Clutch!
Wow, i hadn't even thought about that. Thanks! Karma.
Curious, what are your VIP'ers top few bands you're looking forward to seeing?
I don't plan on missing --> Wilco, Ben Harper, String Cheese, and luckily nobody has to miss the Police since all other stages shut down (same for Tool).
Got some decisions to make regarding awesome bands that play at the same time on different stages.
Also looking forward to seeing David Cross in the comedy tent, the son of John Coltrane, and unexpected collaborations...
Saw the Police last weekend in Edmonton. Sting was impressive: on the bass, singing and physically. Stewart was as tight as you'd expect (very!). Andy's showing his age a little as he groped for chords somewhat throughout the show. No backup singers. No costume changes. No instrument changes (aside from Stewart adding percussive potential throughout). Just the three of them: Raw Police. Overall, they are definitely something to look forward to next week!

Hey everybody. We're 4th year GA, 1st year VIP. Can't wait!
We're heading in from Knoxville and, instead of following the VIP directions from 40, which would take us almost to Nashville, I'm thinking about taking 55 down to 41. Did anyone try this last year?
Has anyone tried the VIP directions from Chattanooga? If traffic doesn't back up by the time you get to the recommended exit, maybe it's better for us to drive down to Chattanooga and take 24? I can't remember what exit it starts backing up at.
Also, the instructions say that VIP check-in begins at 10am. Is that accurate, or do they usually start earlier?

Hi everyone I asked this on the "convince me..." thread but it got lost down the page.
Regarding the VIP directions provided, is anyone planning to modify them a little bit? Specifically, I'm coming down I-24 from the Nashville direction and it seems like getting off at the exit they suggest is too early. Last time I went (GA in '04) we took our own back way and got off at the next exit no problem.
Also, when you get close to the GA entrances is there a separate lane for thru traffic and VIP or anything?
Thanks and see you all there!
(btw love your avatar mmgamoio!!!)
More clarification. It does seem like a long time to exit prior to the HIE, but I did it last year and arrived at the hotel around 10 AM. The drive down 41 was totally traffic free, until the City of Manchester. It took about an hour to get through town. I don't think I would chance waiting to get off because they DO close exits and those closed exits have changed all 4 years I have been. They probably change throughout the day as traffic varies.
My own question...........I am just about an hour away, so I can leave at anytime Thursday morning. What was the scene like at the HIE last year prior to 10 AM? Huge line? Did they start giving out wristbands earlier than 10?
We would like to be a little closer than we were last year (we were about 3 cars up from Andrea in her awesome aerial pic which I would link to if I could figure out how).

That's a good point about closing exits! I'll probably just stick to the directions then and enjoy the scenic drive along 41 even if it's a little slower that the interstate for those few miles. Sounds like I should expect most of the waiting in traffic to occur on the way through Manchester to get to the HIE.
Thanks to everyone for your help, this board is awesome.
is "guest" parking the same as "vip"? anyone know?
if that were the case then I would assume, non-VIP ticket holders couldn't go in with me, right?
thanks 1st Timer
Guest is a separate entrance - also no security there. Camping behind the Which stage and access to the What stage via a special road behind the stages. Also have special entrance into Centeroo next to the Which stage. Guest is killer. Congrats.
We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and They both tell me that we're better than this
- Grab your flyers and possibly meet up with campers at HIE Thursday - Enter VIP for last sober moments and possibly camp near the crew if you can swing it - Adjust camping during the day as everyone comes in (if you want- may be an issue for RV'ers) - Everyone will at least meet up during VIP party!
ok i've been out of the loop, but i'm ready now for VIP ROO!
when/where is the party? how can i get a hold of the flyers?
I have the phone tree shea sent, but i'm not on it, so if you get a call from some random dude, plz accept the code word "inforoo meetup" as confirmation that i'm not a telemarketer or stalker.
me + 7 friends are coming fully stocked, so look me up. I'm driving a blue/purple mazda3 with georgia educator plates.

^^^^^Hey man. I sure do miss Athens. Went to school there years ago and have visited a few times for parties/ballgames. I loved it. We used to see Widespread play at the Underground every Tuesday night.

Hey folks, I'm a 'Roo vet and a local, but I'm showing up with a slew of friends from the StewartCopeland.net forums and am trying to get answers for some newbies. I'm VIPing it this year so I may see some of y'all in there! Can't wait - 6 more days!
Question from a buddy: Do you have to be there in person to trade your ticket for a VIP wristband, or can a friend do it for you? We've got a few people arriving in shifts. Any info appreciated!

Gotta be there in person- they want to put the wristband on you...
And welcome from the StewartCopeland.net forums! I'm in the Police fanclub- nice to meet ya!

Hey there! You too. Thanks for the speedy reply.
Folks over at SC.net are just about giddy with excitement over the tour and over this show in particular - The Man has announced he's trying to talk the bandmates into a different kind of show than they've been doing this last couple of weeks. We'll see!
Sure wish I thought he'd be there to jam on Friday night, but The Police are playing in Vegas that night and the time change sort of works against us. I'd bet he'll make at least one or two unscheduled appearances, though.
Hey RooSkew - I have an email from info@bonnaroo.com that says you don't have to be in person to get the wristband as long as the person who ordered the tix picks them up. I'm getting in a day before my wife arrives and they said I can pick up both wristbands on Thursday. Not sure if they are still responding to email but you may want to ask again for clarification.

Wow, that's odd... last year they were big about not just handing wristbands, but putting them on you. That's cool if it's not the case tho. Sometimes it's just a matter of who is there when you ask/get there. But at VIP they are usually very relaxed.
There was/is a thread re: inforoo jamming. Is anyone planning on gettin' down in vip? Who's bringing instruments?
It might be wise to "cross the divide," and jam with all the guys in GA Tent-only. I know my buddy is bringing a guitar (in VIP), but I don't know about anybody else.

Crossing the divide is definitely something i wanna check out. Just wondering what local action there might be.

My buddy and myself will be jamming out acoustically at our tent in VIP a lot. I'm bringing my old shitty guitar and he's bringing a djembe. I listed about 15 songs in the last page of the campsite jam session thread that we'll be jamming out to plus more and I invited anybody in VIP that happens to hear us singing our hearts out to not hesitate to come over, steal our beer and join in on the sing-a-long!
Unplug, I see Wagonwheel in your setlist. That's the type of song that can achieve group orgasm if everyone sings and there's a good mix of harmony voicings. Sweet-ass down home harmonies...
