Hey everyone!!! This is my first time going to Bonnaroo (or a music festival for that matter) So I really need some pointers. What should I even wear? I've seen cotton shorts and skirts so far. Is there any more suggestions? Also, if you would know where's a good place to buy them at a reasonable price.
Thanks!
The past couple of years Target has had these cotton shorts with a draw string that usually are some sort of fun pattern! I have bought every pattern that they have made for the past couple of years and I LOVE them for Bonnaroo (if even only for the first thing in the morning). I am hoping that they release some more this year! I would check out Target...(I always talk about Target in this thread, I just love it for Bonnaroo clothes!) This is one of the patterns of those shorts (I can't find a better picture)
Those are cute! Thanks! I guess Target and the thrift store are my go-to places
I don't do dresses or skirts... I expect it would be too dangerous with my careless placement of legs and whatnot.
Meh. I'm not so ladylike either, but never really thought too much of it. Last fall, at Interlocken, one of my (male) festi crew mentioned that they've been seeing my undies for years. As long as its my undies and not my lady bits, I don't really care. It's just underwear. I see a lot more than that around most fests.

First time going to Bonnaroo this June, and I've been trying to figure out exactly what I should wear, where I'm from, it doesn't get super hot in the summer and I usually go all summer wearing jeans and a tshirt, which I'm pretty sure isn't going to cut it in Tennessee in the middle of June!
SO. So far, my plan is to buy a couple of sarongs, I already have one that I love, but it was expensive and I love it so not going to bring that one. Ones like these:
And then I was planning on wrapping them up as a halter dress, or possibly a skirt with a tank top or something.
Probably just going to bring a bunch of bikini tops and bike shorts for underneath.. I don't plan on packing a single bra.
So what do you think?! Do you think I'll make out okay during the day with this? Any other suggestions?

I think it's a good idea. I really like the 2nd pattern

That looks like a neat idea. Bikini tops and bike shorts are the way to go for sure.
Test run the sarongs for a day! Do you find yourself fidgeting with it? Retying it because it has become loose or something is bothering you? Does it get in the way when you move a certain way? If the answer is yes to any of those, don't wear it. In 2010 I wore a dress that the thin straps got stretched out. They kept slipping off my shoulders. I was so annoyed by it I was actually getting angry. Comfort is first- looking cute is second! If you feel very confident that it won't bother you, won't slip and slide, etc. Go for it!!
My second thought is that even if it works great, don't pack ONLY those. As a general rule, I wouldn't pack one style of anything- I always pack dresses with cap sleeves, sleeveless, thin straps, etc. As well as different shoes- sanuk sidewalk surfers, sanuk yogamat flips, birks, etc. Someone even just said (Clairity?) that she brings two style bags. You don't want to get stuck with something not working for you for whatever reason, but have nothing else. Ex. A sunburn in a certain spot, blisters on one part of your foot, chaffing from your bag, etc..
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Ditto to everything bonzai said. Variety is good because you never know how the weather and conditions will be until you're in it. LovelyCreature, I'm originally from Maine but I live in Alabama now and you're absolutely right that jeans aren't going to cut it for summer in the south. The sarongs seem like a good idea just make sure they're comfortable and not too finicky while walking and dancing a lot.

That's actually a good idea, giving the sarong a test run for a day here at home to see how comfortable I find it. The trouble is going to be finding weather that's hot enough for me to walk around like that for a day lol. I might have to hit the beach at the beginning of June and hope it's warm enough by then
I'll definitely be bringing some other options for sure though, tank tops, baggy light tee shirts, shorts etc. Packing space isn't really an issue because I'll be driving my extended cab pickup truck with just three of us in it.. I have a feeling I'm going to WAY over-pack but... I feel like that's the best way to go, considering it's my first time and I've got lots of space.

Yes, overpack! And maybe bring a sports bra or two. As others have said, you may end up with a sunburn and the bikini tops may no longer be comfortable.

You could always try to test run on a Saturday that you're not doing much. Try cleaning your house in it, lying around on the couch, then have a few adult beverages and have a mini dance party

Bike shorts. I got a bunch for super cheap at H&M last year. I wore them under a dress every day last year. No chafing, still got a nice breeze between my legs, and I got to lay in the grass with my legs bent up.

I've always kind of wondered about this. I've never gone the bike shorts route because I worry I'll lose that breeze factor and will just have an extra layer of sweaty material clinging to me. Do y'all use wicking bike shorts? Can you tell a difference with different kinds?

Yes the bike shorts allow for all sorts of sitting and laying positions otherwise not possible with a dress. I was pretty thankful to be wearing them when i fainted at a show (dehydration...see the camelback thread) and woke up all splayed out!

I've tried yoga shorts, comfy type pjs shorts, regular workout shorts and bike shorts. Bike shorts are my fave is a basic sense because they are longer. Still breezy though. Those whole "wicking" and "breathing" factors. I generally stay away from bike shorts because they tend to be longer than my dresses. I have no problem when others rock that look, but I'm not a fan. Especially because they're always dark dreary colors which just look absurd next to my bright, flowery and funky dresses. I have a tendency to these yogaesque shorts. They are all little shorter though and on really hot days, still allow for chaffing if not paired with gold bond or something.

The h&m ones I have are made from similar material as leggings. They weren't as long as typical bike shorts but long enough to prevent chafing. They were lightweight and comfy.

I bring two kinds. The first are the sport, sweat wicking ones that you could go running in all by themselves. The others are like a legging type material. Both are C9 by Champion from Target.
I need hat advice. Every year I bring a broad brim hat and it gets trashed. I'm wondering if my expectations are too high. Should I only expect it to last through the fest?

^^Yes, definitely the wicking kind! Target has sales on them fairly often, or you could try Marshalls/TJ Max. I have tried cotton bike shorts and men's boxer briefs, but the wicking bike shorts are by FAR the most comfortable/breathable. Just make sure the legs are long enough to cover your thighs.

Mine always get too squished to survive more than one Roo, but that's because I'm careless with them. I shove them in my camelbak. Oops. I do highly recommend at a hat to everyone though! You don't realize how much the sun is in your eyes (through the top of sunglasses even) until you have the shade of a hat over your face. I had a big floppy one year and it got so floppy that it was annoying. The other two years I had smaller brimmed straw hats that were perfect.
As far as dresses, I wore a long dress one day last year and I spent the whole day lifting the bottom because it was in my way. Super annoying. I eventually lifted it up and knotted it haha. Most of my dresses fall just above the knees, but I'd like something maybe calf length. I'm afraid to start shopping because I know I won't be able to stop.
ooh. a pic showing the too-long dress, the perfect hat, and me pretending to vomit...?

I have two hats that I bring with me (both from Target, of course haha). One is a big floppy straw hat that protects my head, face, shoulders and chest from the sun and then the other is a straw fedora that I'm in love with. Nothing ever happens to them at Roo. I just leave them on the dash of my car when I'm not wearing them and I did have to rinse the fedora with water when I got home last year bc it got dusty but that's it.
Madeline, that dress is legit though, I love it! With my long maxis I usually end up knotting them on the side but I mostly wear knee length sundresses.

Yep I expect mine to get trashed and they don't usually survive one Bonnaroo. I scrunch them up in my bag, sit on them, etc. I usually pick one up at Target for around $15 so it's ok if I throw it in the trash after Roo. I got my $15 worth if it kept me cool
Back to a topic from a few pages back, leggings! This site has some really cool, semi-wild leggings for $20 perfect for Roo - or whenevs. Plus, I met one of the guys from this company over the summer at multiple festivals, and he's a pretty awesome cheesehead.
I'm definitely going to check that out, thanks! I asked this a few pages back but I am not sure if I got a response. Does anyone here have "one size fits most" leggings? I get that leggings are stretchy, but it still sounds scary.

I bought a pair from a cute shop in Athens, GA once and I have a pair from a local vintage store. Not my favorite. I just cant get the fit to be right. I feel like the waist (width) to leg (width) ratio doesn't work on my body.
On another note, I think large flamboyant glasses are mandatory this year. My search has begun.
ABSOLUTELY!
If you want super real looking fake Ray Bans, try ioffer.com. They come from China and take about a month to get to your house, but you seriously can't tell the difference between the fakes and the real ones...and they're only, like $15.00 each. I've bought real Ray Bans and they are worth buying for everyday, but I would be bummed out if I lost them or ruined them at Roo. I order 2 or 3 pairs from ioffer.com before ROo every year in a bunch of styles. If I lose them, so what?

Is there a big quality difference between those and the real ray bans you have? In terms of clarity and how good they block out sunlight
