and it is Opeth.
New album, they are touring with Dream Theatre (which I found out on none other than Jambase), we have the likes of Mastadon, The Sword, Metallica, Tool, already playing/played roo, and from what the boards are looking like now would be open to someone like NIN, Rage, and others I just think Opeth would be a fabulous show to see live on the farm. This could be my heavy metal roots showing but I think anyone and everyone would be pleasantly surprised by these guys. My favorite albums are Blackwater Park, Ghost Reveries, and Damnation.
I also think that either KMFDM or Ministry will be playing roo also but who knows. What do you guys think?

It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

I think that there are so many metal bands this year because superfly is trying to back up metallica a little bit and I'm not sure that it's the beginning of a long term trend. I'm not against Opeth being there, but I still don't think that metal will be getting more prevalent at roo.

well I think its kind of looking like the start of a trend, one metal band last year. three this year. I think we should expect at least 2 or 3 next year .

I'm feeling that after 2008, the whole Led Zeppelin thing has lost a bit of the magic...
1) With all the build up this year and the ultimate let down, kinda leaves a bad taste 2) If they do play next year, it will probably be part of a super global world tour (ala Police) and I wonder how unique and special 'roo would be then 3) They're gonna be yet another year older...and at this point every year counts. 4) I'm sure other fests are gonna lock them in also, adding to the ridiculous overlapping between fests now. 5) On a side note, with the money 'roo is gonna have to spend on LZ, they could probably lock in 2-3 other major headliners. Most of us will be seeing LZ in our local cities too, so we wouldn't miss out.
Okay, and i'm still bitter over the lez zeppelin thing.
Yeah, I'm right in the same boat, drbrainfreeze. I was really trying not to get my hopes up about them coming to Roo, but it's hard not to when you have the AP and the whole blogosphere saying they will, only to have Superfly crush our hopes and dreams. I'm an optimist though, and while I'm not expecting them to show up, I won't be completely convinced until everyone is leaving on Monday morning. I'm not a die-hard fan like some, and I don't think I'd be willing to fork over the exorbitant price tag their tickets would undoubtedly carry, JUST so I could see them.
EDIT: I completely agree with the two people who mentioned Porcupine Tree. I saw them a year and a half ago on the Fear of a Blank Planet tour with a friend who convinced me to go. I didn't really know any of their stuff before I went, but I was blown away by them.

PTree is t3h JAWSOMEness. I got into them some three years ago and just began eating up every album I could find. I'm telling you non-believers, Porcupine Tree would make for a rocking act once the sun went down!

OPETH would be absolutely amazing. However, I really don't see this happening. They (and Porcupine Tree, my other favorite band) routinely play EUROPEAN summer festivals, which are much more metal-friendly.
