This will be my 4th year, but my first not taking an RV and camping instead. I have a couple of questions about camping that I still haven't found around the forums, maybe someone can help me.
- Let's say I use my car to charge cell phone, camera, etc..........will that drain my battery if I do this everyday without turning the car on and leave it running?
- I'd thought about sleeping in the car, but I suppose the fumes from the car would bother the neighbors. Does anyone actually do this? If you've slept in your car without turning it on, how is it? I'm thinking of taking a minivan and putting an air mattress in the back.
Featherbone, theres a thread about shoes (http://bonnaroo.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=logistics&action=display&thread=5066) that many people have suggested Keens for. Crocs, Vibram Fivefingers, Tevas, rain boots, flip flops, and Sanuks are other suggestions people have made that I can think of.
Guitarheroo - I cant say from personal experience, but I know plenty of people use their car to charge. They suggest turning your phone off during shows to save on your phone's battery. There are also some items you can buy that are solar powered or battery powered that allow phone charging.
Also, plenty of people sleep in the car but keep in mind the fumes can actually bother your neighbors if the exhaust is near their area. Many people crack the windows, add tarps to the east side where the sun rises, and use battery operated fans to make it work. Some people dont even use tents and use an EZ Up with tarps on the sides and a cot. they get more airflow than a tent and sleep longer, apparently.
Last year I slept in my car, I didn't turn it on. I had the windows rolled down and blankets over them to block some of the heat and light. By 7:15 I was awake and sweltering, I opened the doors and put my battery powered fan in it. It worked a little better but it didn't last long. This year my bro and I are bringing an Easy-up, a few tarps, my fans and 2 cots. No tent at all. I'm pretty sure it'll be the best sleep I've gotten in 3 years on the farm.
They're like this one, the batteries last all weekend if you only turn them on in the morning:
Oh, and I'm hoping the tarp and EZ up will block most of the rain if it does rain. At night the EZ up will be in the lowest position, so I doubt I'll get wet on the cot at all.
In 2008, my bro and I roasted in a tent. In 2010, my wife and I roasted in a tent until she got so hot and dehydrated I drove her to my mom's and came back alone. That's when I slept in the car. 2011 is gonna be better. I've sworn off tents at Bonnaroo.
I think I would still want a tent. I have issues with things crawling on me. I know that I'm in their world and yada yada yada. But i would like to place a piece of nylon between them and me.

My wife too. That's why we sleep in separate beds.
^Now that makes me laugh! I always use a tent and a reflective tarp toi keep the sun out...also a fan ...it makes the morning bearable. I cannot imagine sleeping in my car, in 2007 our neighbors were sleeping in their car and by 7 am they were laying on towels on the ground because it was way too hot!

Thanks, that completely deters me from the car idea. I guess I'll be buying a tent. Wal-mart has a bundle of a tent, an ez up and 2 chairs for $100. It's probably a cheap tent but I only camp at bonnaroo and I'm hoping it'll last four days........ it's a pretty good deal.
I actually already have 2 of those exact fans! We bought them for the hurricane season and they're pretty sweet.
We bought a cheap fan last year from Walmart that was a "ceiling fan" that hung from the top of your tent. I don't know what happened, but the batteries exploded or something and the fan broke on the first night. I would def. suggest not buying the cheapest fans! Fans are vital for sleeping in comfort!!!

where do you guys store electronics that you don't want to carry around? i'm afraid of leaving things in the car because it would get so hot. i'm just worried about where to store my gps while we're parked the four days.
Not a whole lot of options besides the car. Wrapped in a blanket would actually be cooler than in the open with the sun beating down. You could get silly and bike lock a bag to your car and master lock the bag shut. I doubt most thieves at Roo are going to be that obvious to try to rip that off, but I've been wrong before... once...

yeah i was thinking about the glove box or console, or putting it wrapped in a towel inside a tupperware container and then leaving it in the cooler. my dad has left his in his car on the nights it's gotten well below 0 here. hmmm.
There are a few guys in our group that usually have to be in touch with work on the drive down and back so we've left numerous electronics devices in the car or RV every year and never had an issue with them because of the heat. Obviously we're not leaving them in direct sunlight/where people can see them. Just wrapped in a blanket in the trunk or glove box.
Hey guys, I haven't been able to fiind a thread for suggestions/help to people who are flying in. We are flying into Nashville on thursday and plan on taking the shuttle to the farm. Obviously what we can bring, especially coming from Canada, is drastically altered by having to fly. For example I see so many people saying "you have to have an e-z up" but we can't bring one. We will be bringing small tents and locks for the tents. Are locks going to provide security for our tents? Has anyone had their tent broken into with locks on it? Is there a place close to the airport where we could grab some beer and tobacco before we head to the venue? What is the respect level between campers? I've been to one festival where camping was such a gong show. People were voiding/Leno-ing all over other peoples tents/campsites and full tents were literally stolen. From everything I have read on here the Bonnaroo crowd isn't like that but I have to ask for the piece of mind of my GF. What did it cost last year (2010) in Centeroo for a beer?
Thanks so much for any help you guys can provide. I just want to be as prepared as possible for our first Bonnaroo experience.
Jacketman... check out the 2011 helping hands thread ( in the that tent) you can request to borrow an ezup or chairs/ cooler/ help with people bringing cases of water beer..etc on that thread. It is geared towards helping those flying or bussing in. I did this in 2009 and it worked really well and was able to meet lots of new friends..
I'm bringing an RV this year and was wondering about the entry logistics. Are RV's subject to the same lines and entry points as cars? And is there a time to show up, or avoid as to not get stuck in BFE? If this isn't the right thread let me know where to look..Thanks.
Has anyone used a solar power charger for phones, Ipods, etc? I was looking into getting one so we don't have to run off the car battery at all. I'm just unsure of where to even start looking for a decent one. Thanks in advance!
Oh, how I love the modify button! Has anyone brought jello or pudding shots along? You really can't make too many unless your camp plans on eating them all the first day but I kind of want to try it.
I really like this EZ up/open air sleeping idea. And if it rains, it would block most. But if anyone can remember 2009 when it thunderstormed to the max? We were in a good tent and our EZup actually got blown about 20 feet (yes it was staked in) and one of the legs totally twisted and broke. Sooo, while nice summer nights might be possible, I don't know if I'd risk it without any other option.
2009 was my first year, brought an EZ up and pitched my tent half under it with a cot under the EZ up. My friend Andrea and I ended up battling for the EZ up, the tent got so hot. Last year I didn't even bother with bringing a tent, set up my cot under the EZ up and got great sleep every night. Highly recommend EZ up + tent.
So I'm considering doing tent-only even though it is my first year for the convenience factor....how far of a walk is it from tent only and the parking area?

It depends on where they park you: You'll be parked somewhere in GA and then have to tote your stuff to tent only. It's completely random. You could have a short walk or a long walk, depending on whether you end up in BFE or somewhere near Centeroo.
But is this parking separate from tent only? And will I be blocked in? We are going to attempt to leave sunday night.
if you go to Tent Only you park in the regular car camping campground areas and walk to Tent Only to pitch your tent. You can warn your neighbors and sometimes people could get surrounded, but some people gently move tents to the side so they can get through. People start leaving Sunday, so you might be ok and zig zag through what's left around you to get out.

In 2009, I had to politely ask a neighbor to move their car like 5 feet forward to get out Sunday night. The drive back was terribad though because I was soooooo tired. I took a 5 hr energy drink to keep from falling asleep and then shook the whole way home to knoxville. I then slept like 14 hours. I left Monday morning in 2010.
Last year, I was surprised how many people left Sun night. On my way back to camp from the water trough that night, I exchanged handclasps with a lot of people heading out... tickled a few feet, too. Got a lot of smiles... :-) Leaving is hard.
