Moving has made me realize how bad my cardio sucks, but just walking from place to place should be enough, i've never had a problem with the walking in the past.

yeah, cliff builders are pretty fantastic. been my breakfast staple for like, 2 years now.
im sure youve had them, but detour bars are pretty awesome too. but both of these have a fair amount of carbs - if that's a concern for you. i love the cookies and cream one, but no one ever has them. and the new almond ones are good. i just picked up a rack of detour bars at bj's yesterday. i should just go to the stupid nutrition store to see what's new / hot and delicious.
Never had a Detour bar, but I'll definitely check them out next time I have to re-up. And carbs aren't a concern for me. I mean, if you're gonna spend the energy, you're gonna need a source.

For those who take supplements... what have you been taking (besides vitamins)? I've been switching off between these:
Creatine is bad. It will increase muscle mass but does not do anything to your connective tissue. You'll have strong, bulky muscles, and weak tendons and ligaments. That's just begging for surgery. If you want to bulk up the right way, go with carbs before a workout and low-fat protein after. Egg whites and fish. Red meat can work really well if you only eat it once or twice a week, since it takes a really long time to digest.

i'm new here and still getting into the swing of this whole jumping into threads thing, so bare with me.
i was pretty concerned about the whole getting into shape for bonnaroo thing for two reasons: a) i want to be able to walk around without getting wiped out and b) i want to look awesome in my bikini top (oh, the vanity of being a girl ). as for my work out i take 2 dance classes a week for my cardio and such and i also do a series of crunches to tighten up those abs. i've also been trying out this carmen electra striptease workout. i guess we'll see how that turns out. haha

Sounds to me you're talking about steroids, not creatine. Creatine will not give you any amazing gains, really all it does is aid in the recovery of your muscles, its not some magical bulking supplement. Also, carbs post workout is a must. And protein is protein, red meat will not take significantly longer to digest than chicken or fish. Your post workout should be be a high carbs/pro meal.

^^And it's one of the only times when you should choose primarily simple sugars rather than complex. That's why fruit/protein shakes are so good for you after workouts.

Exactly, my pwo shake is just two scoops protein two scoops waxymaize. The fast acting carbs also will spike your insulin levels increasing the uptake of any other nutrients you have (or creatine). Thats why those expensive creatine transportation systems are rip offs, just take it with a glass of grape juice and its the same thing.

I think you're off on this. I've had numerous people, including professional trainers and physical therapy students tell me otherwise. (I played Division I baseball) Creatine doesn't increase muscle mass at the rate of steroids, which relates more to what you're talking about. The general consensus seems to be that no one's sure if it really works or not.
*edit* I hadn't seen the other responses when I typed this, but it's still the same answer...

I never understood people who work out "under the influence". I mean, when you exercise, it releases endorphins, producing a 'runners high' anyways. Anything else is a good way to get injured or at least minimize you're effectiveness.
edit: although, stretching under the influence feels awesome!

hey everyone i just found this post while browsing through the boards. i cant wait for bonnaroo this year it should be a blast. quick question though, and it mightve been answered already in this post. is anyone interested in starting a running/jogging group at bonnaroo. im a pretty serious runner and the past two years at bonnaroo ive taken those days off but this year i really want to get a group of people together and do a run every morning if possible. would there be any interest to this? we could even start our own running club and get t-shirts!

I always say that I'll work out at Roo, but the truth is that Roo itself is the workout for me. After dancing, sweating and imbibing 17 hours/day, I don't have it in me to go for a run. Besides, I'm on it six days a week all year long so Roo is a good break.

On another note for you hard core trainers... Its a good idea to take a week off for around every 8-10 weeks of hardcore training... It helps your body fully regenerate for another few weeks of hard training...
Post by jray05stang on Apr 8, 2008 17:19:23 GMT -5
Guess it depends on your PT... Mine says taking a full week off from almost everything wont hurt quarterly... Maybe minimal cardio 3 times a week on a week off but no added stress to weight training... your body really needs that week to heal after a good 8 weeks of extreme training... just make sure on that week off you dont take a week off from your healthy diet

I just can't do the hardcore training! MOF I have hard time getting motivated to work out at all unless it is something fun I would be doing anyway.
ditto for me. i'm having a hard time getting myself motivated to go to the gym as i type. i'd rather get my exercise hiking or horseback riding or biking

I either Run or Bike every day... I raced BMX for years and do a good bit of mountain biking in my college town... Biking is by far my favorite.

There was someone on here last year who wanted to do this...stick around, and someone will probably turn up who'll want to run with you. I really would, but I abuse my mind and body too much at Bonnaroo to get up in the morning and run around. Seems like it would be an awesome way to see a lot more of the campground area, though.

Since i train to failure i usually take a week or two 'off' when i feel the need (generally 7-10 week range), but i really basically just warm up like i was gonna do my workset and stop, just to get blood in the muscle. If you take a week off from lifting i suggest going and doing lightweight stuff, if not just to stay in the rhythm, but it will also help keeping from losing even a small amount of muscle.

See the turtle of enormous girth, on his shell he holds the earth. ;D Erie, I just read that part like yesterday.
Gnarly, you're reading Dark Tower? Did you just remember seeing my signature, or is that still showing up for you?...because I changed it not so recently.
I guess you'd be on...The Wastelands? I can't remember if they talked about that rhyme in the previous two books.

It was the Skoldpadda that reminded me, that was just mentioned, around page 200 of Song of Susannah. I'm now on 310 about, I just moved and dont have a tv or computer.
Oh, awesome, you're already at the skoldpadda part. That little turtle's awesome. Things are coming to a close now, though... Excellent story from the modern pop novel master, even if I have issues with the series in a literary sense. The last two books (and Drawing of the Three) were my favorites, I think. Wizard and Glass was good, too.
I used to kinda shrug at my friends for reading the Dark Tower seies, but once I started I was sucked in. I'm not sure if you've read It, but he also talks about the turtle a bit in that novel. It's his finest work, in my opinion, but my opinion doesn't mean much these days...ask my boss.
