phil closed in 06 and it was GREAT! for those who were there...anyone remember the dance train during scarlett begonias? THAT WAS MY GROUP OF ROO'ers!! ;D
this show was great and it started raining a lil bit to which was soo awesome and needed
I agree, I think he will close the show like in 06..
Don't worry all...more announcements are yet to come. Look at the website, look at how many artists are listed for 06, 07 an then look at 08....more are yet to come...
Well, I have been reading the boards for ages, but never really post anything. I've been to roo for the last 2 years and just figured that I would be going every year possible from here on out!! But...............
I'm really depressed about the lineup this year. I have NO interest in seeing Metallica whatsoever. I know that some people do, but it just doesn't seem right for bonnaroo. And, while I like Kanye West, it seems a bizarre place for him too. I think some people are right that Langerado has a MUCH better lineup, but as I live in TN, and am 2 hours away from Manchester, Bonnaroo is the easiest fest for me to attend.
So, with that I am still going for sure, and while I'm not super pumped about the headliners, there are still TONS of other bands that I will love seeing while I'm there! And, it is true, Bonnaroo is all about what you make of it!
I will say that Pearl Jam is Bonnaroos only redeeming factor.
Got to say dude...if you think Sigur Ros and Pearl Jam are what make this year's lineup, you need to brush up on your music IQ cause it's probably pretty damn low.
I am just comparing it to coachella. I was saying Pearl Jam and Sigur Ros are two bands that Bonnaroo has that I wish Coachella has. Also, please dont attempt to knock my music IQ, you will ultimately fail. I am familiar with 90% percent of the lineup and am well qualified to say it is a horrible lineup. Out of the bands that are not at coachella (which has a far superior lineup this year) I would want to see:
Pearl Jam, The Allman Brother Band, Sigur Ros, Iron and Wine, Talib Kweli, Broken Social Scene, !!!, Ladytron, The Fiery Furnaces, Ghostland Observatory, Two Gallants, and The Sword.
Face it the lineup is pathetic. I have seen every band I just listed besides The Sword at least once. When is the next time Portishead or The Verve is going to tour the U.S. probably not for a while, if they even do.
I would really love to go to Langerado this year, but I think there's a schedule conflict, I like the lineup there. I have family in Fort Myers but I think they're coming here sometime around Langerado. I'm going to have to check it out.
Plus my aunt and uncle in Ft Myers are big vanners and I might be able to con them in to loaning me a camper. natch.
I'm not that excited about Roo's lineup, the bands I like I've seen and the ones I haven't seen aren't really enough for me to justify the ticket, not to mention the undoubtable schedule conflicts.
I'll just have to see how my funds are.
Sigur Ros, MIA, Lupe and a few other roo's has me thinking though. And I missed out on Jose Gonzales when he was in Cleveland, sadly. So IDK. Just have to decide if it's worth it.
We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and They both tell me that we're better than this
I just gotta say, Anybody thinking Phil Lesh will close 2008 is very naive as to how the Artist Lineup Configuration actually works. Either that or you are fooling yourself b/c you don't want to believe Jack is the Headliner, which he is.

I do kind of wish that Jack had been earlier in the weekend. He's great chill music, but he would be excellent to get into the weekend, not to have to leave after.
maybe im crazy but i cant comprehend where superfly would get off telling me that Jack Johnson, Metallica, or Pearl Jam are bigger names/draws than Phil and Friends

I'm guessing Jack will be a long saturday late afternoon slot. From what I recall, that's the time he played in 05. It's too chill to play at night, and at the end of sunday of all times.

Can I ask why you guys think Jack Johnson is a headliner?
B/c he is the third band on the list, and his tour date is listing him for 6/15/08 (only day he could logically headline cause it won't be saturday - that day is reserved for the top band on the bill). Since 2005 the top bands on the list have all been headliners. 2004 was the only year the 4th band was a headliner (Trey Anastasio). And It sure as hell is not going to be Kanye West headlining.
Besides Jack is headlining Coachella and several other fests this summer. It's not out of the realm of possibility AT ALL, despite how dissapointed it makes people feel.

he's playin sunday according to his tourdates page.
Unless some big announcement happens (which Ashley Capps said "don't expect"), He is our headliner.

I rarely post but as someone who has been to bonnaroo the last 4 years in a row, and views roo with a mixture of respect and love, i just want to cry. I actually lost sleep last night after looking the lineup over. There are great bands there (MMJ, Pearl Jam, etc), but where have my jam bands gone, where are my late nights where I saw Sasha & Digweed, SCI, Galactic, Gov't Mule, STS9, etc. Every year that I go, Bonnaroo gets a little closer to selling out. The vibe gets a little nastier, the bands become a little more commercial, and there seem to be more people there for all the wrong reasons. I love Bonnaroo, but I can't see myself going this year. Superfly, you have taken something very dear to me and transformed it into something I barely recognize.
I know all this has been said, but I had to say it for my own sanity.

I still can't shake the feeling that Led Zep will be there. The main reason for this: No flat out denial from Bonnaroo or Led Zep.
Ashley Capps, president of Bonnaroo could quash these rumors by simply saying "they will not be there". But instead he says “I don’t think you’ll see (any more) major headliners.", that's a pretty wishy washy denial from a guy who would know for certain if more headliners were on the way or not. The NME revised announcement doesn't say "Led Zep will not be at Bonnaroo", it says "The much-rumoured performance by Led Zeppelin is not set to take place." Strange choice of words IMO. I also have a hard time believing the AP would run with a story based on a misreading of LEZ Zeppelin. It just all feels like a giant clue.
It could be that Superfly is being intentionally vague about the denial to keep the Led Zep rumors alive long enough for us to agree to shell out a higher price for a weaker lineup, but I'm not cynical enough to believe that (yet). It could also be that I am blowing a huge cloud of smoke up my own ass in the name of wishful thinking, but hopefully that cloud will leave more than a metallic taste in my mouth.
Even if there is no LZ I will definitely go, and I hope to meet many of you at camp inforoo this year!

I lost sleep too....man, I feel lame, but it is dear to me, and I have your sentiments as well.
how people are complaining about this lineup is beyond me. while im not a huge metallica fan, im not musically obtuse enough to immediately dissregard a band with that amount of staying power. I think the intro of enter sandman will ultimately put my uneasiness about that show to rest. And people cry about kanye? its obvious most of you are just talking without knowing. His last album got 4 and 1/2 stars from rolling stone and is a PHENOMENAL album!! I dont even like rap, i just know good music. plus his show will probably be with talib kweli (the bob dylan of hip-hop right now) and lupe fiasco who is rising. No jam bands? what are the allman brothers, phil lesh, darkstar, umphreys, ymsb, O.A.R., robert randolph, and ghostland observatory? plus all kinds of bluegrass legends (t-bone burnett for gods sake), classic rock legends (levan helm and little feat) and countless others. that doesnt even include Pearl Jam, Sigur Ros, BB FREAKING KING, who by the way i have seen and will make your thoughts about what a guitar can accomplish be turned upside down, derek trucks, raconteurs, and willie nelson. And after writing that i realized i forgot My Morning Jacket, who im probably the most excited for this year. This is all within the INITIAL LINEUP!! there is more to come. The only people complaining are not true music fans, they just find a couple bands that they think no one has heard of and try to act like music snobs. It is really sad, Bonnaroo 2008 will be epic.this is my thrid year in a row and the lineup seems like a close 2nd to 2006, mostly because its impossible to top radiohead. I am looking forward to what it s bringing. I hope some of you wake up. Most excited for: (in order) MMJ Phil Lesh BB King Kanye West Allman Brothers Pearl Jam Metallica Sigur ros Levon Helm Raconteurs Bluegrasts All-stars Drive-by Truckers
depends on what mindset you're coming from. i'm more interested in seeing phil & friends...buuuut....there are also A LOT of people who have no idea who he is (a travesty, i know) but know jack johnson & metallica. that might be the whole "selling out" perspective, although i tend to see it more as diversifying.
