Musically Gwar probably wouldnt play at roo, but I think it would be a great addition to a late night set. They certainly have one of the trippy-est live shows ever. It is probably one of the most fun shows Ive ever seen! So much blood and gross crap being sprayed all over, but its soo cooling. I saw them with CKY in Tulsa back in Oct. They had a Grand wizard of the KKK with his chest all ripped open spraying blood all over every one, then Hitler came out holding his wiener and pumping it so he was nutting blue dye all over the place, hitler then turned around and on the other side was Jesus. INSANE! shitty/funny music but fun theatricaly (kind of like the lips, although the lips music is good.)
Phallus in Wonderland is a classic. I've seen them countless times (you always get yr 10 bucks worth at a GWAR show), but at Roo it would be very surreal.

It's definitely not real, but it would be a nice time, that's for sure! Too many of those bands played last year I think for Superfly to book it

Problem with that line-up is that R.E.M. only has Sunday open as they have concerts scheduled on the friday and saturday. I really don't think they would close the festival out. They seem more like a friday or saturday band to me.

^^^Also I don't think it's necessarily more believable. There are so many artists on that list that played last year-- I count 17. Superfly won't do that.

ya but there are a bunch of new bands on there i see that have never played Roo before... please Minus The Bear!
One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain. So hit me with music. Hit me with music, now, yeah. Hit me with music. Brutalize me with music.

that seems alot more realistic.
yeah r.e.m might only have sunday open, but whos to say they'll headline, the white stripes were always mentioned like they were headliners last year and they play sunday afternoon.
and it seems totally plausible that soo many langerado acts would be there, like beastie boys and rem, hell widespread closed out langerado and bonnaroo last year.
plus comeon, oysterhead? colnel claypooles bucket of bernie brains? awesome.

I can't see R.E.M. being in any spot but a headliner. I can't see them closing out the festival. The Sunday headliner usually appeals to the jamband fans for a reason - not everyone there is a fan of jambands (I love them) but its usually a jamband on Sunday night because its the last day of the festival, people are tired and some just want to leave. I'd say a lot of people who stay Sunday night and into Monday morning either just want to stay and tough it out or are festival vets, meaning they go to a lot of festivals, they're used to the whole environment, and we all know that most of the festivals, especially the smaller ones are very jamband friendly. That's just my take on that. It works very well with the traffic situation and leaving too. I don't know if thats why they have a jamband pleaser close the festival to help with the traffic situation, or does the traffic situation work good because people start leaving. I don't know.
I can't see having both R.E.M. and Pearl Jam as headliners. They're both alternative bands. It seems like the headliners are 3 different types of music or they try to make it diverse to appeal to 3 different crowds. Now I'm not saying that because R.E.M. and Pearl Jam both fall into the alternative genre, that there music or their fanbases are the same.
But anyone who knows anything about Bonnaroo will tell you that more than likely 2 alternative bands won't headline. Of course this can all change. Its not like these are rules or anything, its just how the festival has been and has continued to be, since I guess 06. Before that it seemed to be much more jamband friendly.
So maybe Superfly and AC are taking another step to the left or right to try to change Bonnaroo little by little, year by year. I don't work for them, I don't know. But I'd love to work for them! These are just my opinions.
And with this new, up-to-date Metallica talk (the guy's whose dad is head of security) I really don't know what I believe. I could see it happening. But I don't think the head of security is going to know about the lineup, when the web developer doesn't even know anything. He probably knows about the Metallica rumor from months ago. And even though Metallica and their management quickly denied the rumor months back or whenever it started, that could just be a diversion. To try to take away from all the Zeppelin talk. But I believe Metallica is in Germany or Europe at the beginning of June, which makes it seem unlikely that they would play Bonnaroo, even though its still possible.
I was a huge Metallica fan when I was like 16. I haven't been since that whole Napster thing started. They really haven't done anything great in quite some time, you either count the Black Album as their last great album or Load or Reload, which are mediocre at best. You can't tell me St. Anger was a step forward for them.
But this is Metallica we're talking about, and they are clearly one of the greatest, most influential metal bands in the past 20 years. But when I think of metal, I generally think of a younger generation. Younger fans. This may not be true, but that's just how it appears to me in my own eyes. And when I think of metal at a festival, the last festival I think of is Bonnaroo.
The Bonnaroo type of people clearly don't want metal brought to this festival. Metal brings more bad vibes than probably any other type of music. Remember the South Park episode where they play Slayer at the hippie festival? Not saying this would happen, but look what happened when bands like Limp Bizkit and Korn fueled the fire that was the destruction of Woodstock 99? Not saying this would happen at Bonnaroo, but it makes it more likely.
At this point, I really don't care if Metallica is there or not. I'd probably skip it anyways. You know who James Hetfield's favorite band is? Gov't Mule. And Les Claypool has played with Metallica, hell, he even tried out for the bass after Cliff died. I think the majority of people who would like Metallica at Bonnaroo are probably the musicians who have relationships with them or are fans. I was a fan, but that's a part of my past I'd like to forget.

Total BS. WAY too many "big" bands. I mean, every single band there is more or less the caliber of the last set-Which-Stage variety, so where are they all going to play? Doesn't make any sense.
Ya I was thinking the same thing... even on last years lineup... about 8 rows deep when the names started becoming unidentifiable...
If there would be any of these bands to make Roo, they'd be.... Coldplay (guilty pleasure, but I wouldn't want them as a headliner), John Mayer (he can play guitar good...which might go for some good jams), Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, My Morning Jacket, B.B. King, Return to Forever, The Mars Volta, Ornette Coleman, The Moody Blues, A Tribe Called Quest, Richard Thompson’s “1000 Years of Popular Music,” The Shins, Sonic Youth, Counting Crows, Loudon Wainwright III, Iron & Wine, Arrested Development, The Magnetic Fields (why would this be so low on the list?), State Radio, Of Montreal, The Whigs, Konono No. 1, The Coup
What yelled out fake for me was all those metal bands, and then Blind Melon. Shannon Hoon's been dead since 1995. And even though they did play a show in 2007, very unlikely.
Still, it'd be nice to see The Magnetic Fields! If that were real I'd be really happy.

^^^I'm surprised so many people still don't know this, but Blind Melon has permanently reunited with a new vocalist. They're touring, they're booked for Langerado, and they are recording a new album. As for Magnetic Fields... word.
