I got some great news straight from the horses mouth. In a recent interview with an italian fansite Omar revealed a bunch of great news.
- As I posted previously, the new TMV record will be entitled "The Bedlam in Goliath". Omar is currently mixing it at his new home in NYC, and it is slated for a September release.
- Say he still talks with Jon on occasion, but still maintains that he was a very lazy bandmate and was only there to collect his pay. He then goes on to praise Thomas and his desire to play with the band. "He's just amazing, very professional. He loves being here, he loves what he's doing. It's not the situation we had with Jon Theodore where he essentially didn't like the band but he liked getting payed and he never wanted to play, he was lazy... Thomas would play anytime, anywhere, all day, for 4 hours... He loves the music, loves the band so he's excited."
- There will be a new live record coming out by the end of the year covering material from the FTM and Amputechture tours.
- Accompanying that will also be a pro-shot DVD from one of the Aussie gigs with Thomas on drums.
- Shortly after that there will be another DVD covering the history of the band. "One film I've been working on for a while which is just, you know, it's a very personal film it's all the history of the band and all that footage that I shot in the studio when I'm working and I rehearsal and then our time spent together on tour. It's just the whole history of the band so there is Jeremy and different people that has been in the band."
- After long deliberation he has decided to (at some point) release both A Manual Dexterity Part 2 (Soundtrack), and the full length film "A Manual Dexterity".
- Hopes that a solo effort featuring Zach Hill of Hella will finally be released by years end.
- Also hopes to release another solo record by years end that has been described as "more electronic", and "acid jazz". Says it is in completion, and was hoping for an August release.
- Has numerous recordings of a band consisting of himself, John Frusciante and Flea that he hopes they can all complete in the near future.
- A completely re-worked version of Rapid Fire Tollbooth with new lyrics will appear on The Bedlam in Goliath. Omar says it is one of his favorite TMV tunes.
- He has already begun work on TMV LP 5. Stated that he begun work on LP4 during Amputechture.
Well, there's the news. Probably the single largest chunk of TMV news we've ever gotten. Looks like we've got a lot to look forward to. Now begins the lobbying for TMV @ Bonnaroo next year. You all know what you must do.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
Saw this interview on The Comatorium when it first was released in English. The one thing that surprised and excited me the most since I already knew the album was going to be released in either August or September was this.
"TMVI. Are there any special guests you would like to become part of The Mars Volta band, even for what regards tours?
O. Oh, I mean that's a matter of imagination! Of course I would have love Alice Coltrane to be part of The Mars Volta but she passed away, you know. And Ornette Coleman…And… The list could go on and on there's a lot of people that I feel could be part of The Mars Volta."
If Ornette Coleman toured with TMV, that would be so kickass. I hope TMV comes to Atlanta this upcoming tour.
Well the Comatorium, The Mars Volta's forum is OFFLINE, and the Mods said when news comes in for the new album, they were going to delete all of the threads speculating about the album since they all got out of hand. Hopefully this is the case. All the secrecy surrounding the new album is killing me.
well, you ask me why i'm drunk all the time it levels my head and eases my mind i just walk along and stroll and sing i see better days and i do better things

Well that never transpired. HOWEVER, GoldStandardLaboratories'(TMV's record label) website has a notice on the news section:
GSL will be closed July 26-July 31.
Hopefully this means on August 1st we will get info about the new TMV album and tour. *fingers crossed*
One could only pray... I'd hate to think the kind of state I'd be in if Omar wouldn't have released his solo album to hold me over. I'm having a hard enough time as it is holding my composure.

Supposively Omar is releasing another solo effort. This is from the GSL site:
OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ will be releasing a collaboration with the infamous LYDIA LUNCH later this summer on the Dutch label Willie Anderson Recordings (who released his self-titled "yellow" album in 2005). The EP, simply titled "Omar Rodriguez Lopez & Lydia Lunch", is similar format-wise to Omar's collaboration with DAMO SUZUKI - a single, extended track punctuated by Lunch's sharp-tongued spoken word poetry. It will be available on vinyl and CD.
Oh, I missed that. Ha. If TMV were to come to Atlanta(they better), I hope they play at The Variety Playhouse. They are known for their love of smaller venues, so The Variety Playhouse would be perfect.

^Even if they aren't added to the Echo line-up, I'm sure they'll hit Atlanta. If they play at The Variety Playhouse.....well, I don't know what I'd do. But I would definitely be right against the stage with the biggest f*cking smile imaginable on my face!
Even though it doesn't matter who plays at Variety, if you get there an hour before the doors open, you will get right up to the stage. To make sure, I'd get there two hours before the doors open or just spend the whole day in Little 5 Points.
THE MARS VOLTA have confirmed the title of their new album, The Bedlam in Goliath. The album is tentatively scheduled for release on October 30. Additional info as to track listing, artwork, release date, etc. will be posted as soon as it is confirmed.
There is a thread on the comatorium that may have found the song titles for the new album. Someone did a search on the ASCAP website and found new song titles registered for The Mars Volta.
