So it seems like as long as I arrive sometime Thursday from 10:00 to 4:00 I should get a decent spot... no more than a half an hour walk... as long as karma is somewhat on my side. That's okay... I guess I was just fearing a 50 minute walk. I can handle 30 minutes, and would love 5 minutes.
I'm driving all night Wednesday so I really have no idea when I'll arrive. I'm going to take my time. If I need to sleep an hour or two at a rest stop, I'll do it. If I can make it all through the night (10 hour drive from Pittsburgh), then I should be getting there around 7 (and hopefully grab breakfast, fill up on fuel, before getting in line). I'll probably poop out in Kentucky... nap for 2 hours, and then continue on a little later in the day on Thursday.

Last year we hit the line about 6:00am or so on Thursday morning.
I think we were in pod 3, can't remember the name of the camp for shit, but I do know that we were 1 row from the back of the VIP fence, and about 10 cars away from the avenue b/t vip and tent only.
We were planning on going to tent only, but with a spot that good, we just car camped it.
We're going to try and time our arrival to the gate to be the same time this year.

Anyone have a link or possibly a scan of the map of the campsites from last year...for all of us that didn't go last year we have no idea where Luke Skywalker or any other one was...TIA
The past 3 years I have arrived on WED around 7PM and normally gone straight to the line or hung out around Manchester for a bit before heading in. The past 3 years I have been within 50 yards of the same campsite from the previous year. We have been put in the back in Camp Oddjob. Not a bad area, little lengthy walk but its all good.

I'm still unsure where the fuck we were. I'm almost positive we were in Pod 6, Camp Roger Murdock, even though the map has it shaded as an RV area. I know we were back there, but I don't really remember there being day parking, too. It has seriously been bugging me since we left because I can't seem to find anyone who was camping there or nearby. Maybe I imagined the whole thing...

I got into Manchester around 3:30 AM stopped by wal mart was amazed at the number of people then figured screw this im getting in line now before the sun comes up. Drove right on in, had about a 15 minute wait and got right in, Ended up in BFE in uhh don't remember camp name but was Pod 1. 30 min walk, but it was fine with me.

Here is last years map. The picture is huge, so you can make out the names, but the file will take a while to load.
edit: it is also to big for ImageShack, so I guess I gotta use my own space. Click the image for the fullsize version
I need to doodle all over it this year. If there's something I know I'll want to remember but won't, for whatever reasons, I'll just put something on the map that will remind me.

'07- Left Atlanta around 5am. Got close to Manchester but only had a gallon or 2 of gas left at 8am. Stopped at the Wal-mart for some gas and some how convinced a cop to let us back on 24, so we in advertatly cut out 2 hours of traffic and where at Exit 112 by 9:00. Ended up in Camp Ed Rooney (15 min from Centeroo)
'08- Left ATL at 5am. Met our new '07 buddies at the Wal-mart at 8am. Cops had the return to 24 blocked so we had to go on some BACK roads just to end up off of Bushy Branch road (Exit 114?) Waited in line for 4 hours, Got in, ended up in Camp Dr. Rumack (about 15 min from Centeroo)
'09 - Leaving ATL at about 3am to arrive in Manchester by 6am, in hopes to get in line early and not to end up in BFE (No offense, I'm sure it's fun but the walk is not for me)
I'm thinking about leaving Chattanooga around 8 - 10 P.M. on Wed night which is normally when I am getting into Roo so maybe by that time the back part will be field up.
Well I wish we could all get alerted some how when it was full...
Yeah, I need an insider. Got some connections but nothing about that kind of work. I mean I have been in Oddjob the past 3 years which it is fine but I'd like a new view, just not miles away.

I cam from Knoxville on 55. Got in line on Busy Branch around 9:30 or 10. I was set up and drinking in camp Zoolander by 11:30. My other friends however cam in from Knoxville at about 3 am and were in DR. NO
Two years ago...arrived from Chatt. around 11ish, in line about 2.5 hours...placed near the front of Camp Peter Venkman aka #64. Last year arrived about 1ish, waited in line FOUR HOURS (because they quacking ran out of bracelets at out gate) but still wound up in the back of Camp Han Solo aka #9. About a 10 min. walk from both locations. Going to shoot for 11 or so again this year.
The only rule i hear repeated consistently is that if you show up Wed. night or first thing (like 3am) Thurs. morning you WILL end up in BFE.
"We're no longer called Sonic Death Monkey. We're on the verge of becoming Kathleen Turner Overdrive, but just for tonight, we are Barry Jive and his Uptown Five. "

I am beginning to think that is true but honestly I have never had longer than a 30 min wait and that is one of the best nights to just sit around and get twasted with all your new Bonna-friends. There is somewhat of a rush when you pull in and start claiming camping area and setting up your village and then finally to sit back with a nice cold beer and take it all in..

in '06 and '07 i arrived at the ROO on wednesday night around 10pm. we were allowed to exit i-24 at 111. we entered from bushy branch rd. our wait in line was no longer than 45 minutes each year. our camping spot was in the same area as well. i believe it was camp jaws. it was about a 15-20 minute walk to the arch. once they opened a side enterance, the walking time was cut in half.
in '08 i drove overnight and arrived in manchester sometime between 7a-8a. i had to drive all the way down to exit 127 where i turned around and headed back to the make shift exit near 112. my wait in line was somewhere around 2-2 1/2 hours. i was all set up in camp chewbacca buy 1145am. my walk was no more than 5-10 minutes.
Last year I came in by bus and a I ended up taking a taxi which dropped me off at the gate. I went in when the gates opened and after much confusion ended up being sent out to BFE. BFE wasnt that bad, the walk to Centeroo was about 30 minutes for me. It didnt make much of a difference to me because I basically spent all day in Centeroo and just took everything I needed with me. Only time I was at the campsite was when I was sleeping.
This year im driving down and I think I wiil go in on Wednesday night again this year. BFE to me sounds better then having to wait hours in traffic to get in, I look foward to just getting there Wednesday waiting less then an hour in line and getting my camp set up early. Another added benefit of getting their Wednesday was getting a good night of sleep which set me up pretty well for the rest of the weekend. This year I want to stop by Wal Mart and check out that scene before I head in though.
In '07 we left Atlanta around 3am, got in line on the interstate for the temp exit around 5:30, and were in Rusty Griswald unpacked and set up around 8:30.
In '08 we left Atlanta around 1am, got in line on the interstate at the temp exite around 4, and only waited an hour or so before the tollbooths... then we drove in and literally, as we were turning into the camps around Shakedown street (we were so pumped!!!), the 15 year old directing traffic stopped us, and made us turn the wheels back onto the road and we were directed past Shakedown, turned right at the RV parking (we started thinking...oh no), and sure enough we got parked in Camp M. at the time i was pissed. but as the day wore on, our neighbors were awesome, we had access to the centeroo shortcut, and there were taxis to drive us home at night. so it wasnt that bad.
that said - we got there crazy early last year, and were only one car away from being on Shakedown. So the trend says not to get there wicked early bc you'll end up in BFE, but it does happen. ...just hope you aren't being directed by a 15 year old.
