All of the above are quotes from chicagorooer. Yes, there were other flames aimed at him. But I hope that the mods will note that the debate was civil and intelligent until his participation began. And I stress that it was not from his opposing viewpoint in my opinion. Dudezer and I were at it quite civilly. Though neither he nor I had budged on our take, there was discourse that allowed us each to either strengthen our own beliefs or perhaps , question them.
I am all for freeflow conversations and would not ask any of this to be locked or removed. I believe it comes with the territory when political discussions arise.
If there is not to be open debate irregardless of petit jabs that a reader is free to ascribe to or overlook, then I would urge the powers that be to trace the argument back to the point where it got "out of hand" in your opinions, and use the personal warning system already in place to curb the inciter(s) of said rioting.
Someone hurling such personal attacks and who has an opposing viewpoint would never be tolerated under a thread entitled "I love Bonnaroo". The nature of a thread entitled "wars for oil suck" is gonna be heated. It might even get childish. I think folks can either 1)join in 2)bail out and read a more appealing thread, or 3) start their own thread entitled "Wars for OIL are totally righteous-or whatever.
Somehow, I think MLK Jr. would have been for the attempt to get to the bottom of things like this rather than locking them in a closet like political correctness tends to do. There is healthy debate. And there is rhetoric. Only a truly open forum can allow the masses to discern between the two. or decide to skip it all and go back to speculating on Roo 07

My point is and always is the US is not evil, it's not our fault (radical) people teach hate in mosques, Bush inherited a VERY VERY bad situation and has had success and failure which is to be expected. Whether you beleive we should be in Iraq or not is you opinion but to say it's all about OIL an profits and the president is Evil and the Us is evil in just plain wrong.
Young people are blowing themselves in the name of a holy war. This is very similiar to the Nazi's who taught hate and opression during wwII ....they are determined and have capabilities which we have never seen before. This is a huge problem!! we can't let groups like this train and plan and organize against us. This is a real issue and a very complicated one. Basically military personel are being trained in the name of religion. Theydon't wear military uniforms and look like everyday citizens. However they are well trained and well funded and have a belief they will die for.
I don't see where Oil profits come in here! these teachings of hate and to call for a Jihad against the west just didn't start within the last 8 years. So yes Wars do suck but saying this war is just for oil ignores the big issue which I stated above....

and you keep comparing this to ww2. that comparioson is flawed in almost every possible way. the conflicts are completely different and unrelated. and as for teaching oppression and hate lets not forget the hate and oppresion involved with our forced internment of 120,000 japanese here in america. 80,000 of which were american citizens.
show me facts about this cease fire iraq violated. i cant find any show me facts that our firebombing of cities in ww2 didnt kill women and children show me the facts of how all the men were in the city instead of being off at war. show me numbers that justify comparing civilian casualties in the balkans and somalia to 50 thousand plus in iraq or hundereds of thousands in ww2 show me that more people voted for bush then for gore.
i have disproved everything you have said and you make no effort to prove anything. you just ramble on with the same wrong info. when you come in telling people to read books and whatnot right off the bat because they point out that what your saying is incorrect then you cant expect to be treated nicely. especially when you wont present any facts or answer any of our requests to back up anything you have said with anything more then "its my opinion, go read a book". well unless you wrote a book none of what you have said is in any book anywhere.

and i dont see what your problem is with the geneva convention. bush dosent let it apply to his war anyways. whats has it stiopped us from doing? it dosent stop us from going into a mousqe after combatants. bush and rumsfeld and the iraqi government that they installed are the ones making those calls. our commanders want to go in but the bush administration wont let them because it will look bad on the news. it has nothing to do with the geneva convention. it hasnt stopped him form holding people captive in cuba with out presenting any charges or having any trials or even telling their families where they are. it hasnt stopped us from abusing prisoners in abu ghraib. so please lay out the issues that you have with the geneva convention and how it applies to the current wars we are fighting. that is a direct request. its how debates work. you just cant keep saying the same incorrect things. make your case. im dying to hear it.
or show me where im wrong. why dont you believe me? everything i have said is verifiable in those books your always recommending. how about cracking one and telling what it is you dont beleive that i have said.

after the 1st gulf war Iraq aggreed to the terms of a cease fire. The UN was in charge of monitoring this situatuion. This is when inspectors had to be allowed in and Iraq was giving a certain list of protocals.....this is why the Un had the power to impose sanctions and pass resolutions against Iraq. ......so if it is a fact that Iraq was living up to it's obligations that it aggreed to then why did the body in charge of monitiring Iraq pass sanctions and resolutions against them for not complying????....so your facts seem real shaky unless u know more abouth the situation on the ground then the international body (UN).
those arent facts.. your making it up again. iraq had to disarm. that was what the resloloutions and inspections were about. and if there had been a cease fire iraq hadnt violated it. we fired first. thats why its called preemptive war.

It has been determined later that the UN was corrupt and was passing resolutions they knew where justified but were never going to take action b/c of (read oil for food scandal) ..the US took action based on the final resolution and we should be proud our president took action that was passed but was a paper tiger b/c the Un had it;s owe interst in mind and not the security of the world at large

read the resolutions read why there are sanctions.....I didn't pass them neither did bush but the UN passed the resolutions and voted for sanctions.........Iraq wa snot in compliance and if they were talk to the UN and ask them why they would pass a resolution and sanction Iraq if they were playing nice

If you guys can discuss the issues, then there's no problem. The problem is that this has turned into less of a discussion and more of bickering and bantering back and forth. Just make your point or points, and leave it be. If someone says something that seems stupid or infantile, then let them look stupid on their own. 27 posts on this board....I have been following this site for years(not posting) and have been a member of the vegoose board for a while now.....however my posts are only troublesome if u don't want another point of view.....I like other ideas an views and find them useful and good to get all opinions on the table.....sorry u don;t feel this way.......been down with the r000 since '03......believe me dude many can find your posts annoying and irratating as well........
