sorry im late to jump on the bus everyone.
better late than never, they say!
Amen. This is the Bonnaroo vibe, people. This is why I'm going to the farm. We need to actively turn the faithful out to 'roo year after year to keep it the 'roo.
What do you guys think the chances are of Ben Harper coming out with some people? Jack Johnson comes to mind... I think it's been a few years since they last collaborated but man they do sound pretty sweet together I thought.
vedder and harper are buddies... so thats where my money is.

Okay, I'm a tad late with this, but I've been reading through the thread about how people DO NOT want to see Kanye perform at Roo..
Kanye just seems like an asshole, cocky guy, but he is VERY talented.
I think people don't give him enough credit because of some super big radio hits he's had, but he has mixed and made a lot of unique music.
I know Bonnaroo may seem out of place for an act like him, but I'm having faith in Superfly. I think THEY really do want us who spend hard earned money to attend Bonnaroo to have a great time.
I'm all for changing it up a bit, as long as the "diversifying" acts mesh well into the whole scene. I'm still not sold on the lineup as a whole, but the actual experience of bonnaroo and the art that I get to see there is just as important as the music.
And the whole argument about roo being commercial is inevitable... They need money from people like Garnier Fructis, AT&T, and all of the other sponsers to help make Bonnaroo structurally better.
So, I myself cannot wait until June to be back on the farm!
I have been lurking on this board for over a year now and finally decided to post.
First off, I must thank everyone for the wealth of information I have found here in the past year. I have been to every Bonnaroo since '03, and have enjoyed everyone. Through my experience it doesn't matter if you like/know most of the artists on the lineup, you will always be able to find something to do, some music to listen to. I have never found myself bored, hell I am lucky to rest at all.
If you are on the fence because of the lineup, just go, my guess is you won't regret it.
I was swept up in the LZ hurricane. Like many, I was totally caught off base by the Headliners announcement.
Preface
I am one of those latecoming Roo virgins. Last year was my first...my first festival ever. Spent the past 15 years trying to keep my two rugrats in a bubble. Divorce cures some things, eh? Decided to take my soon to be 16 yo son last year, to see some great music and a "slice of life" as it were. I had a blast and his head is still spinning. One of the few common interests we still share is music.
Body
Last year I went for the Police (snore), but OMG...soooo many stages and tents...so little time. Tool, Lilly Allen (drunk off her ass), Wolfmother, White Stripes, feist, The Roots, Superjam, MANU CHOU, Kings of Leon, Decemberists, Marley, Mule, STS9...just to name a few.
This lineup light on the "headliners" (I'll miss JJ) is very deep at the top. ABB, DCC, PJ, Phil (he will close), The Racounters, MMJ, Willie, BB, Ben Folds, Sigor...LittleFeat (for christ sakes...even though Lowell's been dead for 20+ years will sothe the jam purests).
Conclusion
50 years ago at Daytona they raced around the beach in a circle...40 years ago 16 teams played in a basketball tournament...30 years ago disco was good...20 years ago the Bee Gees started dying...10 years ago Bonnaroo was what?
Let's let those that want to go...go...those that don't...don't, and oh by the way....how's about some free shower and ice love?

It's an honor to give you your first karma. Roo is what you make it. The lineup is like a Rorschact ink blot. You can find things to be unhappy about and you can find things to be happy about. I know there are people who are disappointed in some of the selections. But aren't there acts you can get excited about?

Okay so I haven't lost everyone in my group so here's to another fun year! But we still need some late nights and Metallica should just play "Ride the Lightning" cover to cover and then bring on Zeppelin for the Suprise superjam! Much love to everyone and get some sleep tonight!
"Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us." — Charles Bukowski

I may have to add myself to the list of those who think it may not be worth it this year. If I lived nearby and ticket prices weren't close to $250 dollars I'd probably go.
There's a lot of great artists and I'm sure it will be a blast. But Bonnaroo today in some fundamental difficult-to-define way is a different festival than it used to be. Not saying better or worse, but different. I don't prefer the change.
Every time this comes up the discussion gets bogged down in questions of what is "mainstream" and is "mainstream" really good or bad, and this band that you like could also be called "mainstream." Or people are concerned that this or that bad will bring unpleasant people, and that whole "generalization" argument flares up.
Really it cuts deeper than all of that. I wasn't even there the 1st 2 years, but have been every year since 2004, and I can sense a fundamental change. It's subtle enough from year to year that it's not always that noticeable, but the cumulative effect is there. Again I'm not saying that Roo sucks now or anything like that. It's just a different animal than it once was. I totally understand where doodwheresmyroo is coming from. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has been there most every year and disagrees that the festival's "vibe" has changed, even if you still love the fest. I dunno. I haven't ruled out Bonnaroo yet, and some amazing artist additions could help. But I think I'll focus on AllGood, Ledges, maybe 10KLF this year.
Just my $0.02. Hope everyone who goes has a blast. Maybe I'll see you there. More likely I'll see some of you at other festivals this summer.
OK, I'm definitely a bit skeptical about the lineup. But I think I was destined to be underwhelmed. In the last two years, we've had White Stripes, Wilco, Elvis Costello, Radiohead and Beck, all of whom would probably make my top 10 favorite artists period. Seeing as none of those acts were likely to be back this year, it was pretty much completely impossible that I would be blown away by the lineup. That said, I am PUMPED for Robert Randolph's Revival, whatever that may turn out to be.
Hey, Jude, don't be afraid. You were made to go out and get her. The minute you let her under your skin, Then you begin to make it better.
And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain. Don't carry the world upon your shoulders. Well don't you know that it's a fool who plays it cool By making his world a little colder.
I called a friend today with the lineup and he said "you don't sound excited". I didn't, because I wasn't.
But the more I hear people say that once you get to the farm in June everything is going to be o.k. The more that sounds like Bonnaroo to me, so I'll be there, and I hope everyone that wants it to be a pleasant suprise will too.
I'm starting to come around, but I'm not sold yet.
May I show you my balls or something of the sort to sell you?
???
lol, No ball showing will be necessary kind sir. If you show me a lineup addition that says MMSW with guest DJ Logic late night and thats all the convincing I need. who am I kidding, I already subconsciously know I'm going. This fest just needs a little more late-night spice and I'm go for take off!

Anybody else hoping the Hard Sell tour extends to the farm? Shadow was AMAZING last year. I can't imagine what that Cut Chemist show is like.
