did you even read my post? or did you just stop at the first sentence?
i wasn't trying to be rude. i don't understand the attitude.
well, you posted that as if i didn't know that he headlined in 2006. But if you read that post you'll see that I mentioned a band that goes from Headliner to Not a Headliner has a precedent in Trey Anastasio, when he played late night in 05. I expect the same from Phiil. Headliner 06>Late NIght 08.

ok, that's fine
i didn't mean to imply that you didn't know what you were talking about. i just don't appreciate such a nasty attitude. its a bonnaroo board...no need.

I am not saying that there are not good bands there, or that all genres won't be represented. I am saying that this year is nowhere near as good a lineup as they have had in the past. That doesn't make me a music snob. It might make me a Bonnaroo snob, but if so that is only b/c I have seen what they are capable of. A good Bonnaroo lineup makes me browse tents to see all the music, it makes me stay at Centeroo from 1pm-4am, it makes me countdown, beg my friends to come. Please do not refer to me as "not a true music fan". Saying bad things about Bonnaroo hurts me inside. Like I said, I went 4 years in a row, planned cross country moves around Bonnaroo (twice). My commitment isn't lacking. Superfly, on the other hand?
I just don't know what to think. Deep down, I am still hoping against hope that LZ will somehow end up being there......but I am feeling more and more that this is it. I'm still going, but I think that the headliners could be A LOT more exciting.

it's cool, I'm sorry to sound rude. I just was confused why you'd tell me he headlined in 2006, when I mentioned that in the post.
The only people complaining are not true music fans, they just find a couple bands that they think no one has heard of and try to act like music snobs.
statements like this are really getting me down today. don't be a dick.
some people would like to feel that they are getting their money/time/travel/etc worth. we'll personally be driving almost 2000 miles to and from bonnaroo, plus $1200 for tickets, gas money, food money, time off from work, i'll most likely be missing tests at school that week that i will not be able to make up, etc etc etc.
When you deal with conspiracy theorists, nothing convinces them. Tool is my favorite band and I frequent their forums when the band is active. There were people on Tool forums believing 10,000 Days was a big elaborate hoax/dupe album right up until the release. Sad thing was they were dead serious.
Yes Jack of Hearts, I know what you mean. I have been begging a couple of my friends to go this year who have never been. And, they were pretty much all for it as I was telling them all of the rumors to be there. Then, last night I had to give them the real lineup.....needless to say, it was a letdown.
not too excited....last years lineup seemed more complete from top to bottom. Gonna have to really consider if i want to drop all that money on this years...last year I had no problem...
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!
i can completely understand why someone wouldnt want to drive 2000 miles for that lineup ( or really any lineup that doesnt contain someone like zeppelin) but that is besides the point. not wanting to drive that far because of different reasons and saying this lineup is crap are 2 completely different things. If you dont want to go that is your choice and you are 200% welcome to make that choice. my problem stems from people saying all these bands are awful and dont fit when its obvious they havent even heard anything from them. the only thing some of these bands dont fit is certain peoples agendas. in actuality if people just take a chill pill they would see that this line up is great.

they should have added the guys from the FreeCreditRepot.com commericals. Maybe they will be added later.
haha thats funny. I didnt know that commercial was nationwide. The first one makes me think they are giving nod to the flaming lips (working at the seafood restaurant). The one in the car, the singer is not even in sync with the song. hahaha
Yeah, saw that too. I still wouldn't consider that a flat out denial. Perhaps they will be shouting it from the rooftops when they decide to announce it. I know it's probably not gonna happen, but a guy can still hope. It wouldn't be the first time they've misled us about something. But regardless, I can't wait for Bonnaroo this year, Zep or not. There are plenty of acts to be excited about. If Zep (or any other headliners) are announced, it'll just be icing on the cake for me.

I gotta say...I'm not really happy with the lineup, but I'm sure there are many who are crazy about it. On that note...as far as the inforoorers calling people musical snobs...I think that we have "Bonnaroo snobs" here too....what I mean by this is that some people think that what ever superfly touches turns to gold (even if they really aren't that great). I don't feel this way, but I'm sure some do. I'm against musical and bonnaroo snobs, but friendly to all. Have a great time whether you decide to go or not go.

I am absolutely NOT a conspiracy theorist, just a guy holding out a little hope. If LZ is not officially announced within a week or two of tickets going on sale, I will let the dream die.

I know Roo isn't about booking the same acts over and over again, but I am slightly sad that Widespread won't be jamming this year. Also, Gov't Mule, STS9, and a few of the dj's I was hoping were going to be there aren't as of the initial lineup.
Widespread's set that closed out Bonnaroo 07 was one of my favorites, and they seem to be a staple with roo.
I want to go to Bonnaroo again. I love the people, the atmosphere, Hell... even the 14 hour+ drive. But honestly, if it wasn't for all of that, I wouldn't give this lineup a second glance. Like Kiliana said, it's a matter of 'bang for your buck', and I don't really know if that's happening for me, certainly not when compared to Langerado, or even Coachella (and I thought their lineup was bad!).
Like I said... I really, really want to go back to 'Roo this year... but what's the point of going to a music festival if you don't really care for 75% of the music?
I could just be in shock still... maybe I'll feel different in a couple of days.

I was pretty sure that the line up was going to be disappointing. Howeever, I'm really really really excited about this line up. Nope, there's no Zeppelin. No Claypool, No Beastie Boys, or Phish Reunion. Jerry Garcia didn't come back from the dead to grace us with his presence.
What we do have is an amazingly diverse line-up that should be great fun to watch and hear. I personally can't wait. I don't even like Pearl Jam or Metallica that much and I think it's questionable that Jack Johnson is headlining. But I'm as excited now as I've ever been. With Kanye, The Raconteurs, Against Me!, Lupe Fiasco, Allman Bros, Plant and Krauss, BB King, MMJ, MGMT, Sigur Ros, MIA, and MANY others, there isn't that much to be worried about.
If there are enough good artists where I don't want to have to type them all, we've got a pretty damn good festival. It's time to except that Bonnaroo is no longer a hippie jam fest. It's obvious that there are other festivals doing this and if the line up really bothers you that much, seek those others out. Don't bring down others with talk of how AC/Superfly turned it's back on all the people it loves. That's bull. They are creating a more diverse line-up every year that I will take pleasure in being a part of.
I was really worried for the last month. Honestly what worried me was inforoo. People's expectations got too high. Last year everyone complained about Tool. I thought they were one of the best shows of the weekend. But to hear this board talk you would think they were literally going to set fire to the farm. Now it's happening again with Metallica and Mastodon. Even Against Me! to a lesser extent which is a band I respect and love very much.
These bands won't endanger the 'Roo vibe. The 'Roo vibe will be there every time a band that you love strikes the first note of their set. As the sun sets and it feels like everything's alive in a way that never seemed quite as possible before. The 'Roo vibe will exist everytime you can't wipe the grin off of your face even though every joint in your body is aching.
I'll be back at Bonnaroo this year. I hope I see you guys there.
Let me add my two cents in on the subject of the lineup......
Me personally I'm really excited about the lineup. Pearl Jam is my favorite band and having seen them I know they will show up and play a 3 hour set with lots of guests and totally own the stage. This type of festival is exactly the environment they like. I'm also excited to see Kayne West for the fact that his tour this year is suppose to be a glow in the dark tour and somehow I just see this working with this crowd.
But I also understand people being upset. Everyone had such high hopes for Led Zeppelin that when it wasn't announced it was bound to be a big let down. My feeling is if you are going to let one band not being their ruin your weekend you probably shouldn't be going anyways. This whole weekend is about discovering bands that you may have heard of but never experience live. Did anyone go into last year saying they were stoked to see The Cold War Kids???? Majority of people probably hadn't even heard a song by them but after that weekend you couldn't wait for your next chance to see them. Let's be honest at a festival like this you always end up saying man I wish I had more time to see more bands. You can't see every band, you probably can't see 25% of the bands playing.
Also don't worry about Metallica. If it's not for you don't go and see them when they play. I'm sure a lot of people skipped Tool last year because it wasn't for them but their weekend wasn't ruined by it. One band playing should not make or break your weekend.

I have to disagree about the vibe changing and i always hash back to last year, the crowd overran and knocked down the gates to centeroo at the entrance near which stage. Iv never seen that before and its completely un cool and i dont attribute it to TOOL I attribute it to less jam bands.
Last year, I think I saw 19 bands, and listened to several more from my campsite. I can already count that many that I want to see. So, it really doesn't matter to me who else is playing on the other stages.
And as far as I'm concerned any music fan willing to camp out for four days in that dust and heat has the Bonnaroo Spirit, no matter which bands they came to see.

Until you put on your own festival, you aren't going to have a lineup that mirrors your exact tastes. I'm not overjoyed with a couple of headliners. But top to bottom, I'm thrilled. There is going to be so much gloriously wonderful music. I can't f-ing wait!
I do fear that Roo is losing it's vibe of pleasantness. I think it's still there but the people that come to Metallica shows aren't the type of people you usually see at Roo. Tool did seem to bring about a different crowd last year and I think the face of the average Bonnaroo-er has changed since the first three years. I'm pleased with the overall lineup and I'm still going but I'm not real happy with the ticket prices and I wish they'd have more jam bands and less harder acts. Whatever, Superfly doesn't care what I think.
