So I have hair about to my chin. If i continue to grow it it should be to my neck. Now i am debating whether or not it is an advantage to have at roo to keep sun off. Is it worth it having long hair or is it more trouble than its worth...Discuss
I'm keeping my long hair. It really isnt that bothersome. Hot at times but all you need is a bandanna to keep it off your neck and it keeps it out of your eyes for shows while dancing around. All a matter of preference but I just like being able to rock out with all the hair and it never has really bothered me.

to sum it up:
"Almost cut my hair It happened just the other day It's gettin kinda long I coulda said it wasn't in my way But I didn't and I wonder why I feel like letting my freak flag fly Cause I feel like I owe it to someone..." - C,S,N, & Y
I had long hair in 04. And that was the last time I'll ever have long hair at Roo. Last year I cut it before, and it was phenomenal. I sweat alot, so having wet strands of hair hanging in my face is not my idea of a good time. I wore bandannas, but it still seemed to make my head hotter. I have long hair right now, but it's coming off in the coming weeks. It kinda depends on the person though. If you tend to sweat alot, you might want to consider chopping it off. It's hair, it'll grow back.
I went with long hair last year and regretted it. Forget keeping it clean when your best option is to dunk your head into a washbasin people are brushing their teeth and spitting into. :x

I went to roo with long hair, and wore it both up and down, and didnt have any problem with it. It definatly is NOT cooler then short hear though, just didnt bother me. I also dont sweat at all, and yes, i drink several gallons of water a day.

I've never felt like having long hair made my head hotter. I have thick hair, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. I feel like it insulates my head, because the outside of my hair will be hot, but my head won't be (no more so than normal). I'm going with my hair long this year, probably, but if I do I'll take some shears anyway in case I just feel like going nuts one morning.
I guess most of you know this, but remember if you shave your head right before, you can get sunburned on your scalp. One time I buzzed all my hair off and my head was hotter at work (in a kitchen) than it had been before (unbearably hot, actually), which may support my insulation theory.

Well for the work thing i'd say thats because it was more direct heat on your head, without the hair blocking it. At bonnaroo its not really like a heat lamp shining on your head, its just the constant heat getting trapped in by your hair. Like i said though, its really not as big as a problem as most people think. If you like having long hair, dont cut it off just for roo, i guarentee it wont be that bad.
this is vital I think for the longer hair (even though it is vital for any rooer). I drank a lot more water then my friends did and only one other has long hair. He always said it bothered him and I never complained about it. If you want the long hair try to just bring a little extra water.

Yeah, it's a matter of comfort and threshold. I've never been bothered by my hair being long, but when the breeze comes through your head does feel much better shaved. If you're not sure just bring the clippers and if you don't like it, cut it off.
My hair is not long to begin with, but it is thick. I will more than likely get a close cut before roo. I, then again, may not. I think that we will need to see how long I can take beore I need a cut.
"Chicago is known as the Windy City, and Montana is called the Big Sky State, so I think that we should somehow combine the two to create the ultimate kite-flying experience. "-Mitch Hedberg
I have real long hair, just the pony tail is about 13" from the rubber band.
I have had long hair for about 3 years now and I really dont mind it. I always pull it up into a pony tail and roll it to a bun or put it under my hat.
I may not have the hair at roo this year though. The original reason i started growing it was to donate it to Locks of Love. It is long enough to do that now and I think I will be getting it cut soon. I may wait til after roo, Im not sure yet. (If my wife has her way, it will be sooner than later)

Use lots of sunscreen on your neck if you cut your hair off, the skin that hasn't seen much sunlight in a couple of years can burn really quick. I have made that mistake a couple of times.
last year I went with a buzz haircut and evcerything was ok. I put sunscreen on my head to make sure it did not burn. A sunburned head is about the most pain I have ever been in. I have been letting the hair grow since then, not because of the sunburn.
I wonder whether it makes a difference, heatwise, if you have dark vs. light hair?
I'm in the process of growing out a fairly short cut to where it'll be just long enough (no more than shoulder length) to pull into a ponytail or pull off my face with a bandana. I hadn't considered the "long and short" of Bonnaroo. Maybe I'll go really short again--we'll see how hot it gets here in Maryland in June, and then I'll decide.

Light hair SHOULD be cooler (although, possessing brown hair myself, I have no standard for comparison). Just falling back on my scientific knowledge. Darker objects absorb more light/heat. Lighter things reflect the light. So go ahead and grab that bleach bottle!

Slightly off topic, but in the winter I have very dark brown (pretty much black) hair, but in the summer the sun turns it a fairer brown... And I went to florida a couple years ago and my facial hair started to turn blonde... kinda odd.
I'm gonna have hair down to my cheek bone by bonnaroo and i'm considering turning it into dreads just for the weekend so it doesn't get in my way. Anyone can relate?
I guess so the hair doesn't stick to my neck. I never had dreads so it'll be weird
I have thinner and longer hair than my sister. She has a head full of THICK hair. Last year her hair was short. She kept complaining how she had a hot head. I braided it for her(in a couple of french braids) so get it off her neck and she still complained of a hot head. I on the other hand had long hair(down to my bum) and was tottally fine! Her hair is blond and mine is brown. so, yeah I think if you've got thick hair and like to complain like my sister your heads gonna be HOT!
I have long thick hair - I will just frenchbraid it and wear a bandana - but the advantage to lots of hair is that you can get it wet and it stays wet and when the wind blows it is very cooling
Boz on the other hand has a shaved head and he swears it is cooler

i keep my hair pretty short anyway, but ill probably chop it off right before roo. ill be the one in the skirt you are pointing and laughing at calling a guy.
actually there are plenty of real guys wearing skirts at roo
only dave fans make fun of them (jk...)
i have fairly long hair, will be to my shoulders by roo id guess, it already gets in my mouth if i don't pull it back
i'll just keep it in a pony tail and pour water on my head from time to time.... its what i did last year (even tho i was rockin the medium cut - just past ears last year)
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
Keep your long hair, man, you know you love it. When ever I had long hair in the summer time I always rocked a t-shirt sleeve on my head to kinda lift my hair up and absorb the sweat, it's wide and can roll up or spread out over your dome. When it's soo hot you don't want to wear a shirt the home made sleeveles variety are pretty comfortable, too.
edit: The t-shirt sleeve is extra pleasent with shoulder length(or a little longer) hair. It lifts it up so it like dusts your neck and I always felt way cooler with it on, and it's not as permanent/tough to undo as dreads.

^ Problem is that i'm currently in that awkward not long/not short phase and it just looks stupid. If it clears that last hurdle before Roo, then I won't shave it off. If not, then......
