my hair has been short for like 11 years, it is cool, and nothing to worry about in the morning/going out
That's been my logic for years but, now that i'm rapidly going gray, I'd like to grow it out one more time before I start looking like the "old hippy" guy. (Probably after too. ;D)
I usually keep my hair short (2ish inches, messy), but I've grown it out so that the back is down to the nape of my neck and the front is down past my nose.
And while I'd love to embrace the long hair community at 'Roo, I'll definitely chop it all off before then.
Heck, yesterday it was like 80 degrees max and I was about to just go shave my head
^ Problem is that i'm currently in that awkward not long/not short phase and it just looks stupid. If it clears that last hurdle before Roo, then I won't shave it off. If not, then......
That's a good point, you don't want to look stupid around 90,000 people that don't care what you look like. Do what feels good! "Don't snap my undies." - Cheif Wiggum
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

I have two words for my long hair as well Rubber Band
Elastic - the miracle cure for hot head! Haven't had a haircut for more than 15 years... Heat has never been an issue, the only problem is going without a shirt or sunscreen and getting a case of "skunk stripe"...
I have real long hair, just the pony tail is about 13" from the rubber band.
The other day I was curious about how long my hair was so I asked someone to measure it.... no girlfriend + crazy work schedule = asking a co-worker to do it. Went something like this...
Me: Hey Josh, can I ask you something?
Josh: Sure, what's up?
Me: I ain't queer or nothin', but could you measure my ponytail?
Josh: *laughs as I hand him a tape measure*
Hair tie to end is nearly twelve inches. Some might wonder why I'm measuring my hair. Same as dmbfan, I'll be donating it pretty soon. This will be my second donation. If any other "long-hairs" are interested in donating their cut hair, check out www.locksoflove.org. They provide hairpieces for children who need them.

I'm keeping my long hair. It really isnt that bothersome. Hot at times but all you need is a bandanna to keep it off your neck and it keeps it out of your eyes for shows while dancing around. All a matter of preference but I just like being able to rock out with all the hair and it never has really bothered me.
Same reason I keep mine long, for rockin out...and cuz in winter you never regret it and in summer its not bad (i dont sweat much so I am fine)

Ive finaly gotten passed the 'not short/not long' ugly head faze which i have never been able to do, i normally shave it all off cuz it's easy to maintain, and it hides the fact you havn't taken a shower all day( and it means an extra half hour of sleep normally spent in the shower if i hafta go to work) I sweat alot but i think i'll manage just fine at roo with plenty water and a bandana. had my head buzzed last year at Roo and i got sunburned really badly behind my ears on friday, so this year i have hair to block it so thats one perk, plus i'm hopin' the hair might be that extra push to help me score some ferris wheel lovin' with some good natured girly (i don't mean that, unless of course yer a girl and you are smiling whilst reading this)

I have short hari, one thing i did was to soak a bandana in water and drape around my neck, as did my wife with hair to mid-back. Her's is curly and though we were both hot, the water soaked bandana around the neck/head worked well.
I like a shaved head because if you are hot, you can quickly become cool with water on your head. (I used to rinse my head in cold water and towel off when workig in a hot kitchen.
my hair is a little above my shoulders, but still too short to put in a ponytail or pigtails...i do the t-shirt sleeve instead of a bandanna when i go to the gym and such, it works much better imo....

What about the baldies? I shaved my dome a few months back... looks like I'll be sporting a hat or a mullet wig, gotta keep the sun off it and keep from blinding those around me.

Peace
i'd advise a hat or some other type of head cover for any hair (or non hair) type for roo, and probably some sunscreen as well for those without any hair or with very very very short hair

I donated mine after 'roo 05. I'd had it long for 15 years and had every intention of growing it back, but I'd forgotten how easy it is to take care of short hair! It's been short ever since.
After many years of paying homage to the goddesses of long hair, and several donations to Locks of Love, I am coming short.... it is so much easier to wash and cooler, too!

Interesting seeing this post... I was thinking earlier, with all of the "long hairs" at 'roo, that Locks Of Love should have a booth and try to score some donations for a good cause. I'm sure it would help cool some people off too. Who knows, maybe even some of the kids might want some dreads :-)

I thought about doing this a couple of years ago, but gave it up after reading the requirement that hair must be CLEAN and dry. ha! I guess a booth could be set up by one of the water stations...
Anybody can do it though - here's a little zip file with all the forms and instructions you need to be a locks-of-love volunteer: www.sendspace.com/file/28lk3g
hmm i have pretty long hair and last year i had no problem...i just kept it up the whole time this year i am considering cutting it just because i am getting tired of it.
my hair is long, about 2 inches below my b00bies.. i love it and i know its going to get so tangly and knotty, but its so worth it
****EDIT: i got my hair cut today, about 5 inches cut off... i was thinking how depressed i will be at bonnaroo when i wont have my long hair but on the upside- its a lot healthier now ???
A long haired boy here, about half way down my back. I've had long hair ever since I was a teenager, so I guess I'm used to the "heat" problem of long hair. I can't say I've ever noticed. Daily brushing is all I've ever had to do for Bonnaroo, and actually seems to stay remarkably clean considering the circumstances.
