As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!

good idea about the string cheese...i will bring some for that night, nah, i'll bring that other stringy stuff, whats it called, i'm drawing a blank, is it called silly string or something, that'd be cool
You can buy milk (or soy milk) in individual serving containers that do not require refrigeration. Add a good cereal = yum. Kashi GoLean cereal is awesome. So is their Crunch version. High nutritoin, good protein for a cereal, healthy, and very low in sugars.
If you'll have a way to boil water, then good instant oatmeal (McCann's or a low-sugar brand, sugar is super evil in the heat and really bad for breakfast). That's our plan for a hot breakfast. You can also make coffee by picking up a single-cup #2 or #4 filter holder that goes over a mug. It looks like a plastic funnel with a base to fit over your mug. Put in a paper filter, some grinds, pour hot water in, let it sit a minute to filter through, a little more water, etc. All you need is paper filters, grinds, the filter holder, and a mug. Small tupperware container is good for the grinds.
We'll bring apples, bananas, and avocados -- no refrig required and good foods with lots of nutrients and energy. Oranges dont sit well with me personally (the citric acid gets to my stomach) but anything like that rules. Probably some dried fruits, too. Prunes (we love em, sorry), apricots, apples, etc., but the ones without added sugar are best and definitely in moderation or you may see some very unhappy times in the porta.
If you buy energy bars or snack bars, look for ones with low sugar content (less than 15 g. sugars). Sugar alcohols are fine, but watch out for true sugars. More than 10 protein per bar is also good.
Nuts are also good but best in moderation. Tons of energy in them, though, and easy to carry about.

In the Detroit area (I don't know about anywhere else), Kroger's just had this sale on Power Bars for $1 a bar. Unbelievable. Like the idea about the pre-cut veggies and eggs for breakfast. I will also be taking the Quaker oatmeal bars and beef jerky. Thanks for all the ideas fellow Roo-mates!! ;D Can't wait. Someone might have to join me for breakfast though... I hate eating alone.

Hey Redfox, I don't like eating alone either. If the offer is still opened, I'd love to join you for breakfast. Lemme' know. Peace.

well if you insist I guess I can eat some breakfast.
That's always been one of my favorites... and I found out a couple months ago that I'm his great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-granddaughter! (yeah, I know eight greats is a stretch, but it's my only claim to fame)
My great-grandfather was a horse thief in PR. It doesn't mean much here in the states, but it's worth a few free meals in Old San Juan...
wow dude you are a funny funny man. i'll try to find you guys at camp inforoo. you cats are wild....

I'm bringing a bag of good ole Trail Mix, Cheerios (The regular, cause I can say no to the honey nut cheerios), and God's gift to the college life and beyond: Pop Tarts.
I just bought some banana chips and peanut butter to dip them in...yummy. Somehow peanut m & m's have snuck into my trailmix (hubby's addition) so I hope they don't melt too much!
I'm in VIP as well, stocked up on snack items and I'm leaving the grill at home. I like to cook at home, but not gonna happen at Bonnaroo this year.
What I got: (Snap in to a...) Slim Jims Beef Jerky Fun-sized bags of chips - you can eat them at once and not worry about them going stale. STAR CRUNCHES to keep in the cooler. If you have little debbie snacks in your grocer, these are the bomb. For that super late night sugar fix before bed. Peanuts - a huge jar - to share with my neighbors. Fruit N Nut Trail mix Peach & Berry Special K Bars Fruit cups.
I take single serving things out of boxes and put them in ziploc bags. easier to store, and part of the trash is already thrown away at at home.
I have two cases of water. I have frozen one case for ice, and the other case will go in to the cooler chilled.
We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and They both tell me that we're better than this
Freezing a case of water is a great idea. Did it last year. Already got a case in the freezer- keeps the water icy cold 'til sunday and saves space in the cooler.
Otherwise my diet includes: -Bloody Marys, every morning!!!!!!!!
We have three cases of bottled water in the freezer and boy they take up a lot of space! They are busting out all over the place! Plus, once they freeze the turn into little slippery rock-hard rolling bowling pins and wont stand up any more, making them rather hazardous projectiles whenever I open the freezer!

You had me laughing there^^^^ We have our water in the freezer too and same thing happens every time we open it! karma for the laugh!

i think we were asked to go easy on the silly string.... see the following pointers from Clean Vibes:
Pre-Roo - Packing/Travel Tips:
* Carpool. The less stuff you stack, the more people you can pack! * Buy water in bulk and bring reusable bottles. * Buy food in bulk. Avoid bringing food that spoils easily and/or is individually wrapped. * Think reusable before you buy disposable! * Bring bags for garbage AND recycling. * Remember - this is a NO GLASS event! * Avoid Styrofoam coolers. * Smokers - bring an ashtray! Every cigarette butt you throw on the ground, we have to pick up!!!! * Consider borrowing camping equipment before buying new (tent, cooler, tarp, grill, etc.). * If you have to buy new, then reuse or recycle the box before you arrive on site. Applicable to all new gear. * Avoid bringing unnecessary items that become pesky waste (sequins, silly string, confetti, balloons, packing peanuts, etc.).
Bottom line: Use less stuff in the first place, reuse that stuff until it's really spent, and—only after following those two guiding principles—recycle.

I had the exact same problem while rummaging around in my freezer for my frozen lunch. I opened it up and they all started avalanching out. For every one I put back, two more slipped out. It was frustratingly comical.

Man...I thought I was the only one!
Last night my bf and I were watching TV and we heard a loud bang in the kitchen. When we walked in there, the force from the avalanche opened the freezer door and the bottles were on the floor. This morning I opened the door like an idiot and they fell out again. I told my bf that no one is allowed to open the freezer until tomorrow when we leave.
Stupid frozen water bottles messin' up my kitchen.

That is so funny that you mentioned that because this morning, I opened the freezer and almost lost a toe! That would of sucked bad a day before the Roo!
I froze them all right side up, and after a near miss (caught a bottle in mid air), I had to restack them strategically on their sides to prevent further frozen bottle damage.

Just to revive an old thread... My best grrl had the greatest idea, that I continue to thank her for to this day. We cut up a whole watermelon, filled up plastic storage bags with the pieces, threw them in the cooler and had icy cold yummy watermelon all weekend long. Some of those mornings, that's all I needed. A breeze, shade, about 4-5 pieces of watermelon and a clif bar.
[ * Smokers - bring an ashtray! Every cigarette butt you throw on the ground, we have to pick up!!!!
Glad someone posted this as I had forgotten the ashtray! I only have glass ones so I'm bringing half of a coconut!
Alyroo had these awesome thingies at Echo... i forgot what the heck they were called but they worked well.. maybe she'll poke her head in and tell you what they were.

They are called Butt Buckets. I got them at Wally World for about a dollar each. They are made to fit in a drink holder...

Now I just need to start smoking, so I can buy cool little things like this ;D
Bananas Strawberries Apples Oranges Lots of Tuna packets (different flavors) tortillas for tuna sh*tload of beef jerkey pringles cereal bars and ham and cheese subs from subway (my gf works there)
I'm starving, so this is a perfect post right now.
The best best thing we brought were oranges - we ate all of them and gave them to neighbors who didn't bring food and were living off grilled cheese.
We brought fruit salad in ziploc baggies and that was a bad choice - by time we arrived it had become a soupy mush. Next time, separate fruits would be a better deal - there were whole cherries in the salad and they were fun to eat and spit the pits into a bag.
This year I think I'll do the rice/beans combo with some salsa. As a vegetarian, I sometimes wanted something hearty and was sick of chips and crackers and bits of cheese.
We bought a lot of our food; the prices are so reasonable outside of Centeroo (my gosh for like $5 we got a heaping plate of eggs and sauteed onions and potatoes just a block from our campsite - big enough for 2 people) that I think for '08 we may bring less meal-like stuff and more variety in regard to snacks (I couldn't eat chips for months after Bonnaroo because my party brought so many).
last year we had some two for one coupons for jersy mikes subs. i bought the subs and then divided the bread from the insides ( i didnt get any mayo or anything on it - brought packets) these sandwiches faired very well in the cooler and we ate those first. they were oh so good in the car while we were parked and we had enough left over to eat again a couple of more times.
i took a large sealed container of mac and cheese. it held up very well and we ate every bite of it.
we also took a lot of stuff to gril but it sounds like you want to take things that are ready to go and which wont need too much cooling. the grill was nice but you then have to deal with the clean up and all that. i, for one, didnt want to deal with eggs or anything messy like that - if you want that you can always buy some cheap around your camp or trade some beer for some at another camp. a bunch of guys near us had free pancakes each morning - of course most everyone gave them money or something for it...but they were very good!
you can find something to eat for little money if you look but its wise to bring some ready to go foods. you will want something at night or in the AM to get yourself going - and you will also want to be able to offer something to friends and neighbors.
im not sure anyone mentioned this one yet but - i brought a lot of GUM and some hard candy. it really came in handy with the dry air and long walks to roo. i hate dry mouth!
oh one more thing. if you plan to bring beer and no food - bring some heineken in cans. i bought some of this and everyone was asking me wher ei got it the whole time. i traded some for different things. i take it you cant get henie in cans in different parts of the country. it was very popular!
We're all going to a show - one show or the other. We also have to eat.... So, you have to balance the need to eat, the want of a show with the distance, energy and time required to travel between your camp food and the music. That said:
1) It is really hard to sleep late in the morning (see other threads). So, the mornings are the time you have to make a meal that will last a while. Breakfast buritos or whatever are good. But you have time, and will either be waking up or just rediscovering where your tent is.....
2) I've been to a couple of roo's. I really recommend AGAINST anything that will spoil, that HAS to be heated and is not able to be soaked in cooler water. Things like jello (dole Mandarins in Orange "gel"), Starkist tuna pouches, peanut butter, raisins, oranges work well. These items and water are great staples to have in camp (along with water).
3) I understand how people on tight budgets plan to save money by NOT buying vendor food. But, shakedown grilled cheese are $1 each. Your neighbors will have extra food (I promise) and will often feel that cold bottled water, unique beer or bottled juice will be a more than fair trade for a heaping plate of food.
4) If you cook breakfast, bring your own water, have a separate budget for beer, and plan on spending $12 a day for a lunch / dinner it will be less expensive for you to buy than to bring in for three days. (yes, you do have to check out the best deals for food, but some of the vendors have GREAT deals). ((Last year we played "best deal for a $1" on Sunday after lunch and after dinner. The idea is who can get the most food from a vendor for only a $1. We had a ball and ate like kings.)
5) You can get great deals from the vendors behind the WHAT stage as the show ends... they have food and know that everyone is about to leave.... So, for food, I'm just suggesting that if you spend more than $30 for food you will have at your camp vs. what you might buy (not counting water & other beverages) you had better be camped close or you will end up buying food while what is at your camp goes to waste. Or, you will be well fed on a budget and curse yourself for having missed the music you came to see!
