Do you think Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals or Ryan Adams and the Cardinals could fill the headlining spot on Sunday?
Ben Harper: no Ryan Adams: maybe.
I say this, for one reason. Ryan Adams quite possibly has one of the biggest egos I've ever seen in music history. I don't know if he'd accept an invite to play in any spot other than the headlining position. I saw a video of him literally kicking his bass player off the stage mid-concert because he thought she was off beat and making him sound bad. Don't get me wrong tho, I love me some Ryan Adams
That being said, I think it's more likely that Ryan Adams will simply not play rather than be a headliner.

I'm skeptical that Trey still has the clout to headline. I'm sure someone who's a bigger fan and follows his touring more closely than me might know better, but to me it seems his popularity has slowly yet consistently waned since his 2002 solo album (aka the height of his solo work, on record or on stage). Factor in the ever-increasing importance of the festival, and it begins to look like kind of a stretch. He's still a Bonnaroo boy, but he may not be a headliner anymore.
From all the people I've talked to who have seen Ryan Adams play with the Cardinals lately, he's apparently done a 180 and turned things around. I don't think his ego would be much of a problem.
As for headlining a late night, I don't think he's got the endurance or the draw. I think he'd be fine with 75-90 minute late day set on one of the two stages.
i still find it odd that the bonnaroo site would put up radiohead as #1 on the artist spotlight...could it just be a friendly gesture towards the band for their performance in '06? or a subtle hint towards a headlining slot in 08? i cant say im a big fan of them...i actually don't really know much of their work..i hear good things though
my pick for 2008.....Fri. Hanna Montanna.....Sat. the Barney and Friends reuniun ....Sun. Parris Hilton just standing up on stage for 3 hours . lol, Seriously, my pick is , Friday Led Zepelin , Sat. Eric Clapton, Sun. Allaman Bros Widespread Panic. I have heard from good source Led is a go....
A friend brought up a crazy but amazing point... Bonnaroo is the premier American festival, and as such they have a reputation of making bands bigger... What if they did something like launching a few modern bands onto the big market?
For instance, what if these were the headliners:
Friday - Arcade Fire Saturday - Anyone Classic (i.e. Led Zep if they're around, Springsteen, etc.) Sunday - My Morning Jacket
I think both AF and MMJ are poised to be this generation's biggest bands, so what if Bonnaroo just made the statement, "Here they are. The best there is to offer right now." I know it's probably unrealistic, which is not something I try to be on here, but I think could make for a very interesting Roo.

I think it would also make the statement "We're making other festivals' second stage shows our headliners, we're not as big as those festivals". I would think the statement Bonnaroo would want to make is have REM or Beasties in a non-headlining slot - that would say just the opposite.

but could he be a headliner? I don't really want him as a headliner because I see him as more of the type of guy that would jam with everyone else, which I might just prefer.
