Danbird brought this show up in the Now Watching thread and I figured I should start a thread instead of ranting about it there.
I'm completely addicted to this show, and at this point its the only thing on TV that is must watch, appointment viewing. I'm still not completely convinced that the writers know where they are going, but they are keeping me hooked so far.
I got the Season One DVD for Christmas and I'm slowly working through that too. The first five or six episodes of the series are amazingly good, in some ways I don't thing they've reached those heights since. That said, I think last weeks episode was one of the seasons best (along with the Mr. Eko one). I usually spoil this show on the internet (www.televisionwithoutpity.com is a really great TV show site), but they've been keeping the secrets pretty well lately, and last week's ending really caught me offguard. I've been wanting them to show more conflict within the group for a long time so for me it was an "It's about time!" kind of ending.
For the record: Jin and Sun are my faves. I hate Kate. Jack is a d!ck, but also a well acted, interesting character. Charlie got really annoying there for a while; stay evil and start doing heroin Charlie! I was indifferent towards Sawyer, but as I watch this season and rewatch Season One, I like him more and more (especially last week, you show those self-righteous jerks!). Less "I'm really sensitive, masochistic and want people to hate me because I'm a bad boy", more "evil genius you should not mess with" please. Locke is the man, Terry O'Quinn makes this show what it is. The writers can be inconsistent with him though. Mr. Eko is simply the man. Charlie burnt your favorite trees down! Beat him with your Jesus stick!
This is the first post-Buffy/Angel show that I have officially graduated to "appointment viewing" status, but at this point, I don't consider it a truly "great" show yet. So far, its great in an entertaining, edge of your seat, surprise your expections way, but no deeper than that. I try to keep my expectations low and let them try to exceed them. If they actually know what they are doing and actually manage to resolve all of the things they've left dangling and all of the questions they've asked, I might someday consider the show to be truly great, like in an "art" kind of way (like Buffy and Angel are )
So anyone else think that someone is going to join The Others? For in thier midst lies most of the unanswered questions of the show. Like WTF are they doing there? What sort for crazed civilization are they trying to give life to. What is that damn black smoke thing, that shows you wierd sh!t, and judges your worthiness to live or be sucked down a hole? I'm interested in the hatch too, but not as much as The Others. I think they're connected anyway.
I really hope that Charlie becomes Sawyer's deputy. I think those 2 together, will lead to some hilarity. I used to hate Sawyer and now I love him. I used to like Jack and now I hate him. I'm starting to like Kate more, but she'll probably turn on me again. They need more of Mr. Eko, though they're probably saving his stuff for the end of the season. I love Hurley and I hope he gets his rocks off with that chic from Titus. And with Locke, I know there's more to him than meets the eye. He knows more than he says. The writers keep making him look suspicious, and then make him the good guy again. But he's too nice. I think his character is the most interesting, because you don't know what motivates him to do what he does. Yeah....I should try to do something constructive instead of disecting this damned awesome show.
I love Hurley and I hope he gets his rocks off with that chic from Titus.
I do too...even though she's EVIL! "I was definitely on the plane, you stepped on my foot!" Really, then why weren't you in his flashback, and why were you in the back of the plane while Hurley was in the front?
I'm pretty obsessed with this show, but that stuff is too much even for me. There are some pretty interesting theories out there and I can always count on the people on those forums to catch stuff I don't (last week's example: the waitress in the diner with Sawyer was Kate's mom).
Yeah I can only handle one TV message board at a time. And Arrested is still the only one for me. Maybe soon enough I will venture in and look around, but I don't think I'm ready to have my mind blown, or confused, or both.

LOST is amazing.
I started watching this season and just got the first on dvd. I watched disc one in a day and am afraid to start disc two without having 42"x4 to devote to it!
Through my need to see what happens next, I now understand Charlie!
BTW: I'm not an advocate for drug use, but if there was ever an acceptable time to be out of your mind on drugs would it not be when you are stranded on a desert island with little to no hope for rescue? I mean, I loved the part in Pirates of the Carribean when Jack Sparrow gets drunk on rum on the island.
What else can you do?!
Do it up like you're at 'Roo!

The numbers going to zero thing was a total tease/copout. The frog thing was dumb (best part was when he squished it; be eviler Sawyer!). Locke and Sayid should have kicked Jack's ass. Locke letting the timer run down was totally out of character. No Mr. Eko. No Sun. It just seemed to be a lot sloppier in terms of story, character and dialogue than this show usually is. There wasn't nearly enough tension with Sawyer left over from the events that ended last episode (Jin won't find a frog for him? That's the consequences of his manipulation from last week?). Does anyone care/think about who attacked Sun?
On the plus side the possible Others captive is definitely an interesting twist, and I like to see the internal conflict increase between Jack/Locke/Sayid. I also like having Danielle back in the mix. The March 1 episode seems very promising.

i love Sun, i think about who took her many minutes of the day...
I loved seeing the numbers go down and then it came to that final countdown with the symbols....I don't think it was done when Locke stopped it. I bet we see those symbols again in another location.
Lost esoterica from this weeks episode (pointed out by crazy internet people who find strange things in every episode):
-The US army guy who first talked to Sayid and looked at the picture of his daughter was Kate's dad (her not biological dad). That was a picture of Kate circa first Gulf War. I totally missed that myself.
-The red images that appeared on the clock were the word "die" in Egyptian hieroglyphics

I finally just got to watch it. Yeah it's 8:14 in the morning...What's it to you!!! Sorry I get surley in the morning. Yeah, I thought it was a really good episode. Maybe one of the best ones this season. Alot of interesting info. I thought that picture looked like Kate. But it didn't make any sense to me. Yeah, I dunno, I just liked the intense torture scenes with Sayid mixed in with the comic relief of Hurley and Sawyer. mmmm.....dharma ranch dressing. Sawyer definately doesn't have a soul. I hope Kate kicks his @ss one of these days. A frog, I mean, COME ON!!! I was really hoping Sawyer or Hurley were gonna lick it. Lost goes psychedelic.
Good episode, although the more I think about it, the less impressed I am. The tension was definitely ratcheted up high in that hatch. I was a little too spoiled for this one and that probably dulled the episode a bit for me.
Nice to see some questions answered although plenty more are raised. Ethan, Dharma, Goodwin, Gorton's fishermen/Zeke guy: all on the same team. Evil scientists by night, Deliverance hillbillies by day, a formidible nemesis indeed.
Detail that I didn't catch but has already popped up on the internet: The song the creepy airplane mobile in the crib played was "Catch a Falling Star", which was the song that Claire asked the adopting parents to sing to the baby in her Season One episode.
Nice to see that they're willing to do another episode where we don't leave the island, because some of the flashbacks are getting tiresome.
Mr. Eko is such a badass, and I loved seeing him tell Jack what's what, but that was one weird confession/beard trimming at the end.
Man, awesome episode. I think what was inside the Lockerblew me away the most. The beard and Theatrical Glue!! And a clean shaven Mr. Friendly make me wonder too.
Thanks for clearing up the song in the crib, thats just wild. How many people are on this frickin island?!?!

Yes I agree, always good to get a little more insight into what the hell is going on!

Yup, and I liked how this week's "flashbacks" were actually worked into the "present" as Claire's memory...

yeah, what the f was that all about? some sort of african ritual thing?
God I love this show. Best thing that's been on TV ever, as far as I'm concerned
I finally got to watch this episode on Mon. I thought it was really good. I think maybe The Others are Scientologists who are trying to create a perfect race . The big question I have is where do they come from? There is obviously ways for them to come and go off the island, and their plan seems to be growing in scope. Like some sort of strange diabolical scheme for world domonation by creating a secret race of clone babies. I really think that Walt is one of these, since he seems to have the shinin'. I dunno, it's fun to throw theories out there though.
So yeah, Sun, your are LYYYYYYYYYYYIIIING!!!!!!! lol
I love new losts, no matter how fast or slow it is, no matter if there is mystery solving stuff, or mystery building stuff going on. This is one great show.

I've just become addicted to Lost. I've watched the first 12 episodes of Season One, and I haven't seen any of Season Two yet. It's brilliant and I can't get enough. So...theories about what's going on, anyone?
soo soo many, you have sooooo much .. .. keep watching!!!
BTW, if you are gonna wait for S2 to come out, just DL the Torrents, cause it probably wont be till september. Torrents are usually Digital quality, or buy them off itunes for 2 bucks, but they have crappy quality
This kind of seemed like a filler episode to me, even though Sun and Jin are my favorites (and quite possibly the most beautiful couple on the face of the earth).
More Mr. Eko please.
Evil Charlie seems a bit forced to me.
Somebody needs to call balloon guy on his blatant, excessive creepiness.
The last episode just goes to support my theory of The Others starting a super human race of clone-babies. ??? Another immaculate conception? I don't think Sun is lying, cause it's more interesting if she's not, cause then how in the world did she get pregnant? Another Lost miracle. I want to know WTF they're doing to get this so-called army together. They finally mentioned it again in this one, but nothing more. I guess Jack's too occupied with this Other guy. I'm really starting to hate Jack. He's all "What, I'm in charge. How dare you without asking me." I hope there's a mutiny against him, with Loch leading the way. My friend put out an interesting theory, the other night. He said that everyone on the island is on some sort of f*cked up reality TV show, and that the others are just a part of it the production and everything. I don't think that's true, but I thought it'd be funny if they were.
Pretty great episode tonight. More Mr. Eko please?
Screen cap of the creepy blacklight map on the back of the blast door, obviously hand drawn (by someone who was stuck behind that door for a long time?):
Yes, it was a very interesting episode. Again raising more questions than it answered. Thanks for the screen cap, Ka Mai. I thought I was going to have to DL it so that I could get a good look at it. So it looks like there are 6 "hatches." All leading to a huge question mark. It looks like each hatch is marked with one of those hieroglyphics symbols that come up when the countdown thing gets to zero. I wish I could make out all those notes that are written on it. The whole airdrop was interesting as well. The island is definately an ellaborate experiment, but of what kind? What is this Dharma? We should get some answers next week, when they interogate the lying douche. Go crazy Sayid. And poor Locke. He just tries to do what's right, and gets screwed every time. I thought they'd show how he got paralyzed and the big scar on his face. I'd guess those 2 guys come after him for the money or something. Why can't Lost be on every day like 24 and American Idol?
