Im happy to see metallica as a headliner. i wouldnt think that jack johnson would be even considered to be a headliner. Let's hope the zeppelin rumors are true and that's not the case.
And to all of your whining about metallica, please stop that $hit. The show's going to be awesome. you're going to love it just as you loved tool last year. just because you didn't get your dave matthews band, or widespread, or more of the same $hit u ask for every year. This is 'BONNAROO' and not 'The Annual DMB and Widespread show in Manchester.' Bonnaroo is the greatest festival in the u.s. because they keep it fresh each year.
sory if i sound like an ass but i think some of you guys are very unappreciative of the lineup. If you don't like the lineup then there are plenty of other festivals out there.
i really can't believe you guys that are whining about the lineup... there is something for everyone...
and as far as 'tallica goes: YES, they are known for their live show. YES, they are one of the most influential bands of all time. and YES, they are going to rock the farm.
just do your homework if you want to bash someone... if all you have is the napster $hit, then give it up!
i welcome metallica and you all should, too....
"it's all about the money".... no f%cking $hit, captain obvious....
i had no idea everyone is playing for free except metallica.
metallica is also an irrelevant shell of the original band that has done 1 thing worthwhile (S&M album) in the last 15+ years, and about 1000 things that make them giant pig f**kers. duh, everyone is there to get paid, but no one has ever said "hey, go f**ck yourselves, im not quite rich enough yet" to music fans quite like metallica.
:'(Sadness...dissapointment....and happiness b/c I won't be spending that much money. And I know that this site is known for being positive, but when has Metallica been positive?
I feel like the term "closed-minded" has often been mistaken for "not a fan of this band" on here too many times.
Exactly. I'm not at all a fan of Kanye, never have been. It's not closemindedness, I've heard his stuff, but it just doesn't appeal. Doesn't mean there isn't hip hop I like, but I really just don't like his stuff. Also, while Metallica will hold a place in my heart from my teen years, my tastes have changed as I've gotten older, and they just don't interest me like they used to.
Having major, headlining bands that I don't like, or have any desire to see certainly reduces my desire to go. It's not so much ruined, as, at least for me, an unwise investment. With tickets at around $240 each, plus fees, traveling expenses, supplies and provisions, etc, we'd be looking at least $1000, easily more. If there were 2 headliners I was really into, Pearl Jam included, I know I could grok Metallica, maybe even Kanye, but not both. If I were infinitely wealthy, I'd go and just dig the scene, absolutely. But, since there isn't infinite wealth (at least for me), I need to get the most bang for my buck, and given my tastes in music, this just isn't it for me. It hasn't "ruined" Bonnaroo for me, it's not like I'm going to sit in my tent in the camping area, pouting and complaining about how crappy it is. It just means that I won't go. Bonnaroo's stars and mine just didn't align this year. Sure, I'm disappointed, but there's always next year, right?
I'm happy for everyone who likes the lineup though, and I'm sure you guys will have an awesome time!

Reading some things that Superfly posted on another thread...do you really think we will get another headliner that hasn't been mentioned. They seem to say no but then again they could be pulling one over on us.

so after thinking about this for close to 12 hours now there are 15 bands just running through that i'm very excited about, yes yes fuck metallica but i said the same thing about tool last year and i certainly wasn't bored while they were on stage i was resting and gettin my head right for superjam. i was more shocked with some of the selections as well as some of the snubs. well see what happenes with the additions but i can't believe the beastie boys, blind melon, mars volta and cake aren't there. they just seemed obvious to me this year. oh well bring on june!
I wasn't going to be able to go either way, but I actually think there's a lot to like here, once you get past the top level (although I am a Kanye fan and that glow in the dark show sounds pretty awesome). That said, over $200 does seem pretty expensive if there isn't at least one major band there that you like. Either way, I hope you guys that are going have a good time.

I want to go to Bonnaroo again. I love the people, the atmosphere, Hell... even the 14 hour+ drive. But honestly, if it wasn't for all of that, I wouldn't give this lineup a second glance. Like Kiliana said, it's a matter of 'bang for your buck', and I don't really know if that's happening for me, certainly not when compared to Langerado, or even Coachella (and I thought their lineup was bad!).
Like I said... I really, really want to go back to 'Roo this year... but what's the point of going to a music festival if you don't really care for 75% of the music?
I could just be in shock still... maybe I'll feel different in a couple of days.

Don't forget the promise of over 100 bands and I think there's only 71 bands on the line up right now. Even if none of them are "headliner material" who knows what'll strike your fancy.
I mean, I wouldn't call The Mars Volta headliner material... nor Cake ;D
yeah im very disappointed too. wake up the guy that fell asleep after bonnaroo 2002, and didnt wake up till today. he'd definately go back to sleep. point being that IMO bonnaroo has changed and i think changed for the worse. im just not digging any of these names. i do like phil lesh, allman bros. umphreys..... there are other good names...but nothing really thats like OMG I HAVE TO GO! ...i can go to allgood and camp bisco for the same price and have twice as fun without the metallica and kanye fans.
but for reals.. i havent totally decided if i am going to go or not. i just will have to wait and see who the other 30 add ons will be.
Agreed - Looks like Langerado and Mountain Jam for me. (wipes away tears)
I'm over the initial shock and the lineup looks a lot better to me now. I shall humbly attend the festivities.
Ghostland Observatory will rock along with MGMT and and and and and yeah. Im expecting a decent second addition 9and more CLUES to go along with those additions...). Plus, Metallica (as said before) is known for their live show... it wouldn't hurt to see what all the hype is about.
Im happy to see metallica as a headliner. i wouldnt think that jack johnson would be even considered to be a headliner. Let's hope the zeppelin rumors are true and that's not the case.

i emailed the editor at the chicago sun-times. he says they were all fooled by nme's story last night, and the wording of the original release. check out thedailyswarm.com , to see what i mean.
as for the lineup.... can you honestly say you don't want to see a plant/vedder/hetfield/??? superjam? c'mon now. i know most of us like to seem too-cool-for-school what with our highly-developed musical tastes. but you ain't too cool for that.
Hmm..Day two and your still complaining of an amazing lineup?!? holy $hit you guys are pathetic. let me try not to be so abrasive and explain something to you. You have collectively the greatest live acts the world has to offer right now. example:
jam type bands: MMJ, Phil and friends, O.A.R, Allman Bros.
Country/Blugrass/Blues: Plant&Krause, Willie Friggin' Nelson, Robert randolph revival, Bluegrass allstars, Iron and wine
headliners:
Pearl Jam(def. one of the greatest live acts around today)
Metallica(superfly is broadening the horizons of roo' wait to complain until after they play.
Jack Johnson-as of right now he is a headliner, as i said before if he can headline coachella, he can headline roo. sorry if you dont like it. He has had 3 platinum selling records. he is amazing live, and is gonna be great.
Dance/Electronica:
Ghostland observatory-they are having there cd release party at the austin music hall which has been sold out for centuries now. Just found out its gonna be a dance party. saw em at acl, they are amazing.
MIA-not my thing, but she def. has a following
MGMT
smaller bands that are great live:
Gogol-amazing show. Good score
Against me!-Trust me you wont be disappointed
Mastadon-they can do it all. Last year at sxsw they played a free show that was a festivall like setting in downtown austin. They played to a extremely mixed crowd. B/c the following act was public enemy. Trust me they will do well.
you want additions here you go, some possibilities i feel being over looked.
All the possibilities. that Jack Johnson brings to the roo tables are endless. He is great friends with donavan frankenreiter(another great live act), Jams with ben harper on a regular basis (check out there performance of high tide or low tide on last call with carson daily), and thats not to mention g.love and special sauce, m.ward(who just wrapped on an album with zooey deschanel, yes from Elf and winter passing. There are premiering this album at sxsw) Not to mention dave matthews
And i want to point out a couple of other interesting possibilities.
Jakob Dylan(aka lead singer of the wallflowers, son of bob dylan)+ The raconteurs( toured with Bob dylan in 2006) xBob dylan doing shows in south america and mexico in 2008.=Bob dylan being a possibility
-also jack white is definitley broad enough to do a superjam and loves to collaborate with bluesy?bluegrass type musicians. I think a Plant, Krause, Jack white superjam would be stellar nonetheless.
So sorry if you think i am being hostile, but please tell me if you are such die hard roo fans and there is soo much more to the music. Does this lineup not give you your music fill.
