However a $100 EZ-UP is a good price, as long as it doesn't say quick-tent, easy tent, etc. There seem to be alot of generic shade tents that require alot of effort to put together. Stick with the name brand and all you have to do is pop the shade tent up and stake it to the ground so it doesn't go flying away.

Any guesses on the pre party band? I will venture to say the Brazilian Girls, but that might just be because I am listening to them right now. But they seem to be the right size band.
That would be sweet, but if Pollstar's to be believed, it'll probably be Clutch:
Interesting side note: Sabina Sciubba (from BG) has been known to blaze up on stage, as well as invite girls from the audience to jump on stage and strip. Definitely not a show to be missed .

I really can't imagine them making the pre-party act a metal band. I mean, I'd be f'n thrilled if that was the case, but I just don't see it happening. ;D

Does the VIP Party band usually play at the festival on Thursday as well? If that is the case, then I like Spooky's Rodrigo y Gabriela idea. But, I thought last year it was Rebirth Brass Band who played the festival on Saturday last year.
Two years ago it was The Duo and their scheduled performance was with Mike Gordon. Last year the scheduled performance for the Rebirth Brass Band was a late-night double-bill with Dr John (even though they played separately). So my theory is they choose someone for the pre-party who is a viable act on their own but whose 'roo performance will be something different. Keller fits this bill...anybody else?
Hey all - on the bigger is better note - we just picked up a hexagon shade canopy (pretty damn big) really cheap. Way too much space for just us - so if anyone wants to share some shade, let us knowl! If anyone doesnt have a shade - let us know and what is ours is yours.

Yo hoka, me and 2 folks have been debating on the canopy situation, since we are driving a little honda civic with 3 passengers and camping gear, we don't think we can take a canopy we will take you up on that offer if its a serious one.....karma for the good thoughts
Bawnuhrew - we are totally serious - we will have plenty of shade to share. Our friends backed out so it will just be two of us at this point. Email me and we can make arrangements.
I am a first timer to Roo and I just wanted to say hello to all in the VIP Camp. My fiance and I will be driving from Baltimore, MD and I cannot wait throw down with everyone that weekend. I have been going to AllGood the last 4 years and I decided I needed to take a shot a Roo this year. Especially since AllGood is so weak this year. I decided to go with VIP based on everyone I had spoken with who had been to ROO in the past. Anything that I should know about that may have not been mentioned in the thread? I would like some clarification on what food is free and what kind of deal we can get on beer. Any other information would be greatly appreciated...

I will be camping out. I have all the gear including a nice EZ UP for the shade or the rain. I am praying for no rain. Thanks for the link to the other thread. I have several friends who have been to Roo and they all told me to spend the extra cash and go for VIP. I have been going to festivals for several years and I finally going to the big one. My only concern is the amount of people that go to Roo. 70,000 people is a ton of people...I am used to festivals of 20,000. Is there enough room to get close and enjoy the bands?

Bmore - getting close depends really on the band and where they are playing. Big name people (ie police, etc) and the big stages are going to be tough to get up close for - I'm sure there are more than a few folks on here who can give you stories of sitting all day waiting for Radiohead last year. The tents give you a lot better chance of getting up close. I personally don't like to be rude and shove my way up, but if you get there before the show starts, it's not hard at all to work your way pretty darn close. I've been right up front for shows nearly all 5 years.
hailboognish - Thanks for the reply. I thought so, but just wanted to check with those who have experienced the Roo. I have been lucky with AllGood where I have gotten really close, but got to get there early as well so I just need to get out of the beer lines a few minutes early.
yoohoo biatches its me again. its close to happy hour whahaha. hey okay so total dumb lumb question from the idiot savant camp, when is this preparty supposed to be and when should i be there to set up all my crapiola? thanx!
Hola peeps! looks like I will be RV'n it. We have a 35 ft triple slide out camper with a canopy and an eazy up. So we will have plenty of shade for all you nice people in VIP!! I look forward to partying with everyone and you are all welcome in our camp! We will have the gas grill going and XM radio and Dish during your breaks in between bands! Let's just hope Tool makes the bill man! Damn those drummers wrestling with their boxer bulldogs! I am also stoked about seeing the Police ( Stewart Copeland is the man ) and Clutch! I will be the one trying my best to get Meg White back to our camper for some "sexytime"!!!
We will be partying like ROCKSTARS in VIP in a few!
e-mail me or get on my MySpace and lets plan some VIP activities ; )

A question about VIP access:
Do you get a badge, or is it a bracelet? If it's a bracelet, is it Lance Armstrong-style (rubberized, easy to slip on/off) or nightclub-style (plastic or Tyvek strip, glued tightly to the wrist)? I gotta believe that a Tyvek strip is going to start chaffing after half a day of Tennessee heat, dirt, and partying (nevermind 4 days in that environment!). Dunno if I'd feel any more comfortable cutting it off and stuffing it in my pocket, tho'.

^^It is not the adhesive club type bracelets, but plastic with holes and a little snap type closure. You can't unsnap it. It never bothered us having to wear it all weekend.
the vip bracelet is the same as the GA bracelet, just a different coller. Its a glittery plastic strap. I WARN YOU!!!!! DO NOT CUT OFF YOUR BRACELET!!!!!!!!!! Last year a friend tore his bracelet off in a fit of "joy" and was not allowed to enter centeroo at all even though he still had it in his pocket. They would not even replace it.

So it's more like a hospital ID bracelet. Got it. Thanks.
[edit] Ouch! Thanks for the warning. I've got fairly hairy arms, so things like bracelets and watches can be a real pain (literally), especially in the summer: they tend to either chaffe or yank hairs. Guess I'll just have to find something else to distract me from the pain...
Actually I'm hairy, too. Just be sure when you check in they don't clamp it down tight but leave it a little loose. I had them back off a hole from where they wanted to clamp it and I got used to it pretty quick. The plastic is smooth so it didn't really pull.
