Your not allowed on planes in alot of countries if your name is Islam.
Kinda weird aye?
Actually I think his inclusion on the list is probably the result of someone holding his rather controversial public condoning of past terrorist acts against him.
^^^You should read up on him. I have very mixed feelings about giving my money to any event involving Yusef. I have very strong feelings about freedom of speech.

I agree. Bonnaroo(or me for that matter) has no want of people who dislike someone based on their religious, political or social views.
It's a shame. He was once such a great singer/songwriter.

I can't see Yusef Islam at the Roo...with the no planes and newfound reputation as a terrorist. He probably won't come to America, particularly TN, for fear of being lynched by people who get their politics from Fox News....

I expected to hear rumors for Bloc Party at the Roo. They have a new record out and seriously rock live... I'm also getting pumped for Girl Talk DJing late night. Here's a link for those of you who haven't heard his stuff.....
Definately party music...Looks like a good time... Did you have your Arcade Fire this morning????
I gotta call BS on this one. I have looked everywhere I could and have not been able to find a single thing about him supporting terrorism. None at all. My mom was/is a huge folkee and I called her and she said hell no. there was a thing she mentioned about him being accused of supporting the fatwa on Salman Rushdie. And I have been able to find info on that everywhere. Can any of you can show any actual proof of his supposed support of terroism?
Stevens became a convert to Islam in 1977 and in 1979 adopted the name Yusuf Islam, leaving his music career to devote himself to educational and philanthropic causes in the Muslim community. A decade later, controversy arose when he was reported to have made comments that seemed to support a fatwa calling for the death of author Salman Rushdie, but later stated that he had been misinterpreted. He publicly and vehemently condemned the September 11 attacks and 7 July 2005 London bombings, saying they were not consistent with the teachings of the religion of Islam, and mourned the loss of life. In 2004, he returned to the public eye when he was denied entry into the United States after his name appeared on a no-fly list.[2] He successfully sued British newspapers for libel because of their reports on this incident.[3]
Yusuf Islam returned to the pop music world in 2006, recording and actively promoting his first pop music album of new songs in 28 years, the album is entitled "An Other Cup". He lives with his wife and five children in London and spends part of each year in Dubai. He was given several peace prizes for promoting international social justice and peace, including the Man for Peace award and the "Mediterranean Prize for Peace" award.
I think he meant because he was put on the watch list accidentally and actually stopped in an airport in the last year or two. I remember the news bit on it.
Back on topic now-- any other leaks anyone's seen? Usually the smaller bands and comedians are the ones to let it drop early...
Yusuf was mistakenly stopped from entering the country because a man with alleged terrorist ties had the same name, with a different spelling- "Youshuf Islam" I believe, or something along those lines.
In regard to his political views, like others have stated, he takes a hard-line stance against Islamic extremism and violence. He has in the past, and continues today, to both write about and promote causes that support peaceful efforts.
Just last week (Jan. 4), he was awarded the Mediterranean Prize for Peace, a prize that is awarded to artists and figures who "contribued with their actions to reduce tensions and promote peace".
And, if all that isn't enough, the man wrote 'Peace Train' for pete's sake! He would be a perfect vibe for Bonnaroo, and I think an appearance would be the perfect way to clear up the misconstructions held by many of the American public, not to mention introduce a legendary singer-songwriter to a new generation. He just released his first album of new material in November, so the timing couldn't be much more perfect.

How is supporting a fatwa on Salman Rushdie NOT supporting terrorism? And his comments weren't misinterpreted. First, he said he supported it. Then he said if Rushdie came to his door, he might call up people who would do much worse to him (Rushdie) than he would be willing to do. Then he hid behind Islamic law by saying he was just explaining what other muslims might do which given his previous two statements is utter bullshit. Terrorism isn't just about acts against a state. It's the way those in power enforce rules. Threatening death for creating a work of art that dissents against the popular view is not grounds for assassination in my book. And any artist that supports that ideology has lost touch with his own calling.

Not that I know of...it seems Superfly is keeping things tightly under wraps this year.
^^^Rumors have it being anywhere between Jan. 30 to Feb 14 when tickets are supposed to go on sale. Most people are putting Feb. 7 as a target date. However, it could be a week earlier, it could be a week later. Those things are never set in stone with festivals.

Thanks Dude, no pun intended... You going to this years Roo; I've been to the last two and planning on this year...I went in a RV last year and plan too again this year. Also to get back on the thread....
I thought they said earlier in the post that the John Butler Trio and The Cold War Kids were a go....
I'm hoping to go. We'll see. I live in Austin (ACL, SXSW), so Roo has to offer something tantalizing to justify me dropping the half grand the trip ends up costing when all is said and done. If the Tom Waits rumors have any validity, then I'm there.
As for the JBT and CWK, they will be there. The confirmations stemmed from postings each group made on their sites before what we guess was Superfly telling them to take it down. Happy accident if you will.

Well, put 'zer. You seemed to know what was up on YI from the first mention.... And the Hold Steady?! Saw 'em in Louisville, KY in a a bar...amazing show! Encore finished with 50 kids from the crowd onstage, Craig Finn passing his guitar to random fans onstage!!! Absolutely sick! But will that atmosphere translate for 30 to 50 thousand you can find in "That Tent"? I can't wait to see...

Yes. That message fired me up. I would give my left big toe to see them play a late nite set. They were so good at Lolla early on a hot afternoon in a very limited amount of time. Saw them again at a smaller venue and they just tore the place apart. Great stuff

Chi town is the shit, Wiz!!! And being from there, I could see why you dig HS. Chicago catches sooo much progressive music... I could see HS perfectly filling an afternoon set and just getting the crowd rowdy!!! Imagine Hold Steady> MMJ...
