I've been sucked in by the enthusiasm. I'm ready.
Where do I start guys? I need an album recommendations, songs that are awesome, or links for downloads.
GO!
Okay. "Frances The Mute" (#2) is as good as it gets. Complex and groovy. Hard rock, classic "crotch" and a distinct latin flavor smack improvisational jazz across the ass...and it was GOOD!
"Deloused In The Comatorium" (#1) is darker and more "metal". Harder, darker, more accessible, this is the best, most innovative (full length) debut I've heard in (at least) several years. Rick Rubin takes Omar by the hand and shows him how it should be done. Omar "gets it" and becomes the most vital "voice" I've heard in over a decade(if not more).
"Amputechture"(#3) Lush, orchestral acidrock. Definitely less than legendary, but definitelty more than most bands are capable of. Great stuff. A collection of tracks that Omar wrote/concieved during the "At The Drive-In" days. If ANY other band cut this record, they would be called trailblazers. They(Volta) released it and people kinda snubbed it.
They are THAT good!
This review is WAY more than lacking but, if you are really interested, send me a pm and I'll send you everything I have by them. If you don't dig it right away, you're absolutely normal. If you hate it, we'll all understand. If you dig it as much as you should, you'll become obsessed. If you just don't care, at least you gave them a shot. Right?
(for real. if you are interested, i'll burn you all of their discs and send them to you.)

It's getting kinda ridiculous! I know that bands(and record companies) like to build anticipation and hype, but the record is finished and we all know it's finished. So, why not just release the damn thing already? In time for a supporting slot at Echo, preferably. I guess that we shouldn't complain to much though. I mean, it hasn't been all that long since they gave us "Amputechture". Right?

I found this out on The Comatorium today. More information on the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Lydia Lunch collaboration.
Release Date: October 8th
Here is the the track listing:
Tracklist: 1. Welcome To My Church 2. Getting Rid Of God 3. Back To The Goddess 4. The End Of The White Man's Revolution 5. Woman (In The Beginning)
Omar Rodriguez Lopez has been a fan of Lydia's work since discovering her in the early 90's. When Mars Volta curated All Tomorrow's Parties Festival in december 2005 they invited her. And when Omar and Lydia met, they hit it off very well. The EP is the first of what Omar hopes will be a series of collaborations with Lydia. The music was recorded in Amsterdam and New York and Lydia's vocals were recorded at her own studio in Barcelona. The politics of the record are fairly obvious and Omar feels as though she speaks for both of them in that regard. The EP will be released on both CD and vinyl.
Click on news and go to August 28th 2007. It has an entry about it. I hear the guy who runs this site, has connections to record companies and he is fairly reliable.
Yea I looked at it, but like I said there is no link to any proof of this being true. Nothing at all that says this is true. In my mind I'm still waiting for the end of October.
OK, so I bought a used copy of "Deloused In The Comatorium" and listened to it on a long road trip by myself in the car. I wanted to understand "The Mars Volta" fascination. I had seen them perform on the Henry Rollins show.
Afraid I did not get it. Explain to me, if you can, or will, what you like about Omar's music. There is hope for me yet, because I did not initially like Tool, and now I love them. I want to continue to expand my musical horizons

ummm, this thread is incredibly long, so I am going to give the MV another listen. I don't recall hating them, just not being overly enthusiastic...it was sorta a long time ago when I last gave them a listen.
