^^ Agrees with both^^
I'm going to the Columbus show. I didn't think there would be a chance to see them until after March when they get back to the U.S. This is gonna rule.

^ Sweet dude, have enough fun for the both of us! ..... ya know, I don't think I would be able to handle Lucy during Volta... O.o I've always been all about being in that state during their show..... but now that I think of my past 'roo experiences with her I'm having second thoughts....
So now that I am a TMV fan, a friend pointed out that when we saw RHCP (yea I know they are whores, but I like them, so there) TMV was their opening act for the first leg of their show. By the time they made it here we got Gnarls Barkley. Isn't like trading a Porsche for a Volkswagen Beetle?

I have heard that the shows with RHCP were not their finest hour, so you may not have missed much. I think the consensus is that they may not work as well as an opening act. But I did not see them then, so I am not speaking from experience. (We actually had tickets to one of the TMV/RHCP shows in Ohio, but we ended up selling them because the show was the weekend before we moved to Atlanta.)
A lot of RHCP fans had no clue who TMV was, as they were there to see RHCP. They didn't care about TMV when they were on, created a bad vibe, and therefore a lot of people were turned off by them, not really giving them a chance, basically they were doomed from the start with some of these RHCP fans.

Also i believe that was the after John Theodore transition period and i also heard i think it was Cedric had a pretty bad cold type deal most of the tour. Luckily Thomas Pridgen is awesome, and the band is healthy to my knowledge. And they also have more than 45 minutes.

I had a similar experience at a RHCP concert with Gnarls Barkley opening for them. They booed the entire set except for when they played Crazy, and there were many shouts of "one hit wonder" following the song.
...maybe this has something to do with the majority of the RHCP fanbase?
Ok so, if you haven't, go to youtube and do a search for "mars volta bedlam" and check out the new material off their upcoming album. 4 officially released videos by mars volta, I gotta say, I really like the new material much better than the past two releases. U know they are gonna be at roo this year
Alright... so I'm seriously considering making the 13 + hour drive and getting tickets to the Kansas City show... But, there is something that could keep me from doing it:
Are they more than likely going to do any more shows in US after the Feb and March overseas shows? I'm really needing to find out... The tickets apparently are selling quickly and I need to make up my mind... any feedback would be great.

mothersky....they'll be back. The US mini-tour coming up is a warm-up of sorts. I'm going to Columbus, but hoping for at least an ATL show when they do return. Nashville is DOA for those dudes.
One of my main reasons in going is that I've seen them headline touring for every album except Amputechture. The headline shows for Amp were pretty much non-existent (didn't come near the south), besides all the opening shows for System of a Down and Red Hot Chili Peppers. After hearing how badly the shows were going there was no way I was going to pay $75 AND travel to a different city just to see them do a 30 minute set that nobody was getting down to at a horrible sounding arena. SOAD didn't come to Nashville, and RCHP did but the opening act had shifted to Gnarls Barkley by that time. I don't think I'll ever get to see my favorite band in my own hometown.
Anyway, the show in Columbus is 10 days before the new album comes out, so in some really twisted logic, I can make myself believe that I saw them touring on Amputechture, since they technically aren't touring on the new one yet. (I guess that's just the same logic that a person uses when pro-life, yet also pro-death penalty. Hehe.)
But yeah, they will be back, so don't fret if you can't make it. I fully expect Bonnaroo to be a part of that tour. Of course I have zero connections, so that's just my gut talking.
And mokane....thanks. My two favorite bands are The Mars Volta and My Morning Jacket. My avatar is the cover of my favorite MMJ album, It Still Moves.
If anyone wants a preview of what should be covered at the NYE show, shoot me a PM... there's a low quality, early bootleg from the show they did at Echoplex, and a good half of the show was captured. 6 songs debuted live, and 3 caught on this recording... if I've gotta say so myself, some pretty cool stuff.
