I got my wish answered for the musician I'd most like to see...Robert Randolph!!!! He is bad. I think Jamiroqua(sp?!) would be awesome as well. Has he played any years?
I'm calling the Doves for 09. They should be putting out a new album later this year and hopefully a tour to follow. I'd travel anywhere in the U.S. to see them.
Too bad they pretty much never play outside of California.
They're supposed to finally be doing another US tour this summer/fall. Apparently they are finally in the studio recording their new record. EXCITING! And karma for the dredg at Bonnaroo hopes! A latenight set would blow my mind!

MMJ probably has 3 or 4 more years till they are headlining bonnaroo, I bet they take off the next couple years, and put out at least one more stellar albums and then roo will give them the main stage headlining slot

You get karma for that. The Last Broadcast put them at the top of my list years ago. How I love Doves.

I agree with this slightly... I think that Bonnaroo will be the first festival to push MMJ to the headlining slot, as it is practically their home festival (them being from Louisville), and the one that has put them on the map as the best live band in the US (late nights in '06 and '08 as proof)... I think they take next year off, and then in '10, I could see them coming back and headlining, even without another album... It also depends on the touring they do in between and what venues they fill
Side note: I think Kings of Leon have this potential as well, with headlining Glastonbury this year and having sold out all of the venues on their last tour (also note that MMJ is playing many of the same venues on their upcoming tour)... And Arcade Fire very well could reach this plateau too
I think '09 may be the year we finally see Arcade Fire hit the farm (I hope at least)... I also think we will see some form of Trey around Manchester... And one the smaller end I see Band of Horses, Yeasayer, and Josh Ritter showing up
I can envision Arcade Fire and/or TVOTR there next year.
I would LOVE to see Dredg on the farm! I could see them being one of the highlights of the entire festival.
Other bands that need to play (not just in 09, but at some point) - Sufjan, Flogging Molly, Coheed, Opeth, Isis, Jamiroquai, Explosions In The Sky, Shpongle, Infected Mushroom, Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx (late night, please!), LCD Soundsystem, Ryan Adams (solo, Cardinals, Whiskeytown?!), Black Moth Super Rainbow, Ash (!!), Man Man and Fleet Foxes.
At the risk of being flamed, I'd like to suggest Counting Crows and Barenaked Ladies. While the Crows have been on a steady decline for awhile, if they're on live, they can still bring it (plus they do a swell cover of "Friend Of The Devil"). I take a lot of guff for being a fan, but listen to August And Everything After and you'll understand. As for BNL, still a very, very fun live show (not to mention HORDE vets). I could see both being fantastic daytime tent acts.
Also, MONOTONIX!! Imagine a more in-your-face, garage rock version of Gogol Bordello. Seriously, Montonix kicks major ass. Saw them twice in the past few months and I was grinning the entire time. Go YouTube thier shows - drummer crowd surfing, singer hanging off ceilings and balconies, etc. Just a crazy, crazy live show. Singer even ran up to me and hurled my beer across the crowd...and I loved it. Monotonix - get into it!

I'm feeling that after 2008, the whole Led Zeppelin thing has lost a bit of the magic...
1) With all the build up this year and the ultimate let down, kinda leaves a bad taste 2) If they do play next year, it will probably be part of a super global world tour (ala Police) and I wonder how unique and special 'roo would be then 3) They're gonna be yet another year older...and at this point every year counts. 4) I'm sure other fests are gonna lock them in also, adding to the ridiculous overlapping between fests now. 5) On a side note, with the money 'roo is gonna have to spend on LZ, they could probably lock in 2-3 other major headliners. Most of us will be seeing LZ in our local cities too, so we wouldn't miss out.
Okay, and i'm still bitter over the lez zeppelin thing.
I think most people wanted Led Zeppelin at roo because it's Led Zeppelin, not because it would've been unique to Bonnaroo. I think they could still book the 2-3 other major headliners just for the fact they'd be playing one of the most epic shows in history and on the same bill as Zepp. Also.. they are not the stones. Seeing clips of the O2 show is proof they are still great performers. Plant just won a grammy and it's not because he used to play for Led Zeppelin. We will be extremely lucky to get a show in the U.S. even with a tour.
