Hey everyone!!! This is my first time going to Bonnaroo (or a music festival for that matter) So I really need some pointers. What should I even wear? I've seen cotton shorts and skirts so far. Is there any more suggestions? Also, if you would know where's a good place to buy them at a reasonable price.
I know that this would be a total Attention Whore move, but I found a shirt on TshirtHell.com that says "I shaved my balls for this?" . I wanna wear this around Roo for a day
DO IT!! If I see you I'll run up and give you a hug or a high five.....and maybe fondle your smoothy balls
so this year is going to be my first roo and I'm super excited! but i have some questions, ok first i love my floral headbands but is there any way you girls protect your head from burning? After burning my scalp on vacations in the caribbean the last thing i want is for it to burn, but i don't want to put regular sunscreen or wear a hat? so if you girls have any suggestions on that would be great! Also i already have most of my clothes for roo (i know I'm a little crazy) but is it a bad idea wearing jean shorts or should i stick with dresses and skirts? Thank ya!!
I'm so with you and I haven't tried this out yet, but I stumbled upon it the other night and plan to bring it this year:

I wore my hair in pig tails with a bandana to protect my scalp where my hair was parted last year.

I am not a big fan of jean shorts at Bonnaroo but I think that it really depends on the person. I have never worn them yet (4 years in a row) but my friend wears jean shorts at least 1 day every year. I am a big fan of maxi skirts and tanks or some sort of dress if you want something shorter. I usually wear loose fabric pants at night (its been getting cold the past 2 years)
An example of the type of pants that I wear at night - usually with some sort of Minnetonka boot (I HATE when my feet get stepped on)

If your scalp tends to burn then try the spray for sure. I mean after the first day or so it's about protection and comfort so a little sunscreen in the hair will not be noticed. Protect that scalp! And wear dresses or skirts with some bike shorts . Target sells them. That was the best advice I took from this thread last year.
Welcome to The Girly Fashion Thread, lainey and chubs!
Figuring out what to wear to Bonnaroo can be kind of challenging. I recommend avoiding chafing at all costs so if that means wearing shorts, do it. If that means wearing bike short under dresses, do it! Bonnaroo is more about being comfortable to enjoy your weekend than about looking cute at all times.
As far as sun protection for your scalp I would definitely try a sport spray sunscreen with an SPF of at least 50. Or go the big floppy hat route (I'm a fan) and protect your whole head and probably your shoulders as well. As first timers, don't underestimate how intense the sun can get in the middle of a field in Tennessee. Wear sunscreen and wear clothing that isn't too constrictive. You want to be able to move and breath and avoid sunburns and heatstroke or other sun related health issues.
Oh i know, I've been to festivals where I am and I don't burn easily but the Toronto sun is definitely not as strong as Tennessee and the last thing i need is for my scalp to burn but yes I will definitely try out the spray thank you! I've never really dealt with the chaffing situation so I don't really know if it will be a problem so I guess it better to be safe than sorry. Do you guys have any ideas on where to get cute bags that have enough room for things?

It depends what you are trying to carry but I usually wear a backpack into Centeroo everyday. Target has great ones or urban outfitters might have some too. Mine ALWAYS get dirty so I try to find cheap ones or ones that I can wash easily - that way I don't have to worry if I set it down on the ground or something. I have a horror story for where I set my backpack one year when it was dark (it wasn't mud if you get my drift) sooo that sucked! But I like backpacks like this one from target
enough room for water bottles, sunscreen, snacks, ect.

For those worrying about their scalp burning, I spray sunscreen on my fingers and rub it into the part of my hair. It always works. Or wear a hat. I normally do not like hats, but I usually feel like I need one at Bonnaroo to shade my face, head, neck and shoulders. Get a large brimmed floppy one

I got this for Christmas and I think it's going to work great for Bonnaroo - their clothes are also awesome :
1. I always wear dresses with comfy shorts underneath. But whatever you find most comfortable. Comfort is numero uno!
2. I wear a big camelbak so it has all the carrying space I need. For nights or fests where I don't need my camelbak- I wear a fanny pack. @dreamingtre- That is an AWESOME backpack! I am always so jealous of your awesome Soulflower purchases/gifts!
3. IFFFF I have a part, I do what DreamingTree said- put it on my fingers and dab. That way there isn't too much gunk on the hair itself. However, I mostly put my hair all the way up in a bun or something- if there's no part, there's no skin to burn!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I suggest a backup bag. I usually bring both a drawstring backpack and a cross body purse. After a couple days of my backpack rubbing on my shoulders, I'm usually ready to trade it in for something different. I've bought many an emergency purse at festivals before I learned to just bring an extra.
Ps I also have a fanny pack I like to use when I'm not carrying a ton of stuff.

^^ Yup! I bring a knockoff Camelbak, crossbody, and fanny pack. I've found it to be the perfect combination, worth the space if you have it.

Like somebody else said.. It's mostly about what you're most comfortable in. I'm a big girl. I absolutely have to have loose fitting, flowing skirts and dresses. My sister is teeny tiny though and she wears jean shorts a day or two there. Even if you've never had a chafing problem, probably a good idea to bring something for it just in case (baby powder, gold bond, body glide). My sister was unprepared last year for the chafing she had never experienced before. Lucky for her, I was prepared!

The girls that I go with and I like to hit up thrift shops for our Bonnaroo clothes. Cheap enough that I don't care if it gets ruined. We always find awesome things.
I definitely recommend bringing bandanas, a hat.. things to protect your head too. I don't burn very easily but I used bandanas to cool down with.
Just a heads up for those looking for dresses... my local Walgreens has some awesome dip dyed and tie dyed flowy dresses! They are like $15 bucks! Not bad!

Yes! Thrift shops are my go to place for Roo clothes. I love only spending $2-$6 per outfit/dress. If it gets trashed, who cares?

The past couple of years Target has had these cotton shorts with a draw string that usually are some sort of fun pattern! I have bought every pattern that they have made for the past couple of years and I LOVE them for Bonnaroo (if even only for the first thing in the morning). I am hoping that they release some more this year! I would check out Target...(I always talk about Target in this thread, I just love it for Bonnaroo clothes!) This is one of the patterns of those shorts (I can't find a better picture)

Yessssss!!!! Just the reaction that I would be hoping for!
I don't do dresses or skirts... I expect it would be too dangerous with my careless placement of legs and whatnot. I wore a maxi skirt at FloydFest last year but it just got muddy and was in contact with probably every single surface of the portas, so I washed it twice and gave it back to Goodwill from whence it came.
This year: jorts. All jorts, all the time. Maybe a plaid shirt or two, a longsleeve flannel at night, but definitely flowy tank tops and low-impact sports bras. Also the shirt in my picture (super airy, and reads "CECI N'EST PAS UN T-SHIRT" - only one person last year was all like, "it is, too!")
I wear short sundresses and I am sure I am not always very ladylike, but I'm at Bonnaroo so I don't give a damn what anyone thinks I cannot imagine that jorts would be comfy in that heat.....

.....and the chafing! Yikes. Though I imagine women smaller than I probably don't have that problem. I'm a "tomboy" and not a dainty, ladylike flower, so capri leggings/bike shorts under my dresses come in handy. I kill 2 birds with one stone....not flashing my ladyparts and no chafing

Yeah I think in that heat, unless you are super thin, chafing happens. I am not thin, but I'm not overweight either and I never leave my tent without my Bodyglide!! I guess I don't really care about flashing lady parts, because I don't bother with shorts or leggings
