the only metallica i want to hear is someone covering them
Haha how awesome would a String Cheese cover of "One" or "Creeping Death" be? I think Gov't Mule pulled of the Sabbath covers REALLY well, so I'm sure they could do the same with Metallica, especially something like Orion. The possibilities are endless, really.
i kinda have a hunch that Metallica is a red herring due to the fact that they are a band that would costs too much money for the limited demand that there would be for them but on the other hand were the Police really in high demand last year.
I think the police were kind of outer of place last year, the only member of that band that really belonged was Copeland. I think the Police were more out of place than Tool.
What I'm getiting at here (though i'm kinda rambling) is that since Superfly hired an out of place band to headline last year so it isn't really that far-fetched that they would do it again.

its more of the principle of the thing. MOST people who go to bonnaroo will not be happy if metallica plays, and if they are booked, it will make superfly look pretty bad, imo. It will look like they just got slim pickings with whoever was left over and only booked them because of the "big name".
LOL. "Slim pickings?"
Like them or not, they are one of the biggest bands of the last 20 years (worldwide). They sold out Wembly stadium last year.
LOL.
maybe one of the biggest bands of the last 20 years, but outside of the police who has bonnaroo had was huge in the past and within the last 5 years have been completely irrelevant in the music industry. on top of that, i dont see metallica being one of the bands bonnaroo/superfly/ac entertainment has been dying to headline their very jamband and mellow music related festival. metallica didnt sell out wembly stadium to a bunch of dirty hippies on acid is all im saying

As I've said before, The Police are punk-reggae. Reggae has always had a big presence at Bonnaroo. So it was not at all out of place that they headlined. It was just out of place that a group as massively popular in the mainstream as The Police headlined...
just had confirmation that they're in. I still can't believe it. Oh well. Very interesting hip-hop headliner, too. This looks more like Coachella than Bonnaroo. Didn't hear anything beyond the top 4.

Any source for this?? Spill it!
I'm guessing it was from Hearsay and Rumors Incorporated.

I believe he posted a thread earlier stating the top 4 names were Pearl Jam, Metallica, Kanye West, and Jack Johnson but it was quickly deleted for whatever reason. So how would everyone feel if those were the 4 headliners?
Perhaps if Metallica headlines, they can put up a big screen on the other side of Centeroo and show The Last Waltz. Or perhaps a Last Waltz watching party outside Centeroo...

exactly.... I said "slim pickings" referring to them being booked at a fest of this nature. Sure, Bonnaroo is expanding it's musical taste but they have NEVER been in demand for this sort of thing. It's a simple fact.
unless this was all strategically planned by superfly, i think metallica will play... like it or not, all things point to this, and have since the very first rumor... personally, that doesn't bother me, as there are many alternate things to do at bonnaroo.
but kanye and jack johnson? awww hell no! i really don't wanna skip ALL the headliners! a brother can only spend so much time in the beer tent!

shit...its looking like im gonna need to bring about $200 extra just for all the time ill be spending in the beer tent!
Pearl Jam, Metallica, Kanye West, and Jack Johnson
No way. I'd bet money this isn't it. I have a feeling Superfly themselves are leaking all of this stuff and they are going to his us over the head with the greatness. There is nothing special or unique about those 4 names mentioned.

Does anyone else find it just slightly suspicious that nearly every one of the clues they gave on the radio could somehow be applied to both Metallica and Led Zeppelin?
I'm pretty sure Superfly's intent with those clues was simply "We've heard the rumors too, and now let us show you our sense of humor"

It's kind of funny when you look at it... Last year all the rumors were just mindblowing and everyone was stoked for the all the rumored headliners. Then, once released I feel the general public was a bit let down after the high expectation rumors. This year most everyone hates the rumors.... I wonder what the result will be?

Man those marketing people sure do have us by the balls, look at all the work were doing for them, we fuel the rumors, make our own rumors and then fuel them, we play their games and promote this show like we live and die for it...I bet they are loving this....I think if I did have balls they would be aching right now haha
