I don't think Tom Waits would be a headliner. Don't get me wrong I LOVE his music but he's really more of a cult artist and as far as the mainstream is concerned Pearl Jam and Bob Dylan would probably get larger crowds. I think Tom Waits would be perfect in a late night spot, sort of taking the place of Dr. John.
Yeah, I know he's no real Tom Petty in terms of radio play and such, but his tours are so rare that an appearance at Roo would be a pretty special one.

Tom Waits' last tour sold out almost instantly. Now, not to say that means he should be a headliner, but given the rarity of his touring I think he could be one. Do I think he ends up headlining? No way. I bet the only headliner that could come out of that leak would be Pearl Jam. I like the idea of MMJ leading into PJ too, that seems quite likely. If Waits is at the fest though, expect him to be either on the largest stage directly before a headliner (like Beck last year) or delivering an unbelievable late night set (like the Dr. John comment that has already been made).
Yep, I was just gonna mention that exit. I was reading about his last tour and 2,000 seat venues were selling out in 20 minutes, as fast/faster than the Bonnaroo presale went.
He did close out his tour with a 1:30 show in Akron, so if he played late night it would be amazing.

if waits and primus are both plakying bonnaroo i'd bet that they'd share a latenight main stage set. first half waits, second half primus. les coming out for a lot of waits songs. that would make me explode

I think you nailed it poop, mannnn...I guess we can only wait and hope and dream. Tom Waits and Nick Cave were my two big "Pipe Dreams" for 'Roo this year. If Waits is seriously there, wow. I just can't get over how fricken amazing that would be, especially if you pair him with Primus. Dang!

Could this really be the lineup? I am skeptical as the rest, but DAMN!!!! 'Roo 2006 was the perfect lineup for my taste, but this "leak" is just as good if not better... In terms of headliners, it think it's all there, Pearl Jam on Friday and ARCADE FIRE on Sat. You get the kick ass american rock on Friday in place of Petty and the jaw-dropping art of Arcade Fire on Sat in place of Radiohead. Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse, The Shins will all be touring in support of new records and none have dates the conflict with 'Roo 07. Plus Dylan, Trey, Tom Waits?!! If AC/Superfly pull this lineup off it'd really be something special. I know it's short on jambands, but I wouldn't have it any other way...see you in June.

Arcade Fire, though they are probably one of the greatest live bands in the world right now, will not headline Bonnaroo in 2007. They simply do not have the draw necessary to garner a headlining slot. They don't have enough material to pull it off either, the new album is only 11 tracks long, and one of the tracks comes from their debut EP. I could see them playing a similar slot as Beck/Oysterhead at best.
the only headliner in that announcement is Pearl Jam. Tom Waits YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! If this is part of the lineup then doing early bird was the greatest decision of my life. Holy shit that is such a fantastic lineup. I want to see Pearl Jam there a lot. Would love to see the Chili Peppers there as well, but I don't think 2 of the 3 headliners would be PJ & RHCP, but hey i can dream right?

Agreed. Just don't understand how people can seriously think a band like Arcade Fire can headline this year. Don't get me wrong, I like these guys, they put on a cool show, but headlining is just out of the question.

Seriously, y'all, you're preparing yourselves to be heartbroken. I think all of those artists have some likelihood of being there (even Waits, who despite his rare live appearances is a perfect fit for the fest). But statistics, logic and reason all argue how unlikely it is that all of those artists WILL be there. Here's one of my biggest reasons for remaining very skeptical: if someone gained access to the initial lineup and then decided to post it on Wikipedia for all the adoring roovians to see, why the hell would he/she only post a section of the information they had (as alluded by the phrase, "The lineup included") instead of posting the whole damn thing? But here's the even bigger question: if this is just a re-posting of info that leaked "onto the internet" elsewhere... where exactly was that? When we get leaked info about artists, we always know where it came from, be it jambase, pitchfork, myspace, the artist's site, or elsewhere. But with this presumably huge scoop, the original source is completely absent. To me that screams fake.
God, please show me a sign that I'm wrong. Please.
I wouldn't think so. Historically he's big, but I don't see why he would come back and headline a growing, changing festival three years after he didn't headline. Even though his album did debut at number 1 (it did, didn't it?) overall he hasn't jumped in the public focus enough to have grown to headlining, given he tours all the time. In a fantasy world where this wasn't just a fake, then the gods would shine on us and give us Bob Dylan>Tom Waits. I'd pay $120+ just to see that.
Dylan, while being my favorite artist of all time, wouldn't headline. He didn't last time. And he couldn't fill the 3 hr timeslot with his current shows. He usually plays 14 songs.

Ok, so perhaps it's wishful thinking for Arcade Fire to headline. And an early evening, Beck-type slot would be phenomenal as well. But while the draw may not be that of Radiohead or a festival headliner, the Roo lineup has been greared toward the next big thing, and I for one, think that this is Arcade Fire's year. The show is absolutely intense. For anyone who doubts their ability to beat ass, check this out....hope the link works, let me know if not.

While bonnaroo is geared towards the next big thing, they dont put those bands as their headliners, because why do it when theres more deserving bands. I'd personally like to see arcade fire with a late night set way more then a headliner. Also, i agree out of that list pearl jam is the only one that could be a headliner. To headline you have to be popular enough, AND be able to play that long of a set, which is the other big bands on that lists problem, like a bob dylan.
No way arcade fire headlines. as others have said, they're not popular enough and they couldn't keep it going for that long with that big of a crowd. I'm not saying they're not good, but come on 80,000 people at the best festival in America, NO WAY. Also Dylan couldn't headline he didn't even sell out a 9,000 seat venue in ATL on his last tour. Honestly he wasn't that great live. A legend? Of course. Live abilty at 60 something years old? Not so hot. If he can't sell out a 9,000 seat venue in ATL no chance he headlines Bonnaroo. This isn't a full guess at the intial announcemnt so they other headliners could be in the 30 some -odd bands that are missing from the Wikipedia rumor.
I hope this rumor is true! I can't f'ing wait for the announcement!

I don't think Dylan would headline, but to be fair with Phil & Friends there is precedence of an act not headlining one year and then headlining in a later year.
I've always enjoyed Bob Dylan live. I've seen him a bunch of times and I've always had fun and enjoyed a good show. His band is really good, his voice is hit or miss, but I always enjoy it.

Ziggy, good call about the Arcade Fire on the late night set. It would be phenomenal, as long as MMJ still rocks a late night set. MMJ was unreal late night 06....
I think a reason I seriously doubt the "leak" is that the Cold War Kids, the John Butler Trio, and Lily Allen are all listed. Now I'm not saying that these three aren't fairly well known and good musicians, but they aren't THAT well known except to someone who's been on the internet looking around a lot. They aren't big enough to catch someone's eye I wouldn't think.
I saw Tom Waits in '06, the venue sold out within *5* minutes of the tickets going on sale, and he put on a very, very long set. I'd love to see him there. Headliner, though?
Anyone heard the new Nick Cave album, Grinderman? Hot damn... but he doesn't seem to play the US very often.
