DUDE SAID ......it was needed back in the day to keep the populated east from controlling laws nationwide. but we dont need it anymore. ..ohh you just so smart we don't need it anymore it's outdated WTF
If the electoral college wasn't in place politicains would only go to big cities and say screw the rest b/c if it was that way the country's president would be elected by people in chicago, L.A. and newyork .....the electoral college makes alomost every state important......
Yeah dude the only reason Bush won in 2000 was b/c of his brother whatever than why did Bush win Florida very very easily in 2004?

new york chicago and la have about 30 million people. there are 300 million in the us.

you have no intellect. you have not said one educated thing. and you are the one that started insulting others and telling them to go read books (something you obviously dont do yourself because your completely misinformed/uninformed) and saying people were smiling about 9/11. and that power to the peaceful wont work becasue the peaceful are all dead in shallow graves in iraq.(whatever the hell that means) and that its ok to kill 50,000 civilians if its for a good location. your the one who took it to that level . what are we supposed to do when you come in slanging staight up nonsense and say things like that? we have to tell you that yor a moron in hopes that you will educate yourself and quit linking travel sites in what used to be a serious discussion.

i dont know man a see alot more small towns and cities on there then i do mega cities. i wonder if they know something you dont? and with tv and the internet campaigns are broadcast globaly. every little fart is broadcasted around the world. so to say that they would focus on population centers and win that way is wrong. in fact that would cost them elections.
and as far as the electoral system and our founding fathers being outdated. thats laughable. it was written over 200 years ago. do you think that they imagined what the future would be like and then made the electoral college. im sure they werent thinking about television and the internet when they instituted something to stop population centers from electing locals for everyone. there is no local anymore. there is no campiagning to the largest cities and not the rural areas. they campign to everyone. itss all there to see on tv and the internet. so yes. it is completley outdated. as though that even justified an answer. but on the bright side that was a real close swing and amiss on that fort dodge, iowa call. but im afraid the correct answer is mason city, iowa.

chicago. this is at heart a bonnaroo forum. we do discuss other things. you have 17 post here. 16 of them are in this thread spouting nonsense and flaming for no reason. grow up.
and your only other post was to suggest that they build an actual movie theater at roo. i think maybe your just in the wrong place. maybe you got dizzy, wandered off, and ended up here. i dont know.
also if you click on the "quote" button on the top of someones post it will put it into a quote window. its easier to read that way. just edit out the parts you dont need and be sure not to mess with the extra quote stuff it puts in. and then put your comments after the final
thing . or do us a favor and dont include your thoughts. if you can call them that.

The real funny thing is Clinton bombs the living hell out of the Balkins and MANY MANY MANY inncocnet civialians died...Clinton went to somalia to remove a dictator and guess what many many many civilians died.....DUDE this is not a vidoe game in war civilians die.....I never heard anybody say clinton was evil for doing this...why not?????? Clinton was so busy getting head (which I have no problem with) that he failed to do anything to help protect us.....example is (kenya bombings, worldtrade center the 1st attack, the uss cole bombings) he did nothing and yet I'm sure he is the golden boy in your eyes.
nato (made up of more then just americans) inflicted around 1500 civilian casualties in the kosovo conflict. and in somalia there were between 1000 - 1500 somali milita men and civilians were killed in the whole thing. so the civilian casualties were in the hundereds. i guess that should be considered "MANY MANY MANY" but it pales in comparison to the 50 some thousand innocent civilians killed in iraq. but lets not forget that it was to stop Slobodan Milošević from continuing ethnic cleansing which had murdered thousands of people and drove over a million from their homes and into refugee camps. and i dont see how any of that should be called "the real funny thing"
and i didnt like his foreign policies. he too exaggerated the atrocities in the balkans. they claimed 100,000 and up to 500,000 killed in the genocide when the actual number are much less. and he should have responded to us being attacked. we had a chance to get bin laden long before 9/11. people on the ground watching him hunt ready to get him and direct air strikes. but we didnt go through with it becasue a plane was there registered to a prince in the united arab emirates and he didnt want to chance killing an arab prince. thats crazy. its an arab prince associating with some one that has repeatedly attacked us. if he gets caught in crossfire oh well. so no he is not my golden boy. i dont care for any of our politicians. not a single one of them makes any sense. but i think clinton is much more intelligent, likeable and was a much better president then bush and history will remember him as such. i think your president himself said it best
"It's amazing I won. I was running against peace, prosperity, and incumbency." —George W. Bush, June 14, 2001, speaking to Swedish Prime Minister Goran Perrson, unaware that a live television camera was still rolling.

Chicago why do you keep saying that I have called Bush and the US evil and I am a this and that? I havent made any longwinded rambling posts. Yet you do not respond to me at all. You just group me with others and put words in my mouth that I have already taken the time to point out I never said.
Thats just lame.
Please posts facts not opinion and respond to things I ask or we cannot continue this.
So back to you supporting this war and the president. Why are you not signed up?
but seriously ive enjoyed killing time at work with this. but i will back off the insults and just let him have his opinions and then point out the facts with out insults. no need to lock it up.
I vote we ignore this jake. He gets a boner over just seeing that someone responds to him passionately. It's obvious, that even in his own circles, people must see him as a mouthpiece buffoon. Funny that he must feel like he is "in the club" to keep spouting such babble. And to do it so superiorly. Yeah, Dude was serveing fries while he laughed about 9/11. Every person posting on this thread had something intelligent to debate until chicagorooer came along. And that's not just because he spouted an opposing viewpoint. There was healthy debate until Rumsy Jr. stumbled in. Back to church, Jr. Then it's off to little hitler camp. Funny how the real nazi's spend their time glorifying world war 2 and think that it is camoflauge.
Artist: Michael Franti And Spearhead Album: Everyone Deserves Music Year: 2003 Title: Bomb The World (Armageddon Version)
I don't understand the reason why You tellin' us all that we need to unify Rally round the flag And beat the drums of war Sing the same old songs Ya know we heard 'em all before
You tellin' me it's unpatriotic But I call it what I see it When I see it's idiotic The tears of one mother Are the same as any other Drop food on the kids While you're murderin' their fathers But don't bother to show it on CNN Brothers and sisters don't believe them It's not a war against evil It's really just revenge Engaged by the poorest by the same rich men Fight terrorists wherever they be found But why you not bombing Tim McVeigh's hometown? You can say what you want propaganda television But all bombing is terrorism
(chorus) We can chase down all our enemies Bring them to their knees We can bomb the world to pieces But we can't bomb it into peace Whoa we may even find a solution To hunger and disease We can bomb the world to pieces But we can't bomb it into peace
911 Fire in the skies Many people died And no one even really knows why They tellin' lies of division and fear We yelled and cried No one listened for years But like, "who put us here?" And who's responsible? Well, there's no debatin' Cause if they ask me I say It's big corporations World trade organisation Tri-lateral action International sanctions, Satan Seems like it'll be an endless price tag Of wars tremendous And most disturbingly The death toll is so horrendous So I send this to those Who say they defend us Send us into harm's way We should all make a remembrance that This is bigger than terrorism Blood is blood is blood and um Love is true vision Who will listen? How many songs it takes for you to see You can bomb the world to pieces You can't bomb it into peace
(chorus) Power to the peaceful And I say, love to the people y'all Power to the peaceful And I say, love to the people y'all
(FOR CHICAGOROOER--- the chorus means that for all the billions we spend on arms to destroy our 'enemies', we are creating a new generation of "terrorists" because of our vanity and greed. I guess that is why Bush and Company are behind it. Endless profiteering. Like I formerly stated, it used to be considered highly unethical to profit from the war on the backs of taxpayers. Now they are profiting on the backs of the unborn via a deficit heretofore unfathomable. So much for small government.
While we are mixing our music with our politics, let me take time to recommend one of my all time favoites. Roger Waters' "Amused To Death" came out in the shadow of Bush War I. It is a timeless/universal masterpiece which only grows in importance as time goes on. Definately one of ten I'd take to the moon when I go. From "The Bravery of Being Out of Range"...... "Just love those laser-guided bombs. They're really great, for righting wrongs. You hit the target, and win the game... FROM BARS 3,000 MILES Away--you play the game with the bravery of being out of range".
That refers to the brass and the cheerleaders who are all gung ho like you chicagorooer, the people who want to make parking lots out of everything they don't understand. Yet they risk NOTHING. Go sign up pal, the US Army has a ton of openings for cavepeekers and frontliners. You talk like a hero, time to walk the walk.
I'll be the one campaigning for you to have the best possible artificial limbs upon your return if you make it. Or so that they don't deny you treatment for Gulf War Syndrome. Or so that they quit closing VA hospitals. Or to provide counseling to your mother when you commit suicide. Because I'm unpatriotic..
War is ugly, but puffy chested blowhards are uglier.
shoosh, don't get personal! That is only doing what you are fussing about him doing.
I couldn't agree with you more on Amused to Death, that is a GREAT album and very relevent!
On the spearhead thing, my wife and I are going to see them in ATL in March. I can't wait!!
I missed them at roo in 03 (i think it was 03) and I think that was their only appearance at the roo to this point. I wouldn't be surprised to see them amke an appearance this year in support of the new album Yell Fire.
Speaking of which, has anyone picked up Yell Fire?? how is it??
I love that line though, "You can bomb the world to pieces, but you can't bomb the world to peace!" That is great!
I don't mind it getting personal. I go rounds with these type of characters as part my responsibility in everyday life. Every soul counts. And it's not like you'll catch more of these flies with honey. It is my hope that embarassing someone like chicagorooer in a forum like this would motivate 'em to bone up a little, whether it leads them to reinforce their own argument in a bonafied way, or come over to the side of promoting peace in another venue. I try to be hopeful and stand in the face of adversity. But I will curb myself for the sake of the forum. Feels a little like censorship given the nature of the thread title, though. I mean noone is hurling threats, and I haven't even brought up his mother yet!
You are gonna have a spiritual experience at the Spearhead show DMBfan. I've seen them several times and it NEVER disappoints. Be open and prepared to dance. Franti is a wizard at rechanneling the energy the audience reflects. Every time, I leave physically drained and mentally energized. I hope you and your wife like to shimmy and quake a little on the dance floor. I'd say get up in the pit if you can. Have seen them in small 200 people club scenes as well as the mass groove they can bring to the festie scene.
Oh-and Yell Fire! is solid in my opinion, but somewhat recycled, as some of the tunes have been in the live rotation for awhile. Possibly I am just jonesing for some solid brand new material, as "Songs From the Front Porch" was an acoustic greatest hitsy sorta vibe.
The live is where it's at with them for sure, though. Spiritual I tells ya.
It is my hope that embarassing someone like chicagorooer in a forum like this would motivate 'em to bone up a little,
But I will curb myself for the sake of the forum.
Feels a little like censorship given the nature of the thread title, though.
Its not a question of whether you mind it getting personal! I am simply trying to keep the vibe positive.
I appreciate you curbing yourself, really for the sake of the community overall!
Please don't look at it a censorship. I believe in free speech as much as the next guy, but we have a responsibility to the others on these forums to keep it civil.
If you guys want to bash each other do it over PM.
We have had two mods step into this thread and politely ask for you guys to simmer (which you have, thank you for that!) I would imagine that the third time will be when the lock comes out.
Oh, we certainly enjoy the groovin! I think I will try to pick up Yell fire! Like you, I really enjoyed "Front Porch".
Violets are violet, Roses are red. Mods want niceties, So this thread's dead.
Political correctness teaches people how to hide their feeings. Now everybody be nice to chicagorooer. It is OK to hate brown people and love money. Noone better be mean to haters round here... shoosh yer moosh

dmbfanintn....you are correct even though we may disaggree there no reason to insult others......I will as u say simadown........ .......My point has been made so no need to keep going around and around.........jason u are correct u never did say eveil I was confusing som eof your arguments w/ shoosh and dude ...it's hard to keep things together sometimes when you have 3 people coming at u.....U can lik emy opinions or not but at least I have expressed my views....The main reason I chimed to begin with is b/c this thread was lacking with deverse opinions.....Most of the posted slammed bush and the US ....
This thread in many ways is simliar to the media such as cbs, nbc and most print media...very one sided.........Than of course when a differnt point of view comes in I am labeled and told in many different ways I have no idea what I am talking about......surprised I wasn't called a bigot or that my first kid will have 3 heads.......It just looks as though some people can't stand a different point of view and instead of listening and trying to understand they begin with the name calling........it's all good though.....
Post by chicagorooer on Jan 15, 2007 12:27:01 GMT -5
Michael franti...while his music is pretty good I don't care one bit for hi spolitics just like I don't care one bit what tom cruise or any other celebrity has to say either.......I saw spearhead at the big summer classic in chicago in 2005 and he was running around on stage with the american flag upside down.......this means "distress"......way to many man and women have fought and died for this country for this man to be doing that........Man if he hates the US so much he sure makes a lot of $$$ on the american people.........I think they are very talented just wish he kept his politics out of his shows.....i go to see shows to be entertained and to disconnect for awhile...that is why i love the rooo so much for 4 days we don't have to be w/ politics and crap like that just kick back and enjoy the vibe and tunes...........
1. when a differnt point of view comes in I am labeled and told in many different ways I have no idea what I am talking about.....
2.The fact remains the U.N. had passed many resolutions demanding Iraq to comply with the cease fire or face santions/military action.
3.As far as the geneva conventions I am just saying they are outdated b/c when the rules were written people didn't hide among innocent people and blow themselves up and then claim there are citizens then when caught want full rights that a uniformed army would have.
4..see it's thinking like this that gets your but killed. They hate us, they hate freedom...they blew up the pentagon and the trade centers (I bet you had a smile that day)) i know when I saw the towers fall the 1st thing I said is we should have fed them....how about they feed themselves instead of spending millions on weapons to kill us
5.The real funny thing is Clinton bombs the living hell out of the Balkins and MANY MANY MANY inncocnet civialians died...Clinton went to somalia to remove a dictator and guess what many many many civilians died.
6.ARE you kidding me the man were off to war... I don't even know what to say to that. So we should have been nicer huh??? maybe we should have fed them more.........yes civilians are dead not our fault...
7.Hey if your so peaceful and loving go to Iraq help out ......so get off your soapbox and go to iraq maybe if your real nice they won't feed you to a woodchipper Power to the informed and those that have the balls to take action in the face of propaganda and political rhetoric......
8.hey people hated the Jews, The us hated the blacks.......yes there are people in this world who just hate!! Freedom .......Iran doesn't want iraq to be democratic b/c they will lose power......just like the soviets they plotted against us everyday b/c they hated freedom......The nazi's hated freedom.....the chinese gov't hates freedom.......we are just lucky we are free......There are way to many instances where people didn't want freedom and did all they could to stop it .......ohh the revolutionary war.....get a clue jason...... sorry I don;t know michael savage I only know fred savage
9.I will never stand by and let a couple of people who are obviously isolationsist (too bad b/c it's a global world pal)
10.the most a president can be around is 8 years so feel free to vote him out......I guess you must have been in the minority twice b/c he was elected then re-elected I guess most of the US population who voted are reallly stupid and your the smart one
11.Distance from florida (sorry not miami but close enough) to cuba is
12.Oh bet bet u don't have a job b/c bush screwed up the economy as well..
1. it has nothing to do with differing points of view. it has to do with saying things that just arent correct and then telling others to leran to read and then go read a book.
2.there was no cease fire. iraqs un resoloutions were about weapons inspections. please show me your "facts and research" about the cease fire which iraq was violating that justified our attack.
3.oh so the geneva convention is outdated. and you know whats right more then they do? thats the argument you used on me for saying the electoral college was outdated. hmm 200 years old. vs. 50 years old. acts of terror and guerilla warfare have been going on for centuries. it was around in 1949. it was no secret of the future. but t.v., the internet, and air travel were secrets of the future 200 years ago. and they make the electoral college outdated.
4. so its thinking "lets feed and educate starving children" thats gonna get my butt killed?? well i will keep saying that. and we will see if it kills me before someone pissed of about bushs war kills me. the hating freedom thing is not even worth commenting on more then i already have. complete propaganda rooted nowhere in reality. and if these people had spent millions on weapons and armies we wouldnt mess with them. like we dont with pakistan. they dont have this stuff your talking about so they straps bombs to themselves and fly planes into buildings. do you think they would do that if they had armies and missles?
5.we have already been over this one.
6. yes the men were off at war. its a war. and japan was losing. every man of fighting age was off at war. women, children and the elderly were the ones left in the cities. and to say civilians died but its not our fault is insane. we bombed and nuked their cities with no intention other then destroying the city and burning hundereds of thousands alive. its a fact.
7. while i dont agree with any of the other nonsense in that quote i do agree with power to the informed. information is key. aslong as its factual and not just propaganda. please make yourself powerful. inform yourself
8. ive already covered this one. iran greatly benefited from this war. not hurt them. thats factual. and you never did answer why its ok for us to do billions of dollars worth of trade with those freedom hating chinese. or the freedom hating russians. and what about those freedom hating saudis we get all our oil from that are having dinner and holding hands with bush on walks at the bush ranch? lets not forget it was saudis that flew into our buildings. not iraqis.
9. well the united states has never been so isolated fromt the rest of the world. and we had the whole world behind us after 9/11. but bush squandered it on this war of his. even our allies no longer like us. there is no quicker way to isolation then bombing countries that are innocent of all that your accusing them of, against the will of the rest of the world who believe diplomacy is the way to go. we are much more isolated today then we were in 1999. even with an event that got everyone on our side in 2001.
10. well we already went over how bush was in the minority and gore had more votes.
11. hey man id love to chat about this. meet me at hooters in florida. if im not there just wait. ill show up.
12. since bush has been president we have losts millions of jobs. almost 3 million.
im not trying to further any flaming. just want to point out that it wasnt differing points of view that got us going it was saying things that are just flat out wrong. and then telling us to go read books when we corrected you. we asked you many questions about explaining your position and you wont. you just say that we smile at 9/11 and are stupid or uninformed. so please, show me the facts and research to back up anything you have said. if you come in saying things that are wrong and challenging everyones intelligence for telling you your wrong then you should expect to be treated rudely. at least if you go and look at the facts to back yourself up you might learn a few things. and if your right then by all means prove me wrong.

michael franti should keep politics out of his show????lol... what would his show be? id say instead of franti changing his show you should not go. the guy is nothing but positive and peaceful(as is bonnaroo). dosent seem to me like anything youd be interested in. using your voice for political change is what this country is all about. not using bombs for political change.

new york chicago and la have about 30 million people. there are 300 million in the us.
the electoral college makes it so the politicains have to focus on all states......b/c if it was straight population vote people in new mexico and rhode island and other states would basically have no say at all none..........
what?
there votes DON'T matter now. if it was straight popular vote, they WOULD matter MORE. RI has 4 electoral votes. thats a hell of a lot less than california or NY. california has 55. rhode islands population is 1,076,189. california's is 37,172,015.
one person, one vote is how it should be. not, "if you live in a big state your vote matters, but if you live in rhode island don't worry about voting because its not really going to tip the scales"
a million votes towards gore would have counted a lot more than the 4.
