I challenge you to name 10 acts on the lineup that are currently in heavy rotation on MTV.
I'm sorry, I can't...I don't think MTV plays music anymore. :\ I'm not trying to be entirely negative but I suppose I keep getting myself so eager about the lineup announcements that most things will end up being a letdown.
Dude. Chris Rock specials are HBO, not MTV/Comedy Central. Therein lies a massive difference.
I was referring to the festival in general, not just Chris Rock's performance.
PS - Comedy Central also made Carlos Mencia big, which is one of the greatest tragedies that has ever befallen the world of comedy.
PPS - Carlos Mencia also had an HBO special.
All in all this really raises the stakes for the next set of additions IMHO.
Carlos Mencia also had his HBO special taken off the air because a comedian, i wanna say Bill Cosby, was watching it and recognized his own jokes, called HBO and complained so they stopped showing it.
the only thing i don't understand is... the what stage. don't you think he would be more suitable for that tent, or even the which stage?...I mean, I think he's funny and everything, but I don't agree with putting him on the What stage. I bet there are going to be better more suitable acts for the what stage that will now be on the which stage. Shenanigans

chris rock will probably be pretty early in the day on the what stage, could be noon-ish, could be 2-ish, i guarantee you when he's on that stage, at least half that field is full, and the field holds 100,000, it will actually probably be more, he'll be early because there's really no sound setup for him, he just needs a mic, i could definitely see him introducing kanye west or something when he comes out to play, i'm sure chris rock will be on the side of the stage when kanye's playing

I'd say he will do what the dj's did years back and do his show between the co-headliner and headliner possibly on Friday to bring in people for the Metallica show right after him (wont get me to stick around though if that is their plan). Now I could be completely wrong. Also the set will only be an hour and wont require any work to set up so he won't be taking up much time at all. i wouldn't be excited about this if he wasn't on the main stage.

I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to see him perform while they change stage set ups in between bands. Thus not taking away a spot on the main stage that would typically go to a band.

Bonnaroo should throw out the comedy tent and use the comedians on stage between sets, that would be awesome.
I disagreee, once or twice it might work but I think its really unfair to everyone involved. It results in poor traffic flow in and out of the tent, which is bad for maintenance(keeping it clean), it doesn't allow for soundchecks, and it means a ton of people walking out while the comedian is on and vice-versa. The crowd just won't be as warm.

...imagine the door superfly just opened up for the next bonnaroo's, maybe some steve martin, maybe finally dave chappelle?, maybe eddie murphy recreating RAW...how sick would that be
SMH - Steve Martin quit stand-up...for good in 1981.

Sure its not Joe Rogan? Though I didn't know they took it off.

It wasn't Joe Rogan. He called Carlos out on stage one night and video taped it and put it online. But I saw an interview with somebody, I'm 98% sure it was Bill Cosby, where he said that he heard his own jokes and complained. Carlos does Bill's "Dad helps his son with football, son wins superbowl and thanks his mom" bit in his live shows. I think that was the joke that he recognized.
I'm calling Bill Cosby for '09. He is putting out a rap album sometime this year.
im not really excited. I mean it's pretty cool i guess.... maybe i just got the news after the excitement wore down and it doesnt seem that amazing to me.
i dunno. i was hoping for new MUSIC additions before i bought my ticket.
im indifferent about this entire thing, but i know a lot of people will be very happy.
They have had comedians in between those Live Aid type shows. So I doubt this would be close to the largest crowd for a comedian eva. But I like the add a lot. Hope I get a chance to see him tell jokes about the differences between white people and black people.
I've never seen any comedy at Bonnaroo because of the lines at the comedy tent. Although I love standup comedy, I couldn't justify standing in line for an hour when there's so many other things to do. That being said, I'm really glad that they put Chris Rock on the What stage. It'll give me a chance to sit down and rest my legs before latenight.
this is great... this is exactly what some of us were looking for... Comedy on the What Stage(maybe in between acts) so we don't have to wait in that freaking line for the comedy tent!!! i love it!
This is almost as bad as roo having an artist addition with a band already on the initial lineup like last year, weak sauce. wheres the music? I hope next addition the announce metallica

I like Chris Rock, I think it's really cool that he's going to fill some time on the main stage. I like the idea, as I never have the free time to wait in line for the comedy tent; and frankly, I'm much more concerned with hearing music at Bonnaroo. Which is also the reason I don't care for this addition. Chris Rock is not going to sway people one way or another. If you were undecided on the line-up, Chris Rock probably isn't going to push you over the edge. I (like many people) have friends who are really on the fence about going to Bonnaroo this year. This is not helping.
Was hoping for a music addition but this "Rocks"... ::snickers:: I didn't see any comedians last year.... And i really wanted to see all of them.... But that line looked like it sucked balls.... But seriously Chris Rock is awesome... I love that joke from his last special on HBO where he was talking about defending rap music and how its gotten harder over the years.... Fricken Hilarious....
"Smack her with a dick, Smack her with a dick... Put a dick in her ear, dick in her ear"
