Ive been to going to roo since 2003. I think the headliners are great Metallica Friday, PJ Sat, JJ Sunday. I'm very pleased and will prob be front row for Friday and sat, and on Sunday will chill back and enjoy, great way to end an intense weekend. Kanye although a relevant hip- hop act just doesn't fit, I would rather have some one like mos def. I'm almost a 100% sure that he will have a which stage late night spot considering he has the Glow in the Dark tour I couldn't imagine him doing anything else at roo. I'm sure the light show and theatrics will be amazing. But The which stage late night spot is a very important spot and with past late night headliners like, Primus, Flips, and trey I just dont see his music giving me goosebumps and that feeling of pure musical enlightenment that the former late night headliners were more than capable of doing. If I am correct there were two which stage late night headliner, so theres another spot to fill. My best guess for this spot would be either MMJ or Phil and friends. MMJ already has done a late night at bonnaroo so there chances go slightly down, and even though Phil and friends are great and I need the band in that spot to really melt my face off like the flips did. Again I love Phil but he doesn't melt my face off like the flips or Primus. Other than that I see nobody else who would even closely qualify for the late night which stage sets. In fact I dont see too many bands that I would consider to really substantiate a late night set other than MMJ or Robert Randolph. Its not the headliners I'm worried about, I'm very pleased with the headliners, its the lack Depth and Goosebump factor of the potential late nights sets that I'm worried about. I mainly go for the Stellar late night acts which is unmatched by any festival by far. Every year the initial lineup comes out I always see about 15-20 bands at least that Would 100% provide a kick ass late night set. I dont get that vibe. and other than the headliners I don't see any bands that jump out at me and say I CANT MISS THAT SHOW! we all say that at some point and for me and some of the old rooers Nothing says that this year. There are plenty of great musicians like BB and Willie and allman bros. But I need some damn face melting. Sorry for the rant its been building for quite some time.
And I know there will be additions but honestly its hard for me to hold onto hope that the additions will some how magically change everything. I mean over the year the additions have got weaker and less frequent. Last year there were hardly any worth while additions, please correct me if i'm wrong. and one was the cafe acts which take up about 20 30 bands alone. So in reality we are looking at 5 maybe 10 decent additons. But like last year the blew their load on the initial lineup and fizzled out with the additions rolled over and fell alseep. I mean i years past I used to be just as excited if not more excited about the additions compared to the initial line-up. The would have solid names all the way till the last addition. Instead the additions are basically to fill the smaller tents in early time slots. I hope i'm wrong but i'm also trying not to be niave. IS ANYONE ELSE WORRIED ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE LATE NIGHT ACTS THIS YEAR? if your not worried please explain to me how you feel the late night could pan out to be amazing. Kayne West dancing in front of lights singing "gold digger" doesn't persuade me either.
Late nights were pretty good last year, but on the whole not as grandiose as 2004 which was far and away the best year for late nights. And the Flips 07 show was about 1/10th as good as their 03 show, which is one of the top Roo shows ever.
^karma, thats all anyone is really worried about. Last years latenights will be forever unrivaled
but we need something for the "awe" factor
Last years late night sets were unbelievable but I feel like every year this has been the case. and up untill this year I never had to question whether or not the will be truly mind bending late night acts. I know Kanyes act will be flashy and produced well but will it be mind bending I think not. Thanks for the karma right back at you!
it will be interesting to see this board after roo happens and see if anyone's attitude changes to the vibe of the roo. this got trashed, that got trashed, drunk people everywhere, my tent got stolen. no more love your neighbor and close relationships that you keep long distance until next years roo.
i think the only thing that could save it and make me want to go is umphreys latenight fri and moe latenight on sat. but thats an expensive couple of latenights.
and i loved lastyears latenights. sci was stellar and you should have walked a couple hundered yards and seen mule. but that could just be me. i just dont get the f'lips. i had a good time at the echo project show. its an insane show. but i dont get into the music at all really.
The only thing that can ruin my experience at Bonnaroo is people complaining and being negative.
Its not hate i'm just letting out my worries and frustrations. This is the first year ive been worried that the late night might not come through. If you dont like people giving their opinions you are def. in the worng place. This is a place to discuss bonnaroo which is what i'm doing. Tell me with this line-up right now who do you feel is gonna give you a mindebending face melting awe inspiring late night set with the exception of MMJ?

I would def. love a LCD/Daft Punk addition along with like 3 jammy types ; moe, p.groove, disco biscuits. i'd really like everyone to get their mars volta too. that seems like it would please a lot of people.
Dave Mathews and fans ruined Bonnaroo in '04, Radiohead and their terrible fans ruined it in '06, Tool and their agressive fans ruined it in'07. Whatever. I don't mind people not liking bands, but the summary judgments about the "kind of people" that Dave Mathews or Radiohead or Tool or Metallica or Kanye or Death Cab or OAR or whoever will bring in are ugly and ignorant imo.
If you really think that taste in music is a good indicator of what kind of person someone is, then you probably haven't interacted with very many different kinds of people in your life. The crowd will have a blast at Bonnaroo and will be really, really fun if you are even the slightest bit open and game and if you aren't there to judge people who are different from you.
I was at Roo in '02 when it was the only festival out there, and I've been every year except '07. I'm really excited about the lineup and hope I can manage to go this year. My tastes have changed in six years and so has the types of bands that play Bonnaroo. If you want a jamband fest, there are so many out there now its ridiculous. If you like the Bonnaroo lineup and/or what Superfly and AC have done with the fest over the years, Bonnaroo is for you.
Spot on, man. Glad to see you posting a bit.
The Roo organizers have made no qualms about their desire to be a global fest, on the level of Glastonbury or other fests that draw acts and fans from all walks of life, from all around the world. If you want a predictable fest, there are plenty out there! I'll be at Langerado and a couple of small festivals this year and I'm sure they'll all be a blast for what they are and I can't wait for those experiences, but at the end of the day, the only place offering any significant growth, on a whole series of levels, will be Bonnaroo. Spouting off about "selling out" or describing something as "too mainstream," or whatever other type of tired description you can come up with is just lame. At this point, the only thing predictable about Bonnaroo is that it's going to be unpredictable -- not too many fests can say that.
Also, this thread has made it painfully obvious that many of the folks posting here REALLY aren't familiar, like, at all, with a good chunk of this year's lineup.
The only thing that can ruin my experience at Bonnaroo is people complaining and being negative.

Robert Randolph's revival, if latenight, could be the pinnacle of Bonnaroo.

Man I think the lineup has planty of big names but it needs some more jam music. I thought for sure moe. and the biscuits would play this year. My fingers are crossed for a late addition. But realisticaly it is kind of hard to complain with what they have. Great job at making it diverse if you ask me.
By the way...it's kind of comforting, in a horribly frustrating way, to see all the whining and complaining. For those that haven't been around here the past couple years, you wouldn't know that this is kind of normal - if not a bit unhealthy. I just know that it means Bonnaroo is upon us! Can't wait to see you all (or those that haven't talked themselves out of it within the first 24 hours) there!!!

Mars who? don't believe I've heard them mentioned before. ???
It's ok. they really haven't been very good live for a few years now, and actually were never that *GREAT* live and freely admit that. They're ok, but the show is way too much now with all the props and breaks and talking. 2003 was very different. Very raw, and edgy, and new for all the jam fans who were at Roo. IT was one of the most awesome spectacles Roo has ever seen.
Honestly, it was THE SHOW everyone left that year talking about.
IF not for that show, FLips wouldn't be on the festie circuit at all. It really was that important and awe inspiring for them (and us).
dudes, how awesome would it be if metallica started their set with Ecstacy of Gold ...that song from the good the bad and the ugly that they do on S&M??/ im thinkin metallica might kickass after all.

plus, its nice to finally be able to read some discussion and see this place be interesting again. beats the hell out of reading a thread whose only purpose is to come up with as many 3 word combinations possible, or watching everyone give themselves blue balls in the sex thread.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
