I would say MMJ in studio does not due them justice just from what I've heard from some of their live stuff (especially last year @ roo). But I would disagree that Wilco in studio isn't great. I saw Wilco this past year front row, and it was a rocking show, but I love their studio stuff as well, especially some of their older albums (before YHF and A Ghost is Born).
^^^I like some of the stuff off of 'Being There'. I've always preferred Farrar to Tweedy though. I'm a big Uncle Tupelo fan.
I agree with you about MMJ though. I think maybe they try for their studio stuff to sound too much like their live stuff. I like the live bootlegs that I've heard though. I missed the Bonnaroo set last year which was one of my major regrets upon hearing the bootleg...

I cannot put into words how important a record YHF is...and Ghost is also great. I would say I actually prefer Wilco in the studio. They just don't seem to recreate the blips. static and "noise" like, say, Radiohead.

I'd absolutely have to 2nd that emotion regarding MMJ live - it is an experience. However the setlists don't seem to change a whole lot.
Wilco on the other hand - I saw them for the first time on the AM tour and for my money they have made a bizarre turn. Back in the mid-90's I completely loved their live stuff over anything I had heard come out of the studio - then Summerteeth and YHF really made me reconsider that. I'll still catch Tweedy if he's in the area, but if I'm going to listen to live wilco it's going to be an older show.

I just saw a cold war kids video on mtv2 last night. I just thought its cool they were getting the exposure. They're actually at the top of my list to see right now, and i hadnt even heard of them till they were announced, thank you bonnaroo.

Seriously? Wow. Check out Kicking Television. Amazing live album, and it is mostly newer stuff.
Two years in a row now Bonnaroo bands have put out stellar live albums (both double discs to boot!):
2005:Wilco's Kicking Television 2006:My Morning Jacket's Okonokos
Let's just hope more bands start putting out quality live albums like the aformentioned ones, and not just something thrown together to appease a record company.
The Mars Volta are due for a real live album of a single show (hopefully double disc). With Radiohead's new album coming out soon, maybe the Bonnaroo show will see the light of day soon (probably 2008).
Itd be cool if radiohead released the bonnaroo show at the same time they release their new album.
Don't hold your breath. I know Thom said they would like to release the dvd, but they tend to be very slow about that sort of thing. Example: the Astoria dvd, which took 10+ years to release, and how, despite them playing a lot of the songs live for over a year now, they're still in the studio recording their new record.
Perfectionism can be a pain at times, but in the end, it's worth it.

I talked to the Mutemath guitarist and he said they were playing this year and said it would be a tent but not sure which one. If you haven't checked Mutemath out they are a great live band their cd really doesn't do them justice. They played last year but i think in like the Troo Music Lounge.
Excellent. Thanks for the heads up, I actually like their CD's but I've missed them live each time they've come through town. I'll be doing my very best to see them.
I love em. havent seen them live yet outside of videos which all look amazing. We were gonna catch them in Charlotte a while back but didnt feel up to it then they just came back through but the tickets were outrageous.

It is a great live show. I have seen them about 5 or 6 times and they have a great energy. I asked about Bonnaroo after their show and they told me how they about pissed their pants cause they got to see radiohead up close.

...furthermore, Thom mentioned that the reason they had not yet released the Roo dvd was beacuse of the new material. In that context, I could see it released near the time of the album.

The DVD did take a long time to get released, but they originally released the VHS right around the time that they released The Bends.
I wouldn't expect them to release their Bonnaroo DVD until 2008. I really hope I'm wrong.
anyway that we could get a review of who's confirmed? I see the first bunch, but I don't really want to look through all 30 odd pages to find any others.
PS: radiohead is finally getting some serious work done on their new album so the DVD should be reasonably soon, but that's in Radiohead time, so who knows.
spindlest - probably not. the rest of the ones mentioned would most likely be seen as nothing more than speculation. that's not to say anyone here is a liar, but at the same time, anyone could log on here and say that their best friend's dog is friends with so and so who told them that the flaming grundlescabs were gonna be at bonnaroo, but that doesn't mean it's true.

I called it!! But seriously that's awesome, there were so many asses packed into that tiny tent for their show, and that band took their time to kick every one of them.

What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
I'm suprised Radiohead would release their performance considering all the video problems they had throughout the show. Their BSOD will look crappy on DVD.
i was right under the screen that fucked up at bonnaroo 06 during the first part of radioheads set, i remember when it went out the guys that were up there on the laptop started freaking out and kept trying to fix it then hanging their heads out and lookint to see if it was back on, eventually like a whole team of people were up there under the left screen (the one that kept cutting off) trying to get it to come back on, i remember thinking whoever was in charge of the screens was shitting his pants up there, anyway, fun stuff
