I'm sorry but forget the headliner bull for a second...have we not realized Jakob Dylan is going to be there...a lot of you guys know you liked the Wallflowers back in the day. I just can't see him going wrong...I think that will be a great show.

i for one was excited to see him on the bill
not to mention he is HAWT ;D
I'm excited about this too. I saw the Wallflowers back in the day.
but this lineup that they gave us does have its gems.. a lot of these smaller bands are really good and i will def have to check a lot of them out.
This is very true and personally I really don't like to go to shows where every single person knows the band and the crowd is HUGE...shows like these tend to loose personal/intimate interaction with the audience...but that's just my feeling on it.
I agree with the post that Langerado has a superior lineup, and looking it over it's really not even close.
The last two Roos were an endurance test for sure: the heat, the dust, the camping, the horrible strain on my back from standing all day, getting stuff stolen from the campsite, dealing with drugged out jackasses, wasting money on bunk substances, etc. But there were always a few sets that just made all that stuff melt away in the face of such wonderful, uplifting music (Sonic Youth, Radiohead, Oysterhead, Wilco, White Stripes, STS9, Andrew Bird all had huge goosebumps factor for me, like musical therapy).
Looking at the lineup this year, I don't see any bands that could supply that euphoric buzz. There's a few that might, but I never thought I'd be talking myself into Roo based on MMJ, Broken Social, Robert Randolph, and The Racontuers. In years past I knew I was in for a good time, this time it would be risky.
chill out kreutz. your first three posts all screaming metallica. give it up.
I really think the lineup sucks llama balls. Coachella lineup >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Bonnaroo lineup. I was actually looking forward to seeing Bonnaroos lineup because I thought Coachellas was subpar compared to other years, but man was I wrong. Coachella got Portishead, Kraftwerk, The Verve. Bonnaroo got nothing that even comes close to any of those bands...maybe Sigur Ros.

I thought the Roo and Coachella never shared a headliner and now when they do it's Jack Johnson????....If they were going to have one of their headliners why not Roger Waters or Portishead.......I'll prolly end up going but I'll be getting some bad-ass spots for the late-nights during the headliners and getting a headstart on the way out on Sunday.
"We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, movie gods, and rock stars. But we wont, and we're slowly learning that fact & we're very, very pissed off......."
I think I share judgment with many other people. I forgot to mention that Coachella also got Roger Waters. Hmm would I rather see Jack Johnson, Metallica, and Kanye or Jack Johnson, PORTISHEAD andd ROGER WATERS. Coachellas undercard is soooo much stronger that bonnaroos thats not a judgment thats a fact.
i don't think it's necessary to bash individuals who aren't quite as pleased with the lineup as you. this is just a message board, everyone's entitled to their own opinions, blah blah blah.

its true
my only thing is people saying how superfly has somehow sold out. so they may not have put your favorite bands of all time on the lineup...that doesn't mean they've sold out, it just means this may not be your year, and that's fine.
personally, i think superfly did a superb job, and that there is still a HUGE announcement waiting in the wings. i planned to go regardless of the lineup, simply because i love bonnaroo. i understand its a lot to undertake, but in my experience, it has always been more than worth it.
then again, i spend money on festivals and music the way most girls spend money on clothes and purses.

I can't say I'm real jazzed about Metallica, but at least they booked a real metal band (Mastodon). Anyone that plans on skipping the Metallica set is welcome to come hang out with me and party in the campgrounds/pre-game for late night. Maybe our inforoo shirts this year should say something like "I'M SUING LARS". Seriously though, here's my list of reasons why "Metallica sucks, but I'm still going to Bonnaroo": Pearl Jam Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, T-Bone Burnett Phil MMJ ABB Willie BB King Sigur Ros !!! Ben Folds BLUEGRASSNESS!!! Umphrey's Yonder Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi Robert Randolph Mastodon DSO and I'll still be open to suggestions when June rolls around. I've only missed one headliner at any of the roos, and I didn't feel like I missed much, still had a great roo that year.

then go and try to have an open-mind about it. start looking up and listening to the bands on the list you might not be familiar with. just because you aren't jazzed about the headliners doesn't mean the experience won't be well worth the effort
I don't think anyone can deny that the lineup could be better this year but at the same time I hope you can see all the potential it has for awesomeness!
!!! and Ghostland Observatory just to start things out Sigur Ros!!! Ladytron, MMJ, MIA, Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiasco, Broken Social Scene, Rilo Kiley, Iron and Wine, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Willie Nelson, BB King and BATTLES!! are all going to kill!
The only thing that bothers me is how few artists there are that I haven't seen at some point or another, but I am really excited for MGMT and Vampire Weekend although both are at Coachella. I sure wish the Roo had gotten Roger Waters or freakin PORTISHEAD instead of Jack Johnson if they were gonna steal a headliner from Coachella. I will def check out some of PJ and Metallica though but will be great for saving up energy for the late nights.
But the one thing so many people are failing to mention is that this initial lineup includes like NONE of the dozens of jazz artists we should see for the bluenote tent. Seriously, this was one of my favorite parts of the festival last year and should def be back even better this year! I'm sure they'll be some other sick adds too (yes some electronic acts would be awesome!).
Who do you guys think is going to be on late night patrol. Obvious choices Talib/Lupe for hip hope, hopefully some !!! and Ghostland for a dance party! MMJ on the which stage? Sigur Ros late night would make the price of admission alone almost worthy...
Seriously let's not be down on the lineup until we get the full breadth, I really hope they get Anthony Braxton and would love to see Ravi Coltrane back again this year!
I will say that Pearl Jam is Bonnaroos only redeeming factor.
Got to say dude...if you think Sigur Ros and Pearl Jam are what make this year's lineup, you need to brush up on your music IQ cause it's probably pretty damn low.
I won't lie, I'm kind of underwhelmed. I've tried convincing myself it's good, but I think it's the weakest lineup they've had since the first year. I think the headliners blow. And I think people can agree with me that My Morning Jacket would be much better to close the weekend than Jack Johnson. I like J.J.'s first two albums, but he's been sucking the teet of adult contemporary radio lately. Sigur Ros, Broken Social Scene, M.I.A., !!!, Iron & Wine, Death Cab, My Morning Jacket, Battles, and the overall vibe might be just enough to get me to go this year. I don't know yet. I might wait to see what Lolla looks like

phil closed in 06 and it was GREAT! for those who were there...anyone remember the dance train during scarlett begonias? THAT WAS MY GROUP OF ROO'ers!! ;D
Phil Lesh is not a headliner. He isn't even on the first line of the list. The headliners are never below the first line of the list.
I think it's more probable that Phil gets a late night which stage slot on Saturday night. The last time an artist went from headlining to not headlining was Trey Anastasio who headlined in 04, and played the which stage, late night on saturday night in 05.
then go and try to have an open-mind about it. start looking up and listening to the bands on the list you might not be familiar with. just because you aren't jazzed about the headliners doesn't mean the experience won't be well worth the effort
i'm not jazzed about the ENTIRE lineup so far, not just the headliners. and i'm familiar with almost all on the list, except the comedy acts.

Absolutely no doubt it is the weakest roo list. I've been to the last four, and been excited for each one. 08 is just uninspiring. There are its highpoints, but as noted before roo is quite taxing on body and the wallet. I just cant decide if its worth it. What makes me feel I do want to go, was the year I previously felt had the weakest lineup going in turned out to be the most fun year (05). Having alot of bands you want to see at Bonnaroo can add a bit too much pressure. I kind of liek the feeling of wondering around and not just having to race around to see bands I couldent miss. Just my two cents.
Hey you guys? I'm really having some internal conflict about the lineup and whether or not I should go to the festival this year.
I was able to pick out a good 20 - 25 that would be good to see, but I am nervous about the complete lack of electronic/jamband artists.
Last year was so sweet with STS9, String Cheese, DJ Shadow, Sasha and Digweed (stayed till it ended with the sunrise!), Hot Chip, Girl Talk, Galactic (if you don't want to count it, fine, but they were AWESOME)....
And this year has MIA. And Battles (kinda). And Kanye (who I think will put on a great show, especially with the colaboration with the Takashi Murakami people for his latest album...expect amazing visuals).
But where are the late night trancers? Where's the Infected Mushroom? How about some Balkan Beat Box? Disco Biscuits? STS9 again? Galactic (I mean come on when Superfly is your manager)?...
I went with people I met on a facebook group last year and had an amazing time. I managed to convince my friends from home to come with me rain or shine this year but now because of this evident lack in the initial lineup I don't know how to handle it and I don't know if it will be worth the money.
I loved Bonnaroo last year. I don't know what to do, and whether I should just expand my festival repitoire by going to other ones (Bonnaroo is the only one I have been to, except for the Harmony Music Festival in NorCal, but that was gross).
